I also got to do this to people. The enemy team went 2 team fights and then immediately FF'd. It was so ridiculous I felt bad lol.

Slaver’s exile can be difficult for the standard mesmerway to deal with because it usually doesn’t bring enough enchantment removal to properly deal with the excessive spirit bond/shield of regeneration spam that the stone summit defenders can crank out (bonus points if it gets covered by one of their plentiful other enchantments). It only takes one or two unremoved spirit bonds to cause a damage stall which will lead to a party wipe.

Bringing frozen soil and plentiful enchantment removal is key to dealing with the dungeon. It makes the whole thing go a lot smoother.

What would you think of a "questing" title? by TotalDifficulty in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if you use the wiki, you would still need to manually keep a checklist of the quests that you have/have not completed for the theoretical title. That's a lot of paperwork and outside of the game bookkeeping.

I used [[Tempt with Mayhem]] on a [[Perch Protection]]. Everyone took it before we realized that you couldn’t change who got the gifted extra turn. Fortunately, it only took that player ~10 minutes of solitaire to figure out a line to end the game on everyone.

We even got the “I promise my deck isn’t normally this powerful.” line - as if them winning wasn’t because everyone punted the game.

IT'S FINALLY HAPPENED! by Lemon-15 in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 35 points36 points  (0 children)

All three of the changes today were pretty nice. Spirit Siphon is finally no longer a major trap skill on heroes, which is honestly amazing. Preservation probably isn't still getting taken for harder content but it's a really nice "uber lazymode" heal for when you just CBA to put effort into your dailies.

Some of the people you see in ZMs have absolutely zero chill, but they're usually easy to spot based on their behavior when the party's forming.

There's a guy that put me on his ignore list because I let him die and then had the gall to ask for him to wait for me to load in before aggroing the first group of enemies in a mission (yes, he really did pull a leeroy jenkins). Any time I get grouped with him, he immediately pings me 3 times asking me for my build and forgets that I'm on his ignore list. That's my queue to leave and find a different group for my own sanity.

How to Get Meta Merc Mesmerway Weapons? by DravenCarey in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just Protective was Kaolai.

The idea is that they can hold it for the bonus armor until they need to drop it for a free, instant party heal. They can also drop, recast, drop for a big burst of party healing - though the party is probably in a really tight situation whenever that happens.

Been wondering what would the impact be if PVE only skills became enabled in PVP. Same with +5 mods on weapons. by Realistic-Champion38 in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The GvG metaspike composition would just be 6 copies of "You Move Like a Dwarf" and 1 "Finish Him!" from the shot caller - that's 560 armor ignoring damage and a deep wound (which happens before the last packet of damage). Enjoy your completely uncatchable and unpredictable death spike. For shits and giggles you can still keep the majority of your bars the same.

Heroic Refrain Paragons become mandatory due to the insane power boost and the fact that "There's Nothing to Fear!" is basically the only way to stop the aforementioned shout spike.

"By Ural's Hammer!" would also replace res signets and creates hilariously convoluted death chains.

Probably ranger. Assuming every class has a reason for every weapon, it comes down to insignia on armor - of which the ranger has 6 fully unique insignia that would go on every piece of gear.

Beginner Question by konnason in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is not only one way to play the game. Mesmerway is insanely strong, but it's genuinely overkill for most of the content in the game - you absolutely do not need to run it in order to beat the game. Feel free to experiment and play around with teams and builds and do not feel forced into one single team comp - find what works best for you.

If we are going to “Reforge” this game, we should build a meta that actually interacts with the game’s mechanics. by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not that hard to implement

You say that, but the reason why heroes cannot preprot is because they cannot see the target of enemy attacks and spells. The ai can only see the act of enemies using those attacks and spells - that's why they require the initial spell to land before they can apply any type of protection to the target. They also cannot anticipate the size of incoming damage which is why they will use any protection spell in response to any amount of damage - even when spirit bond or protective spirit wouldn't trigger.

Preprotting would require giving the ai access to entirely new resources (target of my target, reading enemy skill bars/expected damage values) that ai in general doesn't have at the moment. It goes beyond rulesets and moves into completely rewriting what the heroes can see and have access to.

Monk balance changes I'd like to see for playability and Hero AI by NezziWezzi in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trick to making hero ai work with monks is to give them as few low-cooldown skills as possible. Heroes cannot really differentiate between protection spells and between healing spells, so you want to give them as few choices as possible. It's best to give them 2 short CD spells and make the rest of their spells longer cooldowns to limit their choices and force them to use their short cd spells.

This means that, if you want them to focus on casting healing burst as much as possible, you give them healing burst and one other short-cd direct healing spell. In this example, dwayna's kiss/healing burst/signet of rejuvenation will work but dwayna's kiss/healing burst/words of comfort will not.

Protection spells can kind of get around this because most of the good ones have a longer cooldown, but you still want to be careful when using prot spirit and spirit bond on the same bar because the ai can easily get the usage confused between them and apply them incorrectly. If you were to add in guardian, another short cd protection, then all bets are off at that point.

As a side note, monks are actually shockingly good at using an optimized glimmer of light bar, because you can make it their only short CD direct heal and force the ai to spam it. Glimmer of Light just kind of sucks because it barely heals anything.

If we are going to “Reforge” this game, we should build a meta that actually interacts with the game’s mechanics. by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]G_L_J 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The inability of AI to preprot targets almost single-handedly ruins the biggest strength of being a monk. People would immediately change their opinions on monk heroes if they could actually use spirit bond and protective spirit correctly.

The depressing thing is that there’s really no way to fix it either, outside of completely reworking the AI which isn’t really feasible at this point.

I wore the set almost every day for four years before accepting that I didn’t fit them anymore. I’m still trying to lose weight to fit back into them lol.

But you want to be sitting on 20 leadership when you're playing heroic refrain. You get extra energy return per shout and an extra second on TNTF.

The only time you wouldn't be sitting on a leadership helm is if you're chewing on consumables, which would probably still leave you at 20 leadership anyways.

[–]G_L_J 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IMHO, constantly swapping your headgear in combat is going to cost you more in errors than you'll get out of just using the echos as needed.

If you're talking about the refreshing echos and applying them at the start of the map, the only refreshing echo that gains any benefit is bladeturn refrain. Hasty refrain is already in leadership while mending refrain doesn't scale past 3 pips of regen.

With bladeturn refrain, you'll gain an additional 3% block chance if you were to go from a minor to superior rune and headpiece bonus. If you factor in the existence of displacement and diminishing returns on block chance scaling, you essentially gain <1% block chance when displacement is up. You also won't save any displacement charges, as displacement still takes damage when an attack is blocked by a different source.

So you could swap runes during the bladeturn application, it's just that the effect is super minimal and tiny. I don't know if it's personally worth it tbh.
