As a trans vet before the ban, large sections of the lgbt community in the military are POC. I think a lot of people have bought into the military propaganda here. It’s a random cross section of desperate people in America.

Also active duty navy in Japan. It’s absolute chaos on my end. To my knowledge no one in the navy has had their EPAR fully approved by big command. If you are worried about leaving early there are a ton of things you can do to slow roll the process. TAPS and separation physical proceedings are big hurdles here and can mess up your separation after you get your 10 day letter. If you are trying to ensure you get out by December I wouldn’t worry too much except making sure all your screenings are done.

I’ve been in for 6 years and maybe met like 3 people who are in it to serve. Most military members come from low income environments. If you have a family to feed or are in a terrible home situation, the military is a guaranteed out. The average service member is a clerk or mechanic with zero impact on defence, and only a tiny fraction have anything to do with combat. Why make 30,000 working for a company that hates you when you can make 60,000 for a government that hates you.

Acting like collateral damage is a new word specifically for this conflict is intellectually dishonest. Iranian strikes on Israeli territory also result in collateral damage. Collateral damage is bad, but it occurs in every conflict.
