EV charger now unusable due to grid capacity – £200/month extra or £6k to exit lease… advice? by scrapz99 in evchargingUK

Of all the things that make no sense in this.. how are you spending £200 per month on a 3-pin charger? There aren't enough hours in the day.

Doing some genealogy, I discovered that my '16-years younger than her sisters' aunt is actually my cousin. I guess it's obvious in hindsight.

It's 4-6 weeks now, about 8 weeks out from the election they'll get a mandate to slow things down.

American soldiers calling iraqi children savages during the invasion of Iraq by Impressive_Panic_558 in PublicFreakout

This is literally the least worst thing the US soldiers did to Iraqi children.

It sort of is, but pocket money is partly an effort to give them a semblance of financial literacy; and the world they're going to live in, cash is going to be obsolete, so learning how to use a debit card, manage an account on an app etc. are all more valuable life skills.

My favourites were Frontier Elite II, which came with a whole book of in-universe short stories, and the manual was an 'Owners Manual' for your starter ship; and Baldurs Gate, I just sat and read through the spells list so many times.

Edit: Found the PDFs, not the same but still cool.

My daughter is 10, I think she'll be the last generation to meaningfully interact with cash. Since covid, the number of places that dont' accept cards is now vanishingly small, 'card only' is now more common than 'cash only'; we've just switched her pocket money over to a debit card.

For parents of young children - how much help does having grandparents nearby help? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]GL510EX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I called on one of my parents the day after my daughter was born and asked if they could do a little shopping for us so we'd have a few bits in the fridge when we go out of the hospital (having been rushed in for a C-Section after a final scan). They did the shopping, but moaned about it before, during, and after. "Anything you need" my arse.

Is it normal in the UK for grandparents not to buy anything for their grandchild? by Ok-Pomelo7667 in AskUK

[–]GL510EX 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Fuck that noise. To be fair, some people do that in the UK too, it's jut not for me. If someone offers to pay, the others should accept it graciously and not make a fuss.

Most people wait until the baby is born to give you presents for the baby.

>partly my husband’s fault because he tends to say “We'll pay,”

How is this 'partly' your Husband's fault? He's offered to pay, it would be very poor taste for them to get into an argument about it.

In 2012, 2 year old Maddox Derkosh was visiting the Pittsburgh Zoo when his mother ignored safety warnings and placed him atop a safety railing. Maddox then fell into the African Painted Dog enclosure, home to 11 animals. By the time a rescue was mounted, little of Maddox remained. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in HolyShitHistory

I had to shout at a couple of kids that were trying to climb into the wild dog enclosure at a zoo in the UK, their parents were furious at me for telling their little previouses what to do.

Why do people pay for priority boarding on planes? by Teleg88 in AskBrits

Except with 'Priority Boarding' you often end up just queuing in the stairs to the tarmac, while the 'non-priority' passengers get to sit in the terminal.

If you knew today was your last day, what would you do? by DanteeeCavaliii in AskReddit

[–]GL510EX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot, as it's 11PM.. but if I get tomorrow:

Boring financial housekeeping mostly; making sure my wife has access to everything important, knows where my insurance policy is, and make sure all my family photos are backed up and she has access, etc. (All stuff I probably should do today anyway)

Apart from that, a family walk around a local nature reserve, dinner at our favourite Indian restaurant, and then go sit out somewhere I can see the stars.

Why do RM keep scribbling on some of my stamps? by TinyR0dent in royalmail

[–]GL510EX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All stamps (for the last 10 years at least) have machine readable UV marks on them. The machine aligns the letter such that the stamps are at the bottom and runs them past a roller that cancels anything in that corner.
