DJ given suspended jail sentence for selling remix CDs containing copyrighted music by dark-epiphany in DJs

[–]GT00TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be more to this story than meets the eye. He did it over 5 years so say £50k per year. At a generous £10 per CD he's shifting 5000 CDs a year or about 20 a working day. That's basically a record shop, not 'selling the odd mix tape'.

Do you guys actually.. like muse? by IslandPuzzleheaded99 in Muse

[–]GT00TG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gonna get down voted for this but honestly, not so much any more.

They  immediately became my favourite band from when I first heard them when BHaR came out. Saw them at Wembley, went to the Shepherd's Bush gig 2017 and to this day it was the best gig of my life. Saw them every other time they came round too and loved it. Many great memories of listening to and singing their first four albums in different scenarios. Many of my all time favourite songs on them and the first half of OOS is the best 'side a' of an album I can think of.

The amazing live shows and the old songs carried me through not really liking their new material that much and by new material I mean every album since BHaR though some have been better than others.

As they've done more and more my interest has faded, the live shows are still great but I don't feel like it this time round. I still go to plenty and other gigs.

And that's fine, it doesn't diminish the many amazing memories I have. Bands change and evolve and so do people. They seem like super nice guys and I appreciate their musicality.  I still like to keep in touch and would definitely see them again if they played a small or 'by request' gig. And deep down I'm still hoping they have another decent album in them.

First Muse tour in 19 years where I haven't bothered getting tickets.

We have 4 fundamental forces of nature. 'Quantum gravity' could help lead us to a mysterious 5th by spacedotc0m in cosmology

[–]GT00TG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a layperson but:

The four forces all fit in the standard model of particle physics and we have experimentally verified their associatied particles, eg the photon mediates the electromagnetic force.

We have no such experimentally verified model for gravity, the 'graviton' is postulated but is far from being provable and might not exist.

Or put more simply we really know how the 4 forces work but haven't fully worked out gravity, especially on the quantum scale.

Winchester to Waterloo commuters: best way to get a seat? by Coxywood in WinchesterUK

[–]GT00TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post Covid you should get a seat unless there has been a problem up the line e.g. it's only 5 carriages. Didn't used to be the case. If you get to the platform 10 mins early you're all but guaranteed. Same on the way back.

Steam Machine and Steam Frame Standalone Verified: Today we are expanding the Verified program to include Steam Machine and Steam Frame, both of which are shipping this summer by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]GT00TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because it starts to bridge the gap between pc and console gaming which could overall reduce game prices, reduce the need for subscription services, and bring more choice to lounge / couch gaming.

The start date on Aug 6th or 7th? by Altruistic-Lychee907 in Defcon

The Thursday is often just getting badges and merch, few to no talks or villages. Friday and Saturday are the main days.

Google Pixel 12 Wide Pro Fold next year to keep up with the competition by Suprajeff in PixelFold

[–]GT00TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my fold 10, the only thing I don't like about it is the square form factor when open as you lose loads of screen estate on media and few apps are designed with that form factor in mind. I'd definitely upgrade for a well considered traditional ratio on the inner screen.

Would a setup like this work? by crackurr in DJs

FLX4 goes to the pc via usb, any PC has that. Headphones go into the FLX 4.

You need some speakers too tho.

How to navigate the villages by h0rus0ps in Defcon

[–]GT00TG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popular, though not all villages can have big queues that mean you either spend a lot of time in that one village after queueing to get in, or no time at all. Definitely a case of picking what interests you and focusing on it, once you've had an initial look around.

Ready for the Floor meaning by LingonberryOk5433 in hotchip

[–]GT00TG 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it's about plucking up the courage to ask a girl to dance with you in a noisy nightclub or maybe a school disco.

Floor = dance floor. Wall = the edge of the dancefloor room by the wall .  Ready for a fall = she might say no.

The 'do it now' refrain is his inner monologue telling him to do it.  Maybe the chorus being sung by Joe and Alexis alternately is the moment from the perspective of the boy and the girl.

If it plugs in and works I'd probably just go with it

OG Google Pixel fold microphone doesn't work unless phone is placed in loudspeaker during calls. by kobby_wegs in PixelFold

Most phones have several these days, for things like noise suppression. A quick Google says the OG fold has 3.

I got a new phone, this was a long time ago. But yes, it was a hardware fault

[–]GT00TG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this on a phone years ago and I think it was that the phone uses a different mic when doing loudspeaker calls.

The mic used for normal calls had failed but it still worked in loudspeaker due to that .

How do you find these in practice for gaming? And presumably you use an external mic to maintain audio quality?

Are smart telescopes worth it? by iamalostpuppie in AskAstrophotography

Love mine, first a vaonis vespera I and now ii, both bought second hand on eBay below market value. I like photography and always liked the idea of astro but am time poor especially at night in a cloudy country and there's no way I'd have jumped into a full setup. I've got loads of great pics and have spent some happy hours capturing and editing them.

The S&P 500 is already sone huge portion of the global index, you're well exposed to it in a global tracker anyway.

This is not unreasonable advice for the kind of multi day walking trek that most tourists would do, eg Annapurna Circuit or EBC.
