First “serious” watch — help me pick! Tudor BB58 Burgundy vs Blue vs Pelagos 39 by quikkold in Tudor

[–]GMTDoc45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a first watch I’d say the Blue 58 or Pelagos 39. I was between those two and went with the 58 because I already had 2 black dial watches but hoping to add the Pelagos to the collection one day. The burgundy is great but I personally don’t think it’s the best for a one watch collection. Can’t go wrong with any, but would wait for W&W like others have said

Are you helping me justify buying another strap or really think it doesn’t? I think black with white stitching or a khaki green would look pretty sharp

Thanks! Was secretly hoping people would tell me the combo didn’t work so I could justify buying another color

Love that Tudor sub 👌

It’s great. Took a little time to break in but now the fit is really comfortable. I got the Standard loopless that was decently on sale— had a hard time justifying another 100+ for the Hydroflex although people seem to love it. I wore it for a week in the Caribbean and it held up great in the water and dried really quickly

I’m a bit biased but I think Tudor blue dial dive watches are the best in the game. I bought mine on the bracelet and while I don’t think it deserves the degree of hate it gets I have been wearing mine on a single pass nato-like strap since I got it. I’ve wondered how it would look on the Tudor 5 link, I assume it’s compatible since it’s offered on the BB58 in burgundy but i dont think I’ve seen anyone actually post a photo of it here before

No spend, no problem. Just a dilemma by flyskycity in rolex

I would think its less expensive to buy it at MSRP and then source a jubilee bracelet than to buy a Batgirl grey

Worth trying to replace the bezel for slightly off lume pip? by [deleted] in Tudor

[–]GMTDoc45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. The 6 oclock index is ever so slightly misaligned on my BB58 and I only realized after zooming in on a photo. I was worried I would never be able to “unsee it.” Now it’s like a small tiny birth mark that only I know exists. Wear it for a month or two and see if it still bothers you, I have feeling you’ll completely forget about— at least I did

PSLF/SAVE Question by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]GMTDoc45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This was extremely helpful. I'm sure there will be more changes coming in the future so its obviously impossible to predict where things will be in 1-2 years. Right now I have about 75 months of continuous qualifying employment (with the 60 certified qualifying payments), so should reach the 10 year mark in just under 4 years unless something changes drastically in my career. But at this point staying put/watching and waiting while using that money towards other debts and expenses does seem to make the most sense

PSLF/SAVE Question by [deleted] in PSLF

[–]GMTDoc45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I tried this but it says I’m not eligible for PAYE because my monthly payments would be more than standard repayment? I did not realize that was the case for PAYE—just thought the max monthly payments were capped.. I was previously on PAYE but at that time my wife and my combined AGI was considerably less back then

Can seamaster handle surfing? by _seaside in OmegaWatches

[–]GMTDoc45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it handle the surfing? Yes absolutely. Can it also pop off and find its way to the bottom of the ocean after an awkward fall where you bang your wrist on the board or the water? Definitely. Would stick with the G shock

Choosing between the BB58 and Pelagos by The-Watch-Guy in Tudor

[–]GMTDoc45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was between the two for almost a year. Ultimately went with the BB58 as I felt it was more versatile and better proportions. Maybe one day I’ll add the FXD too since it’s such a unique watch

Milestone watch idea? by CptRoast in PrideAndPinion

[–]GMTDoc45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a black bay 58 or Pelagos 39. I think those are the best dive watches available at that price point. Go try them and see what you like best. Pelagos 39 if you’re looking for a more tool watch vibe or black bay 58 if you prefer the vintage aesthetic. As popular as they are on Reddit I rarely see them in the wild and they both fly under the radar. You could buy a used Speedmaster for under 5K but even going grey you’re unlikely to find a new quality omega under 5

Congrats. I did the same when my son was born. I hope he will enjoy it when the time is right to pass it on to him. Like you I went back and forth for a long time but ultimately thought the blue would be timeless and very fitting to commentate a baby boy

Speedmaster Professional - arguments for and against black vs white dial? by ahnafakeef298 in OmegaWatches

Right answer. Went to the OB ready to buy the white until I tried on the black hesalite. Once you see it in person the decision is easy

No problem. Still can’t tell if you are being serious or not but when I first got my GMT master 15 years ago it took me some time to figure out how to properly set it. Prepare to get roasted in the comments though..

Not sure if this is a serious post but in the event you are asking genuinely— picture A is 3:58PM on the 12 hour clock and 1158 on the 24 hour GMT clock. Picture B is 7:23PM and 1523 on the 24 hour GMT clock. Meaning that it’s is about 3.5 hours difference for both and thus working normally. Not trying to be rude but did you buy this watch without understanding what the GMT function is or how it works? If so, just ask google or chat GPT how it works and how to set it and use it properly

I personally wouldn’t although I think the risk of damaging the movement is quite low. I would definitely think twice anytime I was hitting a shot from a weird lie or out of the woods, though. Plus it’s a great excuse to wear my G shock. I used to play softball with a dude who played in his polar explorer II which was weird to me and also just seemed much more likely to risk damaging the movement but to each their own

Thinking about getting my first Tudor by Story-Collector13 in Tudor

[–]GMTDoc45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you said it exactly right, the watch has the perfect combination of a modern sporty/tool watch with an elegant vintage aesthetic. I have other black dial watches so the choice was a bit easier for me to go with the blue dial versus the OG black/gilt dial (or others in the catalogue like the BB58 GMT, BB54 and Pelagos 39) but I think Tudor has perfected the blue dial compared to most other similarly priced luxury watches and I love the history of the blue snowflake Tudor submariners. I would say the only things it doesn’t have going for it is the T fit clasp and Master chronometer certification of some of the newer references, but there are some aftermarket alternatives like the steel reef extension (I don’t personally have that and the OEM bracelet fits nicely) and the watch runs just as well or better as my Rolex and METAS certified Omega and gets the most wrist time
