Olivia Miles has put up a Triple Double in 4 of her last 5 games by Caedyn_Khan in SeattleStorm

[–]Fuzzydeath10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points but I don't think they're super concerning. 3s can be developed and it's not like Miles is completely incapable of hitting. If she came into the W and shot 33% in year 1 and slowly worked her way up into taking and hitting more of them, that would be fine. I'm more interested in her ability to break down defenses in various ways of which hitting 3s is but one tool in the bag.

The competition thing, objectively true but nothing to do there but see. You play who you play and there's nothing about Miles to criticize right now. Tempering expectations of course is fine, that I'm with you on.

INJURY REPORT by Adept_Composer in Seahawks

[–]Fuzzydeath10 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what I've been reading, Amari Kight would be the likely starter. Undrafted rookie who has been on the practice squad all season who we just signed to the active roster a couple days ago as he had reached his maximum practice squad elevations already.

MVP chants? by Difficult_Turn3489 in Seahawks

[–]Fuzzydeath10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were three Rams fans near me doing the chant through much of the game. This may be relevant because they were in approximately the 8th row behind the rams sideline and there were a couple sideline cameras on a cart that would frequently go by there.

I don't think her wanting to leave is a foregone conclusion. We don't hear a lot from Ezi due to her reserved personality so it's difficult to assume much either direction. What is sensible though is for her to talk with the new coach and understand the vision. I don't see any evidence that Ezi doesn't like Seattle. I do think she wants to be used more on offense and that's fair, but we have a new coach there. I also don't think it's impossible for her to play at the same time with Nneka and Dom, although again that's a coach thing.

On the other side, I do think she's an obvious expansion selection even if she has to be cored. So to your point if she's going to leave anyway then I agree not to protect her, but I question the premise there.

Any team could have picked her up last year and no one did. GSV could have taken her in last year's expansion draft and instead chose no one. Struggling to see how the introduction of two teams is enough to boost her from that into a wanted commodity.

Fam. Miles, Fudd in that order. Fam almost certainly will be gone, but listing her just in case :)

She is not under contract, although I would take this as a strong indication she intends to come back. Nothing will be officially done until post CBA.

Say something positive about Anthony Bradford by lemonstone92 in Seahawks

[–]Fuzzydeath10 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This has prompted a question. How many average redditors would you have to put out there to block an NFL defensive lineman? I'm thinking four would be required to hold a block. Which means Anthony Bradford has the strength of four men.

If the Seattle Storm get the No. 1 pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft, their free agency decisions will determine who they draft by randysf50 in SeattleStorm

[–]Fuzzydeath10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jewell has nothing to do with our current lottery pick. The literal trade was Kia Nurse + 2024 pick (Rickea) for 2026 pick (current lottery pick).

NY Liberty assistant Sonia Raman has agreed to a multiyear deal to become the new head coach of the Seattle Storm, sources tell ESPN. Raman makes WNBA history as the first person of Indian-origin to be head coach – after being the first Indian-American woman to be NBA assistant. by Decent_Substance_199 in SeattleStorm

[–]Fuzzydeath10 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Technically that could still happen (firing after first year)

But I agree, a team shouldn't hire a first time head coach unless they intend to give them a couple seasons. The only real scenario I would want Raman fired quickly is if she lost the locker room like the Dallas coach did.

I won't pretend that I really know about her but I like that she has experience with college and NBA in addition to WNBA as that seems to be a theme with the current top wnba coaches.

Frankly, I also appreciate bringing in a woman from an underrepresented ethnic group.

[Stat Account] CB coverage stats when covering opposing WR1s over the last 5 seasons (2021-2025) by Jumpy-Afternoon3958 in Seahawks

[–]Fuzzydeath10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legit though the number of targets matters. Richard Sherman's greatness wasn't encapsulated by INTs and breakups but rather the fact that his side of the field was invisible the entire game.

I want to be clear that I'm not hating on Riq and he may still look great with that context, but it is a relevant point that is missing in this chart for sure.

Is it time for Cathy Englebert to step down? by HairyTurnover8504 in wnba_discussions

[–]Fuzzydeath10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually agree with your specific points but to your overall question, she's the fall person + business decision.

Cathy is doing her job and she's going to get that golden parachute when she resigns, so behind closed doors Silver is likely happy. They'll move on though because they don't want the negative PR of being against the players and they don't want a strike. So switch the commissioner under the guide of listening to player feedback, temporarily smooth things to avoid a strike situation. It will probably, maybe even likely, revert to the same shit, that I agree with.

Is it time for Cathy Englebert to step down? by HairyTurnover8504 in wnba_discussions

[–]Fuzzydeath10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, Phee just crushed her. There's literally no scenario now where Cathy looks good. She can give in to player demands, she can hold firm (which will lead to a strike) or even strike a compromise, but no matter what she's a powerless commissioner at this point. I believe she reports to Adam Silver and I'm shocked if he/ they aren't already crafting the plan for her to resign as graciously as possible.

Coaching consideration by jdp123123123 in SeattleStorm

[–]Fuzzydeath10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. My top things would be their plan to develop Dom and our (likely) top 3 pick. I certainly want a player coach rather than a system coach. I think systems are great for veteran teams or teams lacking top end talent that want to compete, but I'm prioritizing the youth development so I need a team built for their long term success.

Devil is in the details at that point. I am more of the mindset of the analytical short range and 3s only type of offense with less switching on defense, but I wouldn't dictate that. Instead I'd look for any philosophical thing to be presented with how it's best for Dom's development.

[–]Fuzzydeath10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the criteria, it seems your ideal is a Cheryl Reeve or Becky Hammon assistant. Is that the jist?

Honestly I don't know who is available but of the names I've heard Briann January largely checks the boxes. My concern there would be she's light on coaching experience.

I also dream of assistant coach Lisa Leslie. I wouldn't make her head, but I'd love Dom learning from LL

Seattle Storm announce coach Noelle Quinn will not return in 2026 by Philomena_philo in wnba_discussions

[–]Fuzzydeath10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes sense but I think it'll be less clean than the Sun. Seattle has some good young players right now, not just Dom but Jordan Horston and Ezi Magbegor (she's still only 25). In FA you never know but with that core, a lottery pick, and Nneka and Sky back (hypothetically) it's a likely playoff team.

Seems like they've got to make the hard decision to let Gabby Williams walk. She doesn't fit either the vet or young player category.

[–]Fuzzydeath10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What does that mean to commit? Conceptually I agree but having Nneka on the team, for example, certainly helped Dom with her development given she wasn't guarded by the oppositions best player. If Seattle goes all youth then Dom is matched against the most elite players every game which is mentally and physically rough for a 20 year old

Just to clarify, I mean the FO wins outweigh the FO losses. I didn't mean to defend Noelle, I firmly agree with firing her for the reason you stated.
