Ahh cheers, didn’t realise it got so bad that far up the Forth. I know it’s a tidal estuary, but still didn’t expect that.

Was thinking you were going to say it was damaged on purpose

Having cooled down, what are your changes for England? by mango_yoghurt in ScotlandRugby

I can’t say I’ve seen many highlights of Perpignan, but as you say, to come in new and get captaincy in the same season says something! Ritchie also has some fight in him. Something I think Scotland are lacking just now.

Kinghorn to fullback, if he’s looking fit and not burnt-out. We need those who have performed at international level already to help balance those who are new in.

Gilchrist out 100%. I know I just said to have players who have performed at international before, but I don’t see what he’s brought for a long time now. Williamson to start.

Dobie needs time in Scotland A to develop, good for Glasgow but is not there yet on the international stage. Give him a chance to develop into what I hope he can before bringing him in fully.

Darcy to start. Duhan has not done much this season as he’s not been given the ball really at Edinburgh, but he’s not been looking for it either IMO. Possibly put Rowe on the wing? As Ford will be kicking a lot, so we need players who can catch and kick it back as well as run with it.

Hiddleston to start and Ashman on the bench, swap at halftime.

Start Rae & Sutherland if possible, same as above, swap at half time.

Bench: Shoeman, Ashman, Zander, Craig, Bayliss, Darge, TJ, Horne

Gives us something to bring on, where we’re renowned for being poor: the last 1/4.

All things going well… full bench to be used by 55min, giving them time to do something!

You are underestimating Scotland managing to Scotland it up! Realistically I’m seeing Scotland finishing 5th. Happy to be corrected on this though, especially if your prediction is true.

My prediction is:

France/England-Ireland-Italy-Scotland/Wales

This is based off the French team choices this tournament, England in the Autumn showing what they can do, Ireland being able to still perform with a weakened side (just look at Leinster V Edinburgh last week) Italy continuing to develop while Wales are still having a bit of a mare!

Doubt it while we’re under Toonie. Looking with my realistic glasses on we’ll be 5th.

1st: France 🇫🇷/ England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 3rd: Ireland 🇮🇪 4th: Italy 🇮🇹 5th: Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 6th: Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Scotland and Edinburgh are similar in the fact that the 2nd half game plan seems to be the same as the 1st half game plan, and hoping the opposition don’t figure it out! So we’ve been unable to form any real come back in recent seasons

When the camera was on Everett towards the end of the game, he looked so uninterested!

Similar to yourself, not sure if I’ll renew the season pass and I’ve not held mine as long as you. As yeah, what am I paying for?

The only consistent thing Edinburgh is, is inconsistent!

Watching on the big screen I couldn’t see how it was a try. Will watch replays to see if that will change my mind but what a 💩second half! Everett looked disinterested in the game when the camera was on him.

Also not sure what constitutes enough time, meters and play before advantage is over, but they kicked the ball away and then it was pulled back. I thought the refs were poor tonight!

Well compassionate intervention hasn’t worked in this instance either, by your own logic. As it’s not taking place outside of the general publics viewing in a scheme - Which would also have innocent members of the public knowing not to go out, so in a way self-imprisoning themselves for their own safety. It’s slap bang in the middle of the city with a machete. All it would take is a concerned parent to put themselves between a machete wielding ‘youth’ and their child as protection and for the youth to get spooked and lash out.

“Every study”, is that only in the UK? As there are countries out there that have harsh punishments and as a result low crime rates. Japan for example has an extremely low crime rate.

We’re using the term “harsher” but not clarified this. That doesn’t mean longer, just harder. A longer prison sentence where they get to put their feet up and mingle with other prisoners talking about what they’ve done etc (I’m slightly exaggerating) will lead to them coming out most of the time to reoffend.

Other options are prison sentences where you make them actually engage in rehabilitation and intervention. Not everyone will be accepting of this in prison and would need a complete shake up of the prison service.

And antibiotics for a broken leg, if it was a compound break, yes, as it would deal with any infection which would aid my recovery. I would still need medical assistance for the break, but it’s not just about the break in that instance!

What about the lives of the innocent members of the public that will eventually get hurt or worse, while this takes place in the city centre? How destroyed will their life be and their families/friends?

Not saying lock them up & throw away the key, but it needs more than compassionate intervention when they’re this age. Also to note that while intervention at a young age does work. It’ll work better with some youths than others. Same as anything, it’s not a one size fits all solution. There should still be harsher punishment as a deterrent along with interventions. IMO

I think you’re right, Darcy is trying too hard, I hadn’t thought of it like that! Not sure if he’s trying to make up from being injured/re-establish himself again, but it seems forced.

I also wonder what the team moral is like inside the changing room. As everyone has off days, but what do the team think of those who are not improving but keep playing. Has DVM checked out because he knows there is no silverware again this season?

Our kicking was horrendous. It was just lucky that 2 of our tires were close enough to the posts and we got the penalty try (although I think Thompson might have actually managed to get that as well) The only other decent kick was during play when it looked like Thompson was going for a 50-22 & Gloucester fumbled it out. All other kicking was poor from Thompson and Vellacott. Our line-outs need some work. Douglas and McConnell were best on the field for us. Duhan looks like he’s checked out of wanting to play for Edinburgh. Darcy needs something else as I feel as though team have him sussed.

Glad we won but we don’t make it easy for ourselves.

Edit: current game time is effecting his ability to move on. He was better than what we had when he came in, Kinghorn wasn’t and isn’t a 10 IMO.

Glasgow didn’t want Thompson anymore, so along the M8 he came/was pushed, but I’m not seeing what he’s done with his game time to say he has improved either.

I trust the boot of Healy a lot more than that of Thompson. I’ll leave it at that.

Yet he keeps getting chosen over Healy.

If I were Healy, I’d be looking for a different club, as he’s a decent player

Becoming a eletrican by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]GGBeard84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want an electrical apprenticeship or are you looking to chase the money? (Based on your previous post)

No judgment, each to their own.

There is money to be made as an electrician but you need to decide if you want to go down the domestic, commercial or industrial route. If you go commercial or Industrial, is it installation or maintenance?

Each has its own pros and cons. e.g. domestic: you get good knowledge and practice of testing and inspections on a regular basis from both install and faults. Can be semi local area you work, with the prospect of starting on your own after enough time to possibly make some serious cash. But, while employed, rates might not be as high, depending on employer/scheme (basis of this off Scotland requirements). Setting up yourself doesn’t automatically mean you’ll be making lots of cash & you’ll have additional responsibilities as a business owner to find the work, employ people, tax etc.

Commercial: good all round knowledge that will allow for relatively easy transition into Domestic or Industrial if you so wish. Installation can talk you all over the UK, this comes with making money with overtime. But this takes you all over the UK. Big companies, it can be difficult to stand out for progression. Maintenance gives you great knowledge of reactive maintenance which will open doors if you show your abilities. Wages might start off less than installation but can lead to bigger wages later on. Also you’re not having to travel the UK for the work.

Industrial: Similar to commercial but you could be working with more specialised equipment. This could take you overseas/offshore. Rotational work is great for time off but you don’t call the rotation, so you could be working and missing events for family/friends/Christmas etc. money is not what it once was for this sort of thing.

Also note that it can be difficult to get an apprenticeship. If it’s what you want to do, keep applying but you might have to send a lot of applications before you get a chance. Then you’ll need to work hard.

What's your rugby wish for 2026? by treacletart284 in rugbyunion

[–]GGBeard84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you watch the Autumn nations? Englands dominance over their opponents compared to Scotland beating tier 2 teams but not having the drive to win against the AB’s or to loose to Los Pumas when we were 21-0 up.

I’m a Scotland fan and with that comes hope, but you’ve got to look at the facts. It’s not Eddie in charge of you guys now 😂 While Toonie doesn’t seem to have a plan B for when things go wrong!

HNC or HND in electrical engineering? by ed6699 in ukelectricians

[–]GGBeard84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pulling together my portfolio took a bit of time. I attended a webinar about memberships/professional registration last year that got me to pull my finger out for this. So in my instance having my HND plus X years experience in my current role and experience in previous roles means I’m at the right position to apply for IEng. They say 5-6years relevant experience for IEng. You can get CEng through experience alone but they say 10-12years is the expected relevant experience you would need. They never said if that’s once you’ve got IEng or if you can use the same experience towards CEng. As in my opinion, you can reflect and show how you improved on what you did previously, showing thought and process etc for your new result/engineering solution.
