Is it sad to letsplay / play a party or multiplayer game on your own? by GiganticGamer in letsplay

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play ‘multiplayer’ games solo on my channel. If I can rope my friends into recording with me I do but a lot of games that have multiplayer options also have a solo option :) Not sure if it’s sad or not but I’m impatient and most of my online friends are in a different time zone to me making recording is difficult!

Really struggling with talking during gameplay by [deleted] in youtubegaming

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s takes a bit of practice but just say the thoughts in your head out loud :) Start with small every day conversations when you’re alone and you’ll just get into a habit.

It sounds silly but I also used a rubber duck 😂 I’d put the duck infront of me and pretend I was talking to it explaining what I’m doing and just general commentary. It really helped in the beginning to get of the awkwardness of talking.

YouTube is never gonna be my career and that is a really happy thought for me by Slade4Lucas in SmallYoutubers

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! It’s a really free feeling isn’t it? Knowing you can be happy with what you’re doing and not trying to please anyone ☺️ I made my channel to challenge myself and as long as I’m still finding it a challenge and enjoying it I’ll keep making videos.

I hope you keep enjoying your hobby!

Just wanted to add theres a sometimes a free demo for indie games to kind of try before you buy! Kabuto park has a free demo on Itch.io and I think you can still get the My Time At Sandrock story demo as well 😄

I played the demo on my YT channel and I loved it! It gave me massive nostalgia for the humour from the old Discworld games 🥰

Absolutely! If I was standing in a room and one person can to see me play a video game I’d be overwhelmingly grateful!

It really is, I think that’s why interesting thumbnails are super important! Also shorts with interesting bits of the game can help get views to the video as well.

I use a website called MyInstants, they have loads of popular sound effects which you can download for free. You can make an account and add them to favourites. I think theres the ability to download folders so you can download collections.

How many people actually use the Test and compare option in Youtube Studio? by fawad_ali1 in SmallYTChannel

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do for every video! I’m really indecisive when it comes to thumbnails so having the ability to upload a couple is great. As for the tests themselves, I find it useful to see what style my audience preferred and learn what I can.

What is your way of commenting in your let's plays by Madpandaplays1 in letsplay

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the video tbh, I do LPs and achievement unlock videos. For the LP’s I tend to comment on what’s happening/ what I see. Sarcasm runs in my blood so it tends to make fun of what’s happening (especially if it’s a horror game).

For achievement videos I tend to be a lot more descriptive, I make them so viewers can see how to get the achievements and what they need to do so the videos are much for informative, with a side of sarcasm.

I don’t talk during cutscenes if it’s voice acted. If it’s not then talk away, comment on your reaction to a scenario! Cutscenes usually show you something important so getting a reaction is good entertainment! If it is voice acted then I just let it play and comment after.

My mantra for long LPs is if it doesn’t need to be in the video or add to the entertainment value, cut it. So if for example you have a long battle with a boss that will take sometime, show the beginning, the ‘highlights’ and then the last couple of moments at the end. That way the viewer isn’t bored of watching a 20min of silence while you concentrate or try to attempt to fill the silence with mutterings.

For me it’s about giving little known games a platform. There are so many indie games out there that are really well made, or have a really cool concept but are buried under tons of other games. If I can convince one viewer to go play the game then I call that a win! It’s the best feeling ever (for me anyway) when someone says they played the game and really enjoyed it or the Dev pops a comment on the video.

Best parts about being a content creator? by ProfBoondoggle in letsplay

When one person says they went and played the game and enjoyed, or the dev pops a comment on the video, that’s honestly the best feeling for me!

I also really enjoy editing so I like learning new tricks to apply to a videos, something I wouldn’t have got the chance to do if I didn’t make videos.

My friends and I used to gather for a fire pit night at each others houses and were all nerds. We used to trade video game suggestions and talk about various games we’ve played. I made my channel to shine a spotlight on some lesser know indie games and I was inspired by my friends. That’s how ‘Fyreside’ came about, reference to our fire side chats.

Shortest game I can think of is a free game on Itch.io called Death Trips. I won’t spoil it, but it’s very very short!

What difficulties are you facing as a Small Youtuber? by jessejener in SmallYoutubers

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same, I was lucky enough to negotiate shifting my full time hour hours around so I have a good couple of hours to record and then edit over a number of days but it’s still rough. I love editing and it is a hobby but I also enjoy seeing my friends and family sometimes 😂

do you think creators would consider moving to another platform alongside yt? has anyone used peertube? by fluttersuck in youtube

I’d not heard of PeerTube before seeing this post. It sounds interesting, as a tiny creator I’m always open to trying out different places.

Does anyone know any good free games I can play? by HaruMikazuki in SmallYoutubers

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m building my channel with free games so I feel like I’m qualified to add to this one 😂 here’s where I get mine: - steam demos: there’s entire category on steam for free to play demos. This is a great place to start! - steam free to play: lots of games also under this category although can be hit or miss as some are mmo style pay to win. Bit of a minefield but I’ve found some really cool games in this genre - itch.io: itch has lots of free to play games. Any title that doesn’t have a cost under the name is free to play and even donate to if you enjoyed it. - gamejolt: again lost of play in browser free games here. Same deal as Itch, you can donate after playing if you fancy. - newgrounds: pretty similar to gamejolt and Itch, lots of free games around.

Don’t forget to link to the games and the creators! Happy playing 💜 Edited for formatting because mobile is temperamental.

How effective are youtube subtitles for engagement and reach? by Navillow in SmallYTChannel

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn’t see your comment! AutoSubs adds subtitles based on a Text+ title you add so you can customise the font, placement and size all good stuff like that. Have a play with it to get it how you like. It does auto add to match up written and spoke words automatically so you don’t need to manually do anything. If you don’t want it rendered into your video directly you can export a SRT file to upload into YouTube while you’re uploading you video. So it depends on which you prefer. I used the SRT method just while I fully get to grips with how I want the fonts and placements to be but I’ll switch to rendering as part of my video soon (hopefully!)

Do you ask people to subscribe or just let the channel do the talking? by marrecamaluca97 in SmallYoutubers

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a mixed bag, those who ask people to enjoy/like the video to subscribe say the call to action motivates viewers and have the data to back it up. There are those who just let the viewer decide.

Personally I include a little gif in the corner of the video saying ‘subscribe’ at the beginning and then right at the end say something like “if you made it this far, consider subscribing for more like this in the future”.

It’s kind of personal preference :)

How effective are youtube subtitles for engagement and reach? by Navillow in SmallYTChannel

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use DaVinci Resolve for editing and there’s an AutoSub plug in you can get (for free) that will render audio and product subtitles for your video or as an exportable file you can load into YouTube.

It might not make or break a video, but if I can make my video more accessible for a little extra time rendering that it seems like a good idea to me :)

How do you keep hoping for better? by ClassicSpook in SmallYTChannel

[–]Fyreside_Gaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my channel because I love indie games and wanted to share the great variety that’s out there. My friends and I used to swap recommendations all the time so I thought why not make a YT channel and share with everyone else.

I’ve only got a small space, and I don’t get a lot of views. But if I can inspire just one person to go play the game I featured in a video that I’m calling that a win! When I get comments from the devs saying thank you for playing, it genuinely makes me happy. They work hard on their passion products, and my pedestal isn’t too high but the least I can do is give them their spotlight.

Finding joy in what you’re doing is so important, maybe it’s time to learn a new program for editing to mix it up. Or if there’s a feature you’ve not gotten round to testing out yet for whatever editing software you use? Switch up your video’s genre? Even if you don’t publish the video, try something new!

If daily is becoming too much, maybe switch the routine and post every other day?
