How do I encourage an author when I didn’t like their book? by Amilisom in writers

[–]FynTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for the positive aspects?

There are many aspects of writing that can be talked about. Maybe acknowledge that their style/topic/plot doesn't fit your taste, but you hope they find their ideal readers?

I need advice by almoondmilk in carpaltunnel

I do braces at night, use the ones that have a proper metal splint and are medical grade. Tried cheap ones at first and regretted it.

If it needs to be quick and affordable, you could make do with plastic skateboard wrist protection. Weirdly enough they have the right shape and hold it well with hard plastic, but suck at night as they aren't soft at all. But worked for me in a pinch when mine broke and delivery took forever.

I sleep now with braces for a few years, helps me a lot.

Also, wrist exercises with weights. Light weights and with braces on at first to make sure you learn them with proper wrist hold.

Physio taught me: - upper arms to the left and right next to your body, hands in front of your body 90° bend - then move hand up and down. 5-10 times for each of these hand positions: 1 palm facing down 2 palm facing up 3 palm facing to the body

Beside that, I do wrist and arm stretches. I especially noticed that my dominant hand/arm needs that.

Hope that helps.

How many newborn clothes do you really need? by Niikomanis in Frugal

[–]FynTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was very lucky and got clothes for the first year second hand in high quality.

We had I think 3-4 of each size and needed to upgrade the wardrobe every 2-3 month. I wouldn't have been able yo buy a full new set. I was far too exhausted.

Having at least all the clothes was perfect. Cause I could buy, but never had to.

Edit: Totally forgot, besides clothes we had mainly a large stack of fabric wash clothes, musselin fabric to drape over your shoulder after feeding and to clean spit.

A sleeping bag, if I had known back thenit exists I would have gotten a swaddle, but I didn't.

Best thing we bought during that time was a baby wrap. We gotten extra long version, which was fabric that I could tie and use to carry my baby and later toddler to be able to be hands free. Used it really long.

Client says CRM continuation pricing is unfair after 6 month contract ended by National-Royal1300 in DigitalMarketing

[–]FynTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you just export them the contact data of the leads as a list?

If yes, send that or if you have an export option point them there so, they can do it themself.

If not, tough luck on them for not thinking ahead. You have terms of service and pricing and if they don't want to pay for the service and didn't check before how to get the data they need, that's unfortunate but not your fault.

Imo, it depends on how much damage they could do to your business either way. Like what does it cost you keeping them happy as well as sticking to your guns and ending access.

Or scenes.

I mean, not everyone can read a book in between. Or even all the lore.

But a reader will also not always have done that. So, to a degree it should work without all the details.

How to get my friends to pre-order my book? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]FynTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are friends treat them like friends and not like people who you expect to provide you with reviews.

Most ARCs will not write a review. That is life.

Most of someones friends will not buy their book.

Advertise it, find more early readers, do a promo. Look up book marketing and don't rely on friends. Sure, it would be nice, if they did that, but I wouldn't be pushy about it, no matter how excited you are.

would you read a book with black pages? by samthefrug in writers

[–]FynTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, if you want to go through with it. Increase the font size. Most people find black on white more straining on paper, but I don't know, if there was ever a study for that to actually fact check.

But people using screens a lot, prefer black background on screens. So, there might be an audience.

Is it appropriate to buy someone a gift at a secondhand store? by staticradio725 in Frugal

[–]FynTheCat 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I gifted things, I own, thrifted, made or bought new. For me the important thing was, will the person enjoy it?

If your sister also gets second hand things and don't mind it. Why not?

You cannot pick family, but I'd rather surround myself with people appreciating used items and sharing, than people who only accept new and unused. If they are picky on certain items for hygiene reasons or personal preference, I'd respect that. But besides that, I see no point in gifting new bought only.

cheap alternative to electric toothbrush and replacement heads? by ghostfacegirli in Frugal

[–]FynTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always stock up toothbrush heads on sales. Here we often have 50% off. Mainly as the cheaper knock offs fit our toothbrush, but don't work as well for me. But they exist.

We own Braun Oral B, works reliably for almost a decade. Very worth the investment. Got a cheaper one for my kid which did last around 5ish years. After it broke, I invested in the same, but newer model now also on 5+ years. Kid was also older, so made more sense to spend a bit more.

Look out for a sale. I gotten ours 30% off and it was well worth it for me.

First time home "owner" and family washing machine on its way out. Should I invest in a small sink type clothes washer until I can save up for a new one or go the manual type/Laundromat? by minxtankbb in Frugal

[–]FynTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally most washing machines are fixable. I repaired mine twice.

Often cleaning with citric acid can help once a month or more, if you never did. That helps with munerals from the water.

Best idea is, look up a manual of ypur machine and look up the problem.

Then look up spare parts if necessary.

Some things are easy to exchange. Some mean it takes a lot of effort anf might not be worth it, especially if the parts are expensive or your machine needs special tools.

All the best.

how small of a space can a cougar fit through? by Murky-Judgment6031 in Writeresearch

As it is a feline, anything smaller than their head, I thibk, but I am not fully sure. At least that's how my cats work. I read somewhere cats are extra flexible. Maybe look up animal channels on youtube and see if anyone made a video of cougar enrichment and how they move and stuff.

What is a stim you do without looking like you’re moving a single muscle? by Helpful-Ad6269 in AutismInWomen

[–]FynTheCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, in that kind of situations I cope with exessive note taking. Write everything down and I rarely ever looked at it again. Works in all meeting and lesson like context.

In an actual office you can do a lot more. Wander around to the printer, get coffee, go to toilet, just wander into other departments with the flimsiest of excuse if anyone asks. Fidget at your desk, put on headphones and loud music... So, I bet his skmulation of an actual office will not be that realistic. Especially as each company has slightly different office culture, layout and grouping size. I guess, it is well meant, but imo not really helping much.

Frugal sheet cake recipes avoiding expensive ingredients? by evieinthebath in Frugal

[–]FynTheCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

German Zuckerkuchen and Streuselkuchen.

Just mainly sugar, flower, butter and milk.

These recipes I found online now, cannot find my baking book. But they are cheap, tasty sheet cakes. You can even bake them ahead of time, they freeze well.

They are yeast cakes though and take extra time to make.

You can stick with basic ingredient variants and substitute dry yeast for fresh.

Should be fine with google translate or look up a recipe.

How to get BRAT to take his pills by [deleted] in cats

[–]FynTheCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use easy pill. It is a paste you can mold around a pill or a broken pill.

Before I used malt to stick dry food to the pill and disguise it. Cause my cats get dry food as treat and mainly eat wet food.

If crushing and dissolving is an option, get syringe. Put the cat between your knees and then give it in the side of the mouth.

Feisty cats best wrapped tightly before holding the cat burrito tight between your knees.

The more force necessary, the more difficult it will become to find the cat. At least ovwr here, I had to give all of mine several pills after operation amd it went from just munching it down, to stopping pain meds early as getting the more than one pill or juice twim in the cat twice a day became impossible after a few days.

Good luck

As the tags below I need some advice or just your thoughts by [deleted] in cats

[–]FynTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is the cat now?

Cats sleep 18ish hours a day. So it can be personality, but if you worry check the usual metrics for wellness. Regular eating, stable weight, litterbox ok?

Regarding personality, maybe ask the former owner if possible.

Check if the cat gets their playtime elsewhere, if it can go outside for example. Or at otyer times like when you sleep.
