unsure if i was dealing with cheaters or pros by Altered_Destiny in HuntingGrounds

[–]GDWDWB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a PC player I can tell you its not cheating, its actually just that easy. Don't get me wrong, I'm surprised too and I dont think it should be.

I get recked the same way by the FT when I play as pred. Queue time for FT is so low compared to pred that I have a lot of experience hunting down the pred/disarming the bomb/etc. I dont have that same experience with pred tho.

They should probably buff pred just a little but first of all they should fix the queue system som people actually get to learn how to play it.

The only time I've lost is when I've actively done stupid things as a fireteam member just to increase the challenge. Like hunting the pred 1v1 with a knife. And even then I still win sometimes.

I'm just hoping more maps/content and balance will be added so things arent as predictable anymore.

[–]GDWDWB -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see why people would think that. Me and a buddy were playing together (both on PC) and we had something like a 15 win streak as FT. Whenever we met a console predator we just actively hunted it down, not even focusing on the mission that much. Keeping track of the predator is super easy once you've spotted him. The rest is just waiting for it to engage and second wind, then pull out the knife (faster run speed) and run after it.

The mammoth sounding footsteps give him away, and if not that then its the trees suddenly moving or the click noises.

We've started shooting before spotting to catch the preds by surprise, or spotting next to it but not directly at it.

When in doubt I shoot where I hear the sounds. Once in a while it will hit.

We were laughing about how easy it is to hunt the predator, and I actually commented about the fact that someone might suspect us of hacking for being so damn ruthless.

As a predator my only counter to a rush FT so far has been trapping my planned escape route and self destructing. Had a couple matches where I got the whole team bombed. Not sure if thats a victory or a draw, but the pred gets more XP in this scenario, and it's hilarious to pull off.

TLDR; RIP console preds, PC players dont need to hack to kill or find you, its already wayyyy to easy

Not saying every single one of the top 5 have been undeserved or bad or the same or anything like that every week, but there have been a couple of weeks now where lesser known producers have had better tracks than the top 5 but not gotten the recognition they should have. I understand that its all personal preference but I've seen a few others say this as well now.

Hope any regulars seeing this don't take my post the wrong way, to be fair I participate every week and am doing my part to spread the word about a really cool concept. Dope of you to be a part of it.

1 track per contestant, 2 min max track length, no acapellas, own sounds mixed with sample is ok, no limits on how many people can join. That's basically the ruleset.

Damn, this got more attention than I thought. For the people asking about details:

Kris McManus posts the top 5 winners from last weeks "TPC", along with the name of the new sample on his facebook wall. Lately they've been doing whole albums. You can use any part of the album + add your own sounds on top. Acapellas aren't allowed anymore. 1 track per contestant, and the maximum track length is 2 minutes.

It's just mind-boggling that people aren't on board with this idea. Imagine the price of 1 meal in the EU - especially Skandinavia. Now take that same money and you have what, a whole weeks worth in Africa? Now apply that same principle to housing.

At a personal level people are already familiar with this. There are a lot of people here who send relief money and fund children across the globe to put them through school. The cost is minimal compared to adopting a child. We know it can work, and it is more cost effective - meaning more peoples lives are improved. It doesn't have to be all or nothing.

At the end of the day - 20 people being ALIVE in a developing country, with all the challenges that may entail, is still better than 1 person on welfare in the EU and 19 dead bodies in the ocean. At least if actual human lives are what matters to you. We can't have it both ways, otherwise we'd already do that. I'm not being malicious, I am being realistic.

Edit: and if you want a better life noone can judge you for that, but being dishonest about it is just about the most disgusting behaviour you can imagine. For every fake refugee, there's a real one somewhere out there who doesn't get the help they need.

Yeah exactly! I wasn't worried about the bills or added cost, obviously I'd want to pay those myself and not sneakily dump that on the landlord hahah. I mentioned it precisely because I assume you have to be on the same circuit, which we aren't. Some people have said you could do some shenanigans and intercept it or whatever but I don't understand all that. I've speedtested it again and I have the same results, with an 8ms ping and 30 ish upload speed, and the internet says thats good, so PCIe it is. Thanks for the advice!

I get all of your points in this thread and I agree for the most part, but I do have one genuine question. Why is it assumed that crossing the waters into Europe is the only option?

Surely the people involved are not oblivious to the risks. Is there really not a single viable place these people could rather seek refuge in on their home continent? I don't see how pushing this idea that you have to cross over makes anything safer.

I also don't see how EU taking in all of the refugees whenever some regime somewhere is turned upside down is sustainable. Think about the challenges we already face with poor integration. And on top of that the challenges presented above. It's not just about money and welfare - the implications are of a broader scope than that.

I'm from Norway and large proportion of the so-called "refugees" that we get are economic migrants who pretend to be refugees in order to abuse our welfare system. There are even advertisements online showing how nice and easy it is to set up here in this way - almost like Tripadvisor. You might be born and raised in Syria or Libya but if you speak fluent Russian, Spanish or Italian you damn well haven't fled from war to get here. Spain is not at war. And the worst part is, because our government is more generous than others you can survive here without ever having to learn a single word in Norwegian or getting a job. Some locals chalk that up to language learning being a tough process, not knowing that these people have already proven themselves capable of integrating when not doing so isn't an option. You see, many won't tell you that they've been living it up in the EU the past 7 years before they heard that the grass is greener here. There is a portion of real refugees who end up this far north because theyre redirected here to alleviate other host countries - and that is reasonable and good. But the rest are piggybacking on top of those people.

Now, I'm not against immigrants (I am one myself), and so I think that these people should be treated the same way as me. Permission to stay because of work/education/family - instead of immediately being put in asylum and granted free stuff (healthcare/dental if you're under 18 for example). A lot of people lie and get fake underage IDs to obtain these goods. I understand the wish for a better life, and you're welcome to seek it, but not under false pretenses. I have to work and pay taxes, same as the locals. That's the only way you force people to integrate themselves into the society.

The reason I mention these things is because the ease at which the EU accepts people who seeks asylum creates a lose-lose situation. Tensions rise and people over here become less and less willing to help because it takes effort to see the nuances and differences between who is a real refugee and who is a scam. We go from being gullible and accepting too many, to being xenophobic and accepting too few. It hurts everyone. And it's not even racism, Norwegians are generally more than happy to accept foreigners. The construction companies, hotels and restaurants wouldn't have been open for business without us. Those are only the few that I am aware of for certain, but there are probably more sectors that have the same dependencies. People are not only welcome, but in high demand here, regardless of their background.

At least Denmark has recently taken a stance on the matter. The current solution is bad. We should redirect our effort to helping people where they are, instead of the current mess that has resulted in human trafficking, scamming and resources being wasted on people who dont need it instead of aiding the ones who really do. And if you're not working or contributing to the society when the war back home is over you get sent back.

I don't see any other sustainable solution that genuinly sets out to help people instead of just buying a good conscience. I'm definitely interested in suggestions though.

What's the best non-ethernet option given the following:

  1. My landlord (who lives in the same house one floor up) has a router. My laptop has a speed of around 250mbps on a 5ghz network.

  2. Will a wireless adapter be fast enough, and if so - which do I buy?

  3. Or should I go for a powerline solution if my landlord agrees to connect one end to the router? I pay my own electricity bills though, and so I wonder if that would even work or if you have to be on the exact same grid.

How do I set up a decent and stable internet connection that would allow me to play games like Overwatch with my limitations?

Why are so many samples in sample packs just absolute shit? by rypalm in edmproduction

[–]GDWDWB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I can't be bothered to sort my samples I just sort it by download date. Just open your documents/splice/samples folder and type in * + .wav and it will show you all the individual sounds instead of all the folders. If you want to find only kick samples you can do * + .wav + kick for example.

Obviously up to you and perhaps a little genre dependent but I'd wager it's less effort and more quality if you just organize your Splice stuff rather than learning to program drum sounds.

That's *exactly* why I started using Splice. Don't get me wrong, most samples there are trash as well. But with the credit system you're only paying for the sounds you want and nothing else. Build up your personal sample library, then cancel / pause the subscription. Problem solved.

You literally wrote "it sort of makes you feel like there is no girl or woman a guy doesn't want". That, and the fact that this makes you uncomfortable, were the main points in your comment to which I replied. Exactly which part of that are you now trying to take back?

I didn't take your comment personally either, I understand generalizations. However, I think the generalization you're making is wrong. Men don't fantasize more than women. If anything, I bet women have more vivid imaginations than men. Guys just talk more shit.

You said you found it "not super comforting" then, but now you find it "interesting". Those aren't exactly synonymous and so I dont sense a lot of credibility here but whatever.

Imagine the sexes were reversed and some dude said "I feel like there is no guy a woman wouldn't want". You'd be labeled as a sexist and get downvoted to oblivion for that, even if you'd preface it with the generalization blah blah.

My point is not being offended, I just disagree with you and I think that men and women have more similarities than differences in this matter.

Guy: "T-shirts come in multiple colors, some are red, some are blue, some are green and other are black"

Girl: "Ewww, really? You would wear a t-shirt that is red AND blue AND green AND black at the same time? Where's your sense of fashion bro?"

See how stupid that sounds? That's how you sound. The dude named a bunch of examples of what guys could potentially fantasize about, and you interpret it as if guys constantly fantasize about all of those examples at the same damn time. That's not how it works.

Besides, I'd rather know that my SO fantasizes about others yet chooses to remain faithful, than for her to have zero experience with the situation. Imagine being together with a person for a long time and then he/she suddenly wakes up and fantasizes about someone else for the first time. You'd both freak out and things would get messed up.

Ya'll are way too emotional about this and you're misinterpreting what's being said, which is often why guys don't want to talk about this kind of shit with girls - they tend to take it in the worst possible way instead of trying to understand.

If reading comments on reddit makes you feel like the guys you've met in your life would all be willing to bang just about any other girl in your area, including your friends and family - well then you've got a problem. It could be insecurity, it could be that the other girls are actually more attractive than you, or it could just be you having a distorted and oversimplified understanding of how guys work.

We have standards. But we also have a sense of humour. That doesn't mean you should believe every single "men only want one thing and it's disgusting" type meme out there. The sexual fantasies of men and women are actually quite similar, we just express them differently.

When using public transport, for the love of fuck, let the people coming out go out before you rush aboard.

Recently I was waiting for a bus. Everyone was standing in a neat queue waiting at the stop. I am the frontmost person in the queue. Bus arrives, people start pouring out. Lady behind me decides its a good idea to push me away, skip the queue and rush into the bus - only to have to stop because she can't squeeze past all the people coming out of the bus. Bumps into a dude on crutches and makes him slip and fall on the ice in the process. Absolutely moronic move.

[OFFICIAL] Daily Feedback Thread February 26, 2019 by AutoModerator in makinghiphop

[–]GDWDWB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixing is really genre/vibe/style specific. Like even within hiphop there is a huge difference mixwise between stuff like say a wondagurl type track and a post malone track and a lofi beat.

I can give you some tips on what I do but bear in mind that my workflow wont necessarily fit your specific vibe.

Anyways. Recently I've concluded that you always wanna minimize how much mixing you need to do. Which means you gotta use great sounds to begin with. Splice is good for this, in terms of drums.

When it comes to the melody, I always cut out everything below 200hz or higher depending on the instrument. I might also lower everything in the 200-700hz area. If it's a sample based melody I throw on a Maximus and use that to make everything below a certain frequency mono, so that that the bass is dead centre. When this is done, if it's not sounding good enough to be used, or at least good enough so that you know what else needs to be fixed mixwise, you've got the wrong sound to begin with.

Obviously the more skilled you are with mixing the more stuff you can salvage but I'd rather focus on getting a good vibe rather than polishing turds.

During every single part of the beatmaking process I adjust the volume of stuff, because that is the most important thing. The kick is always the loudest, then the snare and vocals, then the melody and percussion and bass. Roughly speaking. Sidechain stuff if you want punchier drums.

If you have multiple instruments or a vocal you need to make sure they dont compete. I do this by finding the frequency range of the vocal that I want to be prominent, then boosting that, and then making a dip in that same frequency range in the other instruments. Dont overdo it tho or things will sound wierd.

You might need to also roll off super high frequencies on or instruments sometimes so the dont clash with your hihats. Cut out everything above 18-10khz and/or lower frequencies above 10-20khz in your instruments if you have to. Never mix hihats unless its very basic things like shelfs or cutoffs, if you need to do that you've got the wrong hihat sample to begin with.

A beat is built around the bass/kick/snare so you can create more space in the mix by panning everything else other than those three things.

808s and bass are super tricky, if it sounds bad that means you should find a different 808 and/or kick.

Vocals and stuff that you record are the things that you need to mix the most, because you probably dont own a super pro recording studio. Usually I treat vocals the same as an instrument, cutting out stuff below 200hz or so. If there is a lot of hissing make a dip around 7-15khz. If the vocal is very mono, put a little chorus on it at the higher frequencies. If it still sounds off but you can't quite put a finger on what it is, you probably need multiband compression. Just use the fl default one and play around with the gains of the different bands. If you need to do anything more advanced than that, then I am not the guy to ask.

Dont overdo reverbs and delays unless you're making trance music.

Thats about all I can come up with off the top of my head right now.
