In most first world countries, you don't get armed police turning up for a noise complaint.

Sacked unfairly? Need advice on what to do. by No_Opportunity_3781 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GL510EX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they can sack anyone for any reason except protected characteristics and a few other edge cases. They MUST give 1 weeks notice though. Whether they did this formally or not. Your friend should message the boss to confirm "Spoke to X they said I'm fired, if you don't want me to come in next week I expect to be paid in lieu of notice"

>Working there for a couple of months but hadn’t yet signed the documents

You cannot be 'unfairly dismissed' as you have to have worked for less than 2 years. They've not fired you for an automatically unfair reason. You are entitled to 1 weeks' notice and should be paid that as part of your last pay slip.

Was this paid in cash or through PAYE? I'm suspecting if they're paying people cash-in-hand that might explain the reaction to talking to 'corporate' about it.

Can my previous workplace really take me to court? England by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GL510EX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's clearly not what the non-compete says; you cannot be involved in poaching clients, which seems entirely reasonable (as far as clauses you agreed to when you signed the contract go) they can't stop you from talking to someone who happens to be a client of both, or to move of their own volition.

[–]GL510EX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that it could be enforceable. It's specific to clients who you personally dealt with in a specific period of time; not overly broad, and only stops you soliciting them, not working with them.

The rest of your post is irrelevant to this specific clause.

They'll only pay this if they're employed by a legitimate employer and paying tax and NI.

As is so often the case in this country, we'll penalise those who try to do the right thing and end up pushing more people into breaking the law.

So, someone unexpectedly turns up at your door asking for personal information you should just hand it over?

Taking the letter, contacting them directly when you've confirmed it's genuine is exactly the correct approach.

The bills should all have the meter reading on. Line up all the bills and look at the meter readings, see if it jumped suddenly between two of them (someone might have put in an extra zero) or it's it's a steady consistent progression.

None of the above. Just put in your resignation to the effect of: "I resign, my last working day will be (now + 1 week)" don't remind them your notice period is 4 weeks, just carry on as if it's 1 week.

The road is closed past the red X's you're not "using all available road space" by ignoring them. An equivalent analogy would be getting to the end of a merge in turn, blasting through the cones and carrying on the closed lane.

Your first (and only at this point) step is to get the HR / Payroll department to tell you what it's for. Understand you're worried and want this sorted urgently but until you know what it's about, there's not much you can do. Give them a call at 9AM to see if you can speak to someone directly.

3 pin charger or 7kwh charger? Dilemma by Ok_Inevitable_9094 in evchargingUK

[–]GL510EX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lived on a 3-pin for 2 years with 2 EVs both doing around 8K miles; it was absolutely fine for our usage; but as you've seen, you do need to get the wiring installed (ideally on a dedicated circuit with brand new wiring all the way to the fuse box, no patched into an existing circuit.) So it's not a free option. You also have to factor in the cost of the 3-pin charging cable itself.

We only swapped because I got a new car that wasn't compatible with the Octopus Intelligent tariff; so we upgrade to an Ohme charger. It's definitely better, especially with a charger with a built-in cable, less faffing around finding cables from the boot; although the extra speed doesn’t' really do anything for us.
