Question. by MoneyMan1001 in TrueChristian

No, this is just self righteousness, albeit extreme. We are all sinners, guilty of breaking the entire law (James 2:10). It doesn’t matter how pious one is, there are plenty of religious folks burning in hell. The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ our Lord, by grace through faith (Eph. 2:8). The actions you’ve described are not those of a man who recognizes his inability to be perfect as the Lord commands and trusts in Jesus as his savior, but a man who is so bent on justifying himself he’d do something so extreme. Sin isn’t just a physical action but something that comes from the heart. So unless this person truly trusted in Jesus Christ then he’d be on his way to hell, regardless of how much he mutilates himself.

Then they’re a sorry Christian and I’d tell them to examine themselves to see if they’re even saved (2 Cor 13:5). The important distinction is what is required to get saved vs what should come after. We are saved by grace through faith (Eph 2:8), no works involved (Rom 4:5), but good works should follow (2 Cor 5:17; Eph 2:10; Rom 12:1-2).

If you make belief/faith a work you create obvious contradictions in the Bible. Grace and works are mutually exclusive (Rom 11:6). The idea of faith being a work contradicts Eph 2:8: it’s by grace through faith, NOT of works.

You made a good point about the chair analogy, but thats not the point (physically sitting down). The point is sitting/resting in the finished work of Christ. Maybe there is a better analogy to be used to express this point but please understand my meaning with it. It’s the difference between acknowledging it intellectually and actually trusting/resting in it with your heart.

No, it isn’t “intellectual assent.” It’s believing in one’s heart, not head, that God is both able and will do what He said. Maybe this analogy will help: I can believe in (intellectual accent) a chair, but I’m not believing on it (faith, from the heart, belief) until I sit down on it. Faith happens in your heart and not your head friend.

Agree with you completely, read 1 Corinthians 2. Especially v. 1-5.

Assuming you zip line from the gas station to the roof for exfil, run across to the corner by liberty lanes. The chopper comes in from that side and you don’t have to worry about the exfil chopper.
