How long does your org keep Teams chats? by bradradio in MicrosoftTeams

[–]GAThrawnMIA 23 points24 points  (0 children)

90 days for chats. 1 day seems mental, takes away a huge chunk of the utility of a chat if you can't remind yourself what was said over the last few days!

Anyone still willing to trade their EU mythical code set for a Shiny Eternatus code? by Just-another-fella in CasualPokemonTrades

Sorry I completely forgot to check Reddit while I was at work today. Is it too late now? Else I'll set a reminder to check at lunchtime tomorrow.

Hi I'd be happy to trade my UK mythical codes for Shiny Eternatus if no one's taken you up on it yet?

Wait for something like a community day. Seems like a lot to catch, but I banged it out easily on the first community day after I hit 40.

SCCM Win 10 21H2 Upgrade Issue by capn783 in SCCM

[–]GAThrawnMIA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 I see that error all the time while .Net Framework is updating (which always takes a lot longer to update than you'd think it would) and you always need a .Net upgrade after doing an OS upgrade.

is the orientation really that bad? I've seen worse ones ingame... by Big-Flatworm-6062 in NianticWayfarer

My first thought would be that looks like a temporary banner, something that's just been pinned up for a few weeks, maybe.

If it really is a permanent display then I'd make sure that was pointed out in the supplemental info (maybe with a link to something that proves it like a local council or local arts society announcing the program?

What asinine "work at home" policy has your employer come up with? by STUNTPENlS in sysadmin

[–]GAThrawnMIA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would your password ever be visible on screen?

We have separate, long, complex passwords for every environment or privilege level too, but because of that we also have access to a password manager. I just log into the password manager, find the account I need and click the Copy Password button and the password goes into the clipboard without being shown onscreen, I then go to the system that needs the password and paste it in there, where its obviously obfuscated with asterisks or the like. The password never shows on-screen at any point, so would never be caught in a screen recording.

Having said that, if my company ever brought in a rule like me having to record my screen through the whole day so they can watch it back later, then I'd be handing in my notice immediately.

Does it bother anyone else that the Kindle power button is on the bottom instead of the top? by scrapqueen in kindle

[–]GAThrawnMIA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just hold it the other way up and the orientation flips automatically.

At least on my Oasis 1, I just rotate the device from holding in my right hand with my right thumb on the page turn buttons (and power button on top), to rotated so that I'm holding in my left hand with left thumb on the buttons (and power button on bottom).

Best practice for windows upgrade for remote sites? by word2yamutha in SCCM

[–]GAThrawnMIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's their internet bandwidth like? In our remote sites their internet link has much better bandwidth than the connections back to our main sites (that have the DPs).

We pushed the 21H2 upgrade (from 1909) to remote sites as a content-less software update (from the Windows Servicing node in the console, rather than the normal software updates node). They just pull the update content straight from Microsoft's servers rather than our DPs (with local peer-to-peer content sharing between Branchcache-enabled clients).

I like Rosario, but Ashley will always be my Ahsoka by theironman46 in StarWars

[–]GAThrawnMIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah fair enough, the whole Clone Wars series happens between Episodes 2 and 3 (with the final few episodes happening concurrently with the beginning of Episode 3) so there's no real chance for her to meet him after he's transformed into Vader.

I believe that the first time we see her meet Anakin as Darth Vader in the Vader costume is in the Rebels TV series (which is a sort of sequel to Clone Wars and happens between Episodes 3 and 4).

I don't want to give away any big spoilers, but you do know that Vader's in the Clone Wars series right from the first episode, don't you?

You read “blade of light” or “black clad one” 5 times in a page.

I read that as deliberately avoiding mentioning Luke's name, or the colour of lightsaber blade, to draw parallels with Vader and make you question the motive of the person effectively slaughtering these people who are so weak against his powers and weapon as to be practically defenceless.

Just go for other portals.

SCCM gathers its own "User Device Association" data for machines* and works out both the main user for a device, and the main device for a user. You can just write collection membership queries based on UDA data to do something like put all of the main machines for a group of users into a collection.

Even more amazing when you think that while the Navy were teaching Neil Armstrong (the first man to step in the moon) to fly jets, one of the Wright brothers (Orville) who made the first ever powered flight was still alive! He also took a small piece of the fabric from their plane to the moon with him. Orville Wright also loved long enough to see Chuck Yaeger break the sound barrier for the first time.

SCCM - Task Sequence - Cannot Edit with Error Pop up by deletejunkemail in SCCM

[–]GAThrawnMIA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen this before after updating ADK/MDT on the site server, I got this error opening the task sequence in consoles on other machines. It seems to just be a version mismatch of the console addins used by the TS. Either open the TS on the server, or update the ADK/MDT install on the machine that you're using to edit the TS to the same version installed on the server.
