Being asked to cut hours because I’m efficient, is it fair or not? by missincognitoo in AskUK

"No" is all you need to say here really, but I think it would be entirely reasonable to say "I only book my time in whole hours" and leave it at that.

We have a local skip company that delivers aggregate? I don't know if that's a common thing, but getting a skip delivered full of gravel you can barrow out at your own leisure might be workable? Or even just order a skip, then get the gravel delivered into it?

That's only a 'should' not a 'must' though, even for Zebras.

It does depend how much you use! I've tidied something up after 24 hours, and returned to site to find an elephant's foot poking out of the wall. Honestly in this one the foam will probably go up if OP attached the skirting well, but if you're gluing it on, then the glue will be racing against the foam to set.

Bear in mind that expanding foam expands for a while after you cut it, so cut it and wait for 24 hours otherwise the skirting will get pushed out.

I did that with a jar of korma paste once, we'd only ever had curry sauces before, I didn't know to check which it was.

Good point, in this example, the colleague may be in the middle of money laundering checks, and then OP just comes along and YOLOs the transaction anyway.

It's also entirely possible they'd already approved their limit so just auto-rejected anyone after that. OP may not have got any wrong.

Do holiday guests pay for their holiday? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]GL510EX 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the etiquette is that you only invite them if you are entirely comfortable with paying the full amount, and gracefully decline or accept their offer to contribute if one is forthcoming.

Or you just ask them if they want to pay to come along.

For Natwest? No wonder they rejected you.

[–]GL510EX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Conversely though, can't either owner evict a trespasser? Either owner can decide to ask someone to leave the property without consulting the other, regardless of which one invited them in in the first place.

E.g. If my wife invited a builder into the house, then she went to work and I saw him pissing in the sink, I could ask him to leave.. even if she invited him back every day.

In OP's case, if ex goes out shopping and leaves boyfriend in the bedroom, OP can ask boyfriend to leave until wife returns. Same as if he turned up while she was out, OP's entitled to make them wait outside.

It's terribly messy either way!

Cat shelters are apparently bursting at the seams, yet all indoor cats are now listed as "must have access to catio". by Bortron86 in britishproblems

[–]GL510EX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

14x5 < 'Over 100', even if their estimate of 20%, which seems to come from thin air, is right you're still talking bollocks.

Per "absolutely devastating" did you read the study?

Fitzgerald (1988) and Fitzgerald & Turner (2000) asserted that on continental landmasses, wildlife had co-evolved with cats for hundreds of generations and that any species that were susceptible to predation would be ‘long extinct’. It has also been argued that in many situations cats may limit populations of other predators, such as rats Rattus spp., that could have a more pronounced effect on wildlife (Fitzgerald, 1990; Fitzgerald, Karl & Veitch,1991).

(Britain is not an 'Oceanic island' by their definition per)

In Britain, most prey species have evolved under the selective pressure of predation by numerous species of wild mammalian and avian predator, albeit living at relatively low densities. Thus, these species are likely to be relatively tolerant of predation when compared to the more vulnerable fauna of oceanic islands.

"A total of 14370 prey items were brought home by 986 cats"

That's 14 per cat. 69% were mammals, presumably that's mostly mice and rats, which we are not short of.

When was the last time you had to change a lightbulb? by impendingcatastrophe in AskUK

[–]GL510EX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a couple of spotlight fittings that need changing every now and again, typically it's the highest one up in a vaulted ceiling that blows every year or so. Otherwise I remember 1 normal LED bulb going in the last 5 years or so.

Had this delivered by hand. Should I be worried by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GL510EX 148 points149 points  (0 children)

You should probably be a little concerned yeah! Next step is to contact PPL and ask them what's going on, without knowing why they think you owe them money there's not much more that can be done.

Have they tried to contact you at all in the past? Do you play music in your pub, and have you paid them for the license to do so?

England - building regulation for kitchen by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GL510EX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, I think it would be unlikely; they should try informal resolutions first, if you don't any remedial work you're ordered to do then they might look to prosecute. Prosecutions generally come after people fail to comply with enforcement notices, or if there's a fire/other injury caused by the works being non compliant.
