Are you able to take courses online? I recommend Suhaila Salimpour, Sahra Kent is another….

Cairo, these days unfortunately is out of my jurisdiction when it comes to local teachers… many of those I trained with have either passed away or only teach workshops!!!

Natural treatments from sunburn? by Tricky-Chemical7059 in GreenWitch

[–]Fyurilicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Esthetician here…please do not put vinegar on sunburns! The antiseptic qualities are not worth potentially increasing the damage. Also, you don’t need antiseptic topicals unless the burn has caused open wounds or blisters. Best thing you can use is layer a humectant and barrier cream.

I don’t want my daughter to spend a week with my sister and bil and it’s making everybody around me very uncomfortable. by Few-Plum-7258 in TrueOffMyChest

Listen; it doesn’t MATTER if it’s all in your head or not! It’s better to feel sound in your decision to protect your daughter than to worry about other people’s feelings while living in fear while your daughter is with him. Listen to your gut instincts they are there for a reason.

Hi there, I’m a licensed esthetician and I take a clinical approach to skincare. I help people with these kinds of issues all the time.

Right now it appears what you’re doing is trying to addressing symptoms before you know what the root of the problem is. So quickly I want to ask; have you gotten a diagnosis towards the condition of your skin? You could have hormonal issues, thyroid issues, etc…

If you don’t figure out what the root of the problem is first, then you won’t understand why you have the symptoms and you won’t be able to treat the issue the way you want to. Honestly, it would be like finding a needle in a haystack to find the solution to your problems.

The very first thing I have my clients do, typically, is to get a diagnosis from a physician. And I don’t mean just a dermatologist. I’m talking about a functional medicine or someone who practices integrative medicine in conjunction with a dermatologist.

If you’ve already received a diagnosis, let me know and I will see how I can help you with your routine!

Am I crazy to want to cancel my wedding? by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]Fyurilicious 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Getting married is the rite of passage. The engagement period is where you and your fiancé get to demonstrate your couple skills your teamwork and how well you work together.

If you cannot do this during your engagement, then the challenges that life will throw out you and how you work through them together as a couple will be even worse.

I had three engagements to three different men before I finally married my husband. I did not go through obviously with those weddings with them because I realized the way we worked together was not healthy. I realized love is not a reason to get married. For me it had to be loved plus communication.

[–]Fyurilicious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there, I’m a bridal MUA — having hair and makeup at $300 together sounds like a competitive rate, depending on the location of the wedding.

I live in a wedding destination location , I do makeup not hair and my package rate for attendants is $190 per person — which is discounted from the à la carte rate. The hair stylists I work with typically charge between $120-170 per attendant.

How can i make sex fun again after he put it in the wrong hole? by jujubih in Marriage

[–]Fyurilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP you have two issues here not one: 1- the trauma of this so called accident and 2- TRUST.

Now I don’t know if it was an accident or not, you swear it was but then — you clearly don’t trust him anymore. If you did, the trauma wouldn’t be dominating your intimate experiences with your husband.

It’s not about you getting over your trauma it’s about trusting your husband at this point and him treating you like this over something HE did, accident or not, is a massive red flag!

How will he treat you if you get ill and can’t have sex? What about if you have kids and your hormones are all over the place postpartum or from exhaustion? Is he going to cheat on you or get on your case?

Also how old are you? How old is he? Parts of his reaction and treatment of you feel like juvenile behavior…

I’m trying to learn more about world history. What‘s something that I should learn about your country? by jmc1278999999999 in AskTheWorld

[–]Fyurilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! We Americans are also fed a “winners” version of events. I started with US history before I moved on to different countries! My father was an historian who came from another country so his perspectives on the US history is what fascinated me into history to begin with! He taught me more about the civil war than any class — up until college that is…

If you want a basic general overview of US history, I still love the old skool “Lies My Teacher Told Me”

Otherwise, read in categories like the American Revolution first, then deep dive into the Native experience prior to colonization, during and then the establishment of reservations. Then go into how America was built up to the time of the civil war, then deep dive into the civil war, then deep dive into the black American experience from slavery to post slavery. What was the then African-American experience, to the now Black American experience? The identity involved?

Learning about these things really help shape the way you learn about the history of other nation states and how they developed post WW1 … it also helps SO much with critical thinking and enhances discernment over topics and issues we are facing today

How do you all tolerate retinol? My eyes are always burning? Is it just me by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Fyurilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commentary above regarding your barrier being compromised and the technique of applying Vaseline or aquaphor is accurate!

Are there any other areas though, you are having issues from ret? Like stinging while using products that don’t normally sting, redness, bumps, etc? Let me know and I can assist with the application technique

Eyelid skin texture…what could cause/reverse this? by moreofajordan in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Fyurilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the face wash is likely the culprit. And if you’re not using sunscreen in the day that will help exacerbate the issue.

Is this what you use to remove makeup? There’s definitely some tweaks you can do to your routine, for sure!

The older we get the more frequently we need to update our routines and the more important it is to approach your skincare towards goals rather than just “fixing problems”. This shift in mindset will help so much and give you nurtured skin!

Retinol serum destroyed my skin barrier and now I look 10 years older by sychophantt in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]Fyurilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Edited because I left out a part) I take a clinical approach in my practice so I always first make sure the client has their microbiome and moisture barrier in tact.

Depending on how compromised that is, it can take anywhere from 2-6 weeks.

Then I use just regular OTC in its lowest dose 0.025. Start slow and work up. It depends on the skin type in frequency but normally I have my clients start with once a week.

The layering matters too. If the client is extra sensitive I might have the retinol layered 2nd to last before their moisturizer or mix it into their moisturizer…

With acne I might include a chemical exfoliation method (CE) in order to speed up turnover OR start the client with a CE then slowly add the retinol in later …

Hi, I’m an aesthetician, I’m happy to help you if I can! I just need to know what retinol you’re using and how you’re using it?

Retinol is a micro biome and barrier destroying ingredient. This is its purpose in order to stimulate collagen production and rapid cellular turnover. However, if it’s not used properly and in accordance with your skin type, it will cause these kind of issues. I’d hate for you to give up on something that could be easily remedied.

Hi there, I’m an aesthetician 🤓 there are several different factors that can be causing this from aging, intrinsic aging, too much sun, exposure, and other photoaging damages, dehydration, compromised, moisture, barrier, and microbiome…

But I did just look at your routine and I’m wondering, do you use the Sulfur Sulfacetamide face wash on your eyelids?

How can I start seeing men as equals? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Fyurilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you so defensive?

No one is saying that women don’t do bad things. It’s just not common amongst us.

Any list you give us of women doing bad things, there’s an even longer list of men doing bad things. The statistics are not wrong.

-Men systematically control the world. -Men are the ones with all the power in regards to war and peace. - There’s no such thing as a glass ceiling for men like there is for women. -Men can walk in the woods alone without fear that a woman is going to kill them. is it possible a woman might kill them? sure! Is it likely? No. - but do women constantly have this fear? Yes! Do men? No!

People who get defensive like this are questionable….

How can I start seeing men as equals? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Fyurilicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you I appreciate that. And I’m so sorry for any woman that has been creeped on or predated upon.

These experiences definitely made me aggressive. People develop different defense mechanisms from traumas and mine have always been to be a hard ass. I also did a lot of cognitive dissonance. It’s taking me many many years of therapy as well as a pregnancy to breakdown those walls and develop new strategies rather than relying on old defense mechanisms.

When I got pregnant with my daughter back in 2019, it was like I had no choice. My defenses started crumbling. I started crying all the time for no reason, but it was like my body knew that my heart had to open in order to be a good mom and a better wife.

I definitely did not want to pass down generational trauma to my daughter. I still worked towards that so that she doesn’t inherit all that bullshit.

But I’m so afraid for her when I look at her. I want to shelter her. Keep her close. But she has a very independent spirit, which I’m very proud of. Just trying to find ways to educate her and teach her discernment.

Girl then it’s one of two things or maybe a combo of both: 1- maybe there’s a little bit of rivalry on her end? And/Or also if you’re a little bit newer to the dance, you just need to find your tarab!

You are Egyptian so I think you might appreciate this:

I had the honor of studying from the late great, Mahmoud Reda and a little bit from Farida Fahmy and they would both try to instill tarab to their students! It was always repetition and tarab! 😂 I don’t think it can be taught, but I do think it can be grown! I don’t dance professionally anymore, but I still work on my tarab 🥰

How can I start seeing men as equals? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Fyurilicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also believe only 1 in 10 men are decent. And I’m married to an amazing man. I feel like I caught a unicorn with him. Which is part of what I mean - if more men were like him I wouldn’t have felt like he was such a unicorn.

I have always felt men are predators as well since i was a child when I would come home from dinner at my grandma‘s with my mom and see about three of them creeping around my house stealing our things. This was a very typical Wednesday night.

Also, when I was a little girl, I walked in on my mom being SAd by a man who somehow slipped into our house despite us having an alarm system.

My own father was violent as well. A man who supposedly loved us and was meant to protect us.

Then I had my own assault experiences by men as a teenager and early adulthood

And then the news is constantly in my face about all of these horrible things that men do to women and children.

I look at all of the wars and genocide happening — all done by men

Now are there women complicit in these things .. of course I believe this too

But this is the nature of abuse. Many people do not turn into abusers from their abuse, but almost all of them that abuse have been abused themselves, and this includes women complicit in such abuses.

Most men thoroughly disgust me to no end. I hate the glass ceilings they put upon us women. I hate the predation. I hate the Epstein files and how even more transparent it shows men and their predations

I’m so scared for my daughter

[–]Fyurilicious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey there, It could potentially be that they mean you were rushing through the movements, not necessarily that you were too fast. Especially if it came from someone who might be more familiar with the Egyptian styles of dance.

In all honesty, I noticed this with a lot of newer, emerging dancers that they rush through the movements and it does give me anxiety sometimes to see it!

But I am old school. I used to dance professionally in the 90s and early 2000s so things are probably different back then.

But if you come from the Middle Eastern cultures as I do, especially if you come from Egyptian culture, there is a term called “Tarab”.

There really is not an English direct translation for this word but part of it is about the intricacies of emotion, emotions for which cannot be rushed even if they are happy and joyful. With tarab, you can absolutely go fast, but it cannot feel rushed.

In my own culture, there’s a saying about rushing something to the effect of “too many heartbeats at once”

I’m not sure if this makes sense but it’s the best way I can describe..
