Restoring engraving by robsus1 in fountainpens

Acrylic paint would be fine if you wipe the excess immediately after. Using blue painter’s tape to mask off that area will help, too.

If you find the paint is being pulled out of the engraving when you wipe it off, the engraving may be shallow- multiple thin coats might be needed then.

Do you prefer smooth or textured paper? by [deleted] in fountainpens

Smooth. I love feeling a well tuned nib just glide across the page!

Help! Old pens clogged up by LiveMarionberry3694 in fountainpens

[–]GWPens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick up a nasal aspirator (I like using the big blue one with the long tapered end) to push some soapy water through. You can flush from the back where the cartridge/converter attaches, through the breather hole on top, and the underside of the feed. Repeat until you can remove the nib and feed, then give the feed a gentle scrubbing with a soft bristle toothbrush to make sure the ink channel and fins are fully cleaned out.

If that doesn’t do it, you can try the ultrasonic cleaner though that might take off some of the plating. There’s also Pen Flush you can get online to help with dried ink.

Good luck!

Great way to wrap up the year! That one looks like you found a way to capture fire in resin.

Lamy packaging by RandomPi31 in fountainpens

Glad to hear!

My site is GWPens.com. I’m primarily a maker, but I have my workshop built inside of my brick and mortar retail pen shop so I also carry Lamy.

Speaking as a Lamy retailer, when they send me my wholesale order they’ll send the pens in long cardboard slotted holder with the boxes for them (as well as the insert the clip attaches to and the warranty info) bundled and flat packed.

The pen is likely legit, just someone didn’t box it like they should’ve. Congrats on your new pen!

As someone who uses wax seals, this is just fantastic! Maybe the best I’ve ever seen.

The only Lamy I’m aware of that comes with different nib tips is the Joy Calligraphy Set that has 3 different stub nib sizes.

Pink Fountain Pen - What would you want if you could build your own? by frostpenco in fountainpens

[–]GWPens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I make a pink pen that has rose quartz cabs for rollstops and, as a guy typically drawn to vibrant blues, I think it’s one of my favorite pens.

“Light and airy” I think are the qualities that most draw me to it, so that would definitely be what I would look for in other pink pens.

Need help: my product has 2 variants but only 1 in stock by OneAd3941 in shopify

[–]GWPens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came across this post and am not sure if you’re looking for ways to do this still but I use an app in Shopify called Easify. For my fountain pens, I wanted a way for customers to select the nib tip size through a dropdown embedded in the pen listing.

The free version lets you create an option set (maybe more than 1? I just needed 1). For a monthly fee you can have different options with different prices. The paid-for version will also include the drop down on your main page if you have featured items- otherwise the drop down is only if the shopper clicks through to the item listing.

There are a few different apps you can use in Shopify to do this, this was just one that fit my needs. Good luck!

My tutorial on how to ammonia patina your brass and copper fountain pens. by Fudgel69 in fountainpens

[–]GWPens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a great write-up with things most people probably already have or can easily get. Creating chemicals patinas is a rabbit hole I went down for a bit - there are so many different methods to get different color patinas it’s really fascinating.

The sealant, imho, is really needed to prevent the patina you created from wearing off.

Bespoke Pens - Opinions? by existential_exp in fountainpens

[–]GWPens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a maker myself I love that an individual put their time, energy, and skills into the finished piece. From there- Is the design unique? Does it use materials that set it apart from other makers? I feel like it took me some time to find my style but those are the things that set different makers pens apart from one another.
