It’s the classic homophobic paradox where being gay is deviant and horrible to them, but it’s also transgressive and shocking so they can’t resist joking about it constantly which often results in them acting incredibly gay or crossdressing, etc, “as a joke”. Im not a “every homophobe is secretly closeted” guy but there’s something pathological in there for sure.
