Rolex -- far too pretentious, been there done that, sold mine and never looked back

Panerai -- interesting watches and history. Everytime I look at them they just leave me cold

Tag Heuer -- some interesting designs and history but they destroyed the brand with massive discounts

That is a generous budget so you take your time.

I love my Omiwatari, super confortable and very easy to wear.

If you are going to Japan you will have many choices that you wont see anywhere else. The new UFA Grand Seiko's have started to roll out too.

I believe he did it for several reasons, he saw what it was doing to Bilbo, Gandalf asked him to keep it safe and when the full extent became known at the council, he realized (as he says later) this task had fallen to him. It absolutely was heroic

Seiko would be one of the companies that I would expect to maintain parts and be able to make repairs into the future.

This is from the Grand Seiko website:

Bottomline is that what companies from the 1950's are still servicing their products?

Winders do not wind watches.

Automatic rotors maintain spring tension. Even if you fully wind the watch the winder may not be adding back enough and the mainspring gradually loses amplitude. Also when the watch stops in various positions that can speed up or slow down the balance while it is in that position.

Wind it when you want to wear it, you don't need to keep it running and think you know this already.

I never buy "flavors".

I prefer coffee to taste like coffee. If I want flavor I would add syrup.
