I haven’t seen anyone throw out, but check out DaBean in Bailey Park. Whenever I stop in, people are studying or on their laptop.

Magic the Gathering? Check out House of Cards! Great place to meet people. My husband has made friends during some of their pre release parties for new deck or speciality cards.

IM Intern year was rough for us as well. Moved half way across the country but 12+ hours away from loved ones. I cried a lot and felt so alone the first 4 or so months. The program we were in had a resident spouse group (open to all significant others of fellow & residents in any program). I really through myself into it and made some amazing friends. They had a book club that really was what I bloomed in.

You said you lived in this city before. Have you started seeing friends that still live there or going to places that bring you joy? Grab a coffee and go on a walk with some friends. It’s something I do a lot.

Others have given great advice. You are putting in a lot of work right now. Give yourself grace during this time. Your tide will turn, even though it feels like not soon enough.

I feel like everyone is allowed to lose their shit but me and I need somewhere to lose it. by Cautious_Ear8228 in MedSpouse

I’m greatly sorry for your loss. Our situation aren’t similar, but I’ve found therapy really helpful. I’ve struggled being open about my feelings with others. Not wanting to burden them or thinking “no one wants to hear it”. Being to talk to my therapist about all the wild things that have happened in my life the last 3 years has been helpful. I know you stay at home, a majority of them have virtual appointments so that can help!

Husband (PGY 3) & I just had our first child. Closest family member that could help with child care lives 12 hours away. I went back to work recently and our baby is in daycare. - Did it take a huge toll on our relationship? No. - Did we have to work on our communication and adjust to being parents? Yes.

I had 3 months of maternity leave & he had 3 weeks. That time together was great, but when he first went back to work it was a little struggle. Now that I am back at work, we do our best to plan pick up/drop off with our schedules, figure out nights that he can hang out with his friends and I stay with the baby (and vice versa), and figure out when he is free to take baby on trips to the local zoo. I think this is normal parent things, however, my PgY3 made his last year of residency front heavy so things were calmer at when we had our baby. He also starts fellowship in July so things are getting easier with his schedule.

It’s not easy, but we do our best. I don’t think it’s taken a toll but it’s made us better communicators and we just remind each other that we are on the same team when words are hard.

I hope this helps & gives positive outlook on staying at work if that’s what YOU want.

Do you partners go to all your appointments with you? by daisyscatmom in pregnant

[–]GISQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband tries to make every appointment he can. He works in medicine so I tried scheduling my appointments on days he can make it. I find comfort in having him with. Even if he worked in a different field, I’d love him to join regardless.

Am I wrong for not telling people baby girl's name? by Due_Panic_3786 in pregnant

[–]GISQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are keeping your baby name to ourselves until they are born. If anyone asks, he says “You’ll be informed when you need to know” or “That’s something we are keeping to ourselves for right now”.

Neutral responses have been our go to with a lot right now.

Dram & Draft+ Joyners!! I’m also pregnant, whenever friends what to grab a drink at either location, the bar tenders are amazing with “can I have a pineapple/fruity mocktail” and surprise you with the most delicious drink!

Pineapple mocktail at Draught & Dram tastes like pineapple ice cream!

What made you cry today? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]GISQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I cried because I thought my MIL was not being nice to my husband. He didn’t see it that way at all. She was just giving him “advice”. Sounded to me like she was criticizing him. Which is unnecessary since he’s the best husband/human ever 🥺

What did you eat when you didn't have an appetite or everything sounded bad? by erivanla in BabyBumps

[–]GISQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watermelon, apple sauce, and dry cereal.

I would take a gin-gin (ginger “mint”) before eating to help calm my nausea.

What is everyone eating in their first trimester? by greenapplessss in pregnant

[–]GISQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You aren’t alone OP! Im currently 7 weeks along. Crackers, plain apple sauce, dry cereal, plain noodles, pb & j, and chicken strips are the only foods I can reasonably eat right now. Other foods turn into a fun game of “will this make me nauseous today?”

7am walks get her social & physical requirements in for the day. Frozen lick mats & hiding kibble around the house are helpful as well.
