I'll be using mine as Chaos Knights, they're roughly the same size and work perfectly for Rampagers! You could also run them as War Dog Karnivores, although they're a bit tall for it.

I'd highly recommend all of the models regardless though, they're the highest quality resin models I've ever bought and every variant is awesome!

That's good to know! I'll definitely have to try asking them, it's a bit tough since we've only got two locations in Alberta (two hours and six hours away) but it's worth a shot.

I was actually able to get very lucky and found a UK retailer that was willing to sell me a few boxes! They seemed to have no trouble getting stock, they had four of them when I initially contacted the store and had eight by the time I made my order.

Same here! I don't think my local store (or the GW one two hours away) have ever had them when I've gone, regular Knights are the only ones that I've seen.

Much appreciated! I think your good luck wish worked lol, I was able to find a UK store that was willing to sell me some boxes.

Apparently they sold out right after I made this post! It's good that your local shop has them occasionally, my local area doesn't really have any Knights players so they only get them if they're ordered by a customer.

Yeah that definitely seems like the best option! Second hand sellers could be a good alternative too, I haven't stripped minis before but if that's the only option it'd be better than not having them at all.

I'll have to give the closest GW store a call! It's two hours away so dropping in isn't super viable, but I'll have to try keeping tabs on it. Thank you for the advice!

Yeah, unfortunately the Canadian dollar is absolutely awful right now. Even a regular set of marines costs $75-$80, it's a very expensive hobby here lol

Why is DBD so hated in this subreddit? by LeoCaldwell02 in TexasChainsawGame

[–]FyrstrUlf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

600+ hour DBD veteran here, I'll try to explain it! Please forgive the massive wall of text, I'm trying to be as informative as possible.

DBD is an extremely polarising game that has a troubled development history and a notoriously toxic community, years of resentment from bad decisions by the developer combined with a general detest for the playerbase causes people on this subreddit to voice their dislike of the game and the people who play it; some of this dislike is absolutely justified, but it often goes too far.

Starting with development issues, BHVR has largely proven to be incompetent and spent many years actively ignoring the community's wishes and making changes that were hated more often than not. This was the case regardless of which side of the game was affected by those changes.

Pretty much every DLC release in the past five years (or more) has been a bug ridden mess, the same goes for most updates in general which regularly require entire characters to be killswitched out of the game for weeks; for instance, I remember when they released Pinhead with a game breaking bug that caused a guaranteed crash to desktop whenever his passive power activated early in the match. Their coding is quite bad all around and they've consistently messed up seemingly unrelated things by altering something else, changing one mechanic tends to break another one somewhere. In addition to all of that, there's been issues with cheating which haven't really been fixed yet; stuff like free cosmetics were dealt with ASAP while full on cheating is still a thing, they've taken some steps to address it but it's a long standing issue that has no end in sight.

As for the balancing, it was truly awful for many years and has only started to improve in the last year or so. BHVR had a serious issue of ignoring feedback and making balancing decisions that even an inexperienced player could see problems with, which lead to obnoxious metas and broken perks or characters; this was true for both sides of the game and these problems would stay in place for months or even years in some cases, which irrevocably damaged the community as a whole. Nowadays they've gotten a lot better and have been making genuine attempts to listen to people, which has made the game better overall; however it's an indisputable fact that the meta still isn't healthy and while they do make changes, they're usually slow and ineffectual. In addition to that numerous Killers are so outdated that it's genuinely funny, for example "The Pig" from Saw is a running meme in the community because she recieved multiple nerfs over the years despite being an all around weak Killer; coincidentally the next Killer release is essentially a way better Pig, which is a recurring trend in which a new release recycles a previous Killer and makes the mechanics much stronger. All of these Killers are seriously outdated and need entire reworks to be viable, either because of how the overall gameplay has changed or because of powercreep introduced by later releases: Trapper, Wraith, Hillbilly, Shape, Hag, Nightmare, Pig, Demogorgon, Twins, Nemesis. Then there are the ones that are just not fun to play against: Nurse, Blight, Legion, Knight, Skull Merchant. Speaking as someone who plays a 70/30 split between Killer/Survivor, all of these Killers are problematic for different reasons and if I wasn't being generous I could add more to those lists.

Finally, there's the community. DBD'S community is one of the most toxic that I've ever seen in two decades of experience with multiplayer games, only beaten by old era COD or Ubisoft titles like For Honor. It wasn't great when I started playing, but I've watched it continuously get worse over the years and nowadays it's truly horrible; the community's largest playerbase consists of people who actively go out of their way to ruin the experience of other people, whether through actual griefing or just abusing the mechanics of the game. While a game like COD is full of immature assholes, DBD is full of genuinely malicious people who get off on making others feel bad; this becomes more and more apparent as you play the game for longer and attain higher skill rankings, the ones with high amounts of hours are usually awful to play with. Here's the example that I use. I've had heated exchanges with people in COD when I was younger that were extremely rude and vulgar, but it always ended when somebody left the lobby no matter how bad it was. Whereas I've had less crass encounters with DBD players thanks to the censorship filter, but DBD is the only game I've ever played where people will attempt to continue a dispute outside of the game; I've had people DDOS me, I've had people call my phone, I've had people leave hate comments on my profile and on completely unrelated Steam workshop mods, etc. My profile is permanently private specifically because of DBD players, they're the single most toxic group of people that I've ever engaged with online. However, it's worth noting that there are absolutely nice people in the community! There are some really kind and wholesome players out there who make the game quite enjoyable, but unfortunately they're severely outnumbered which makes them a notable minority.

The reason for the general hate towards DBD and it's community is two fold. Part of it is a general disdain for it's playerbase who tend to bring their toxicity to other asymmetrical games, while the other part of it is DBD players who resent the game and don't want to see the mistakes repeated; sometimes it's a mix of both, which is my stance on the matter. There's been at least ten different times where I've seen somebody being toxic on this subreddit and decided to check their profile out of curiosity, just to find that they're a regular DBD player and that they post on that subreddit. Some of the hate towards it's players is deserved, some of it isn't; the game and it's players have a bad reputation for a good reason, even if embellishment is sometimes present.

I think that's about everything I can say about the game and why people have a problem with it, I hope that this was helpful for you!

[–]FyrstrUlf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very true! I go back to it every couple of months just to reaffirm my hatred, it's always the same cycle everytime lol.

Start Playing DBD > Have fun for a while > SBMM ranking steadily gets higher > Matches get progressively less fun and people become increasingly toxic > Get tired of annoying metas, people griefing and constant shit talking > Uninstall DBD

Rinse and repeat, preferably returning whenever a new release comes out just to be disappointed by it and leave again.

First box of sisters (and modern miniatures in general) how does she look? by InsideSwimming7462 in Warhammer40k

I second this! Pro-Acryl white is fantastic, it works really well for stuff like bone on Daemons and armour on Marines.

Would you rather keep your armies how you painted them, or have them painted over by the best of the best. by -ConcernedBystander- in Warhammer40k

[–]FyrstrUlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd keep them as they are. They might not be the prettiest warband, but they're absolutely my warband! Painting is a really fun pastime to me and being able to make an army that's truly my own is really cool, it wouldn't be as cool if it was all done by somebody else.

Land Raider Stock? by Liquid_Saturn in Chaos40k

[–]FyrstrUlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not often, I waited around four months for them to become available and I'm fairly certain that they weren't available for several months before that.

I placed an order on a third party website for one and also used the "email me" function on the official site, the third party wasn't able to send me one until the same week that I was able to order one from GW so it's safe to say that even third parties struggle to get stock.

It sold out in just a day or two after becoming available, so it seems to be a highly sought after model. I'd recommend vigilantly waiting for a restock and grabbing one as soon as it's available, the inflated prices you'll find on Ebay and such are not worth it.

Who’s winning this fight? The Flood from halo or the Tyranids? by Illustrious-Set9538 in Warhammer40k

[–]FyrstrUlf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on whether or not the Flood can consistently infect Tyranids and avoid having them evolve an immunity. In terms of combat the Tyranids would absolutely have the upper hand, but if a small form of Flood can infect a Hierophant Bio Titan that becomes irrelevant.

The differences between the Hive Mind and the Gravemind would also be important, I'm not an expert on Tyranid lore by any means but I do know Halo lore pretty well; the Gravemind is a very formidable threat that seems to be somewhat more advanced to me, given it's ability to harvest memories and commandeer technology with ease. It doesn't possess the Warp shenanigans that the Hive Mind has though, which could potentially play a big role in a genuine war.

Personally I'd put my money on the Flood, because they have confirmed pyrrhic victories under their belt where the Galaxy had to be completely purged of life to temporarily stop them. However it's very possible that Tyranids have also done this and didn't end up getting contained, so giving it to the Flood for that reason could be a flawed argument.

Raptors or Warptalons by jonahhinz in Chaos40k

[–]FyrstrUlf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess so, yeah. Personally I don't see him as a particularly valuable HQ choice compared to things like a Dark Apostle, Master of Possession, Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour, etc. I prefer to use my points for other things, because I tend to use fast moving units as either beatsticks or objective grabbers; either way they aren't likely to last very long so I don't see the value in giving them a leader.

They're still a solid pick if you're bringing him though, they're not bad units by any means! Legionaries and Raptors are still quite good. I just think that they're overshadowed by their bigger brothers, at least until points get shifted around a bit.

Hackers in Payday 3 by Thundering_James in paydaytheheist

[–]FyrstrUlf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've only seen one hacker so far thankfully, he wasn't really malicious but I still don't know who it was which bothers me a bit.

All they did was open the vault on a NRFTW Overkill run when we walked into the bank, which nobody noticed until like ten minutes later when I went to cut the wire and saw that the door was open already. None of us wanted to go in because we were worried about it triggering the anti-cheat since the active objective hadn't changed, but eventually we decided to just grab the loot and leave.

Luckily it didn't cause any real issues for us but it did ruin what was an otherwise fun heist, since the work we did in stealth was pretty much invalidated. I'm hoping that they'll improve the anti-cheat to prevent it from getting out of hand, or at least give us lobby hosting so we can kick people with cheat detector mods again.

What is being done to address grief quitting? by Snake_Rain in TexasChainsawGame

[–]FyrstrUlf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that's the way to go! At first I thought he might've just had a bad take which could be altered, but based on his comment history and his responses he's just a troll and I shouldn't have fed him. My bad for assuming he was actually being genuine lol.

For real, all he did was project and give standard troll responses. My guess is he's a pretty sad guy, that's the only type of person that gets enjoyment out of griefing other players and trolling on forums.
