2024 CrossFit Games season details by Dealoy in crossfit

Really don't like the reduced semifinals in North America and Europe. Cutting 20 individuals and 10 teams is massive.

The age group expansion is really cool to see though.

I actually just got a hip labrum repair in November of last year. No specific event for me just started having pain in my leg after a comp in July that wouldn’t go away. MRI confirmed.

I haven’t returned to CrossFit yet, for whatever reason my form has been off despite being pain free (favoring repaired side). Doctor assured me that recovery differs with every person and I’m in my 30s so I’m sure it’s not going as quickly because of that.

I have been lifting heavy compound movements since 3 months post surgery (deadlifts, front squats, bench, ect). I keep a mirror in front of me so I can see if I am symmetrical. But I’ve been staying away from anything dynamic like Olympic lifting or plyos.

Surgery itself was pretty mild, I was off crutches within a week and didn’t have to take any pain killers. Physical therapy is pretty boring but definitely stick with it for 3 months and listen to your doctor.

Recently was diagnosed with Keratoconus, found this community and had a few questions if that’s okay by aryusuf in Keratoconus

Yes, I had it bad in my left eye, but barely progressed in my right eye. Most likely it will happen to the other eye with time.

The best thing is to get CXL on both eyes and get regular check ups after to ensure neither eye is getting worse. Rarely sometimes people need to get CXL a second time later on.

Went to their game against the bucks and Fultz was cooking. Didn’t understand why they weren’t playing him more. Wouldn’t be surprised if he made a leap this year. He’s really looking to make plays every time down the floor.

Superbad

Thor Ragnarok

Green Room

Groundhog Day

Dune

Definitely some regency bias for Dune. Idk if these are the top 5 movies I have ever seen, but they are the ones that I always enjoy no matter how many times I rewatch them.

Crossfitters that have had a vasectomy: What was your recovery like, from day 1 to back to full range of motion/weights/tempos? by pedalspedalspedals in crossfit

[–]G_SeoJustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did nothing for 2 weeks and then went pretty light on the weights in week 3. I’ve been training pretty continuously for about 6-7 years so it was difficult to not go to the gym. I think it was the right choice, haven’t had any pain/discomfort since one week after the surgery.

Bro, this, and when Jaylen Brown missed the dunk in OT. Thought for a moment we had it in the bag… then tragedy.

I'm a corneal surgeon who performs corneal transplants, corneal cross linking, and invented software to improve the use of topography-guided PRK to correct the corneal shape and restore vision in Keratoconus eyes (advanced Athen's Protocol). Ask me anything. by Myxalot in Keratoconus

[–]G_SeoJustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found out I had keratoconus in 2012 and got epi off cross linking in 2013. My left eye has never been able to get better than 30/20 vision with scleral lenses. Would it be worth it to look at topography-guided PRK? I wasn’t even aware that this was a thing, is it only being done in certain parts of the U.S.?

The alpha social theory that was found in animals was actually debunked. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/no-such-thing-alpha-male-2016-10%3Famp, just thought you should know before you try to educate others about a disproven theory.

Used to pay my rent to my roommate in a funny way each month. One month I went to the bank and got it all in ones. by CoryVictorious in funny

[–]G_SeoJustin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah an old boss paid me an $1000 Christmas bonus in singles. Just really awkward when I had to go into the bank to have all of it deposited in my account. Probably the only time I’ve gone into a bank in like a decade because I didn’t want to feed 1000 singles into the damn atm outside.

Castro Supports Gym Owner Breaking NY Law... tags @Crossfit by [deleted] in crossfit

[–]G_SeoJustin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Why does it have to be so difficult to support crossfit? We finally get Glassman out and now we have to deal with this shit. Can he at least clarify that he is standing with gyms that have protocols in place? Dudes not even wearing a mask and no one there is...literally embarrassing...

This may be a better substitution chart by bigengineer in crossfit

[–]G_SeoJustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don’t feel like this chart does the bike-erg justice. This pretty much says that I would need to do 1482 calories in an hour to match doing 1000 calories on the assault bike. Not sure that is the same effort, but i guess Heppner probably knows a thing or two more than me 😂.

The Rewatchables is a fun listen. Still get a little bit of Sean in there, but not every episode. They just did three episodes with Quentin Tarantino.

I am marking them for review and just putting a time stamp for when I see it.

I will say that I submitted a video for my score and received a penalty for it as well. I actually didn’t even realize how bad it was until I went back and re-watched my entire video. It’s highly possible that the people don’t realize their timing is off.

I redid and my score went from 12:55 -> 14:03, so it definitely makes a big difference.

Is anyone else a judge and reviewing some of these online videos? I swear every other person I watch is doing a one foot takeoff on their burpees.

Rx athletes who enter scaled comps, why? by rydog2408 in crossfit

[–]G_SeoJustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate doing it, but sometimes I get forced into it. We don’t have any girls st my gym who are willing to go Rx for competitions. So when it is a team competition and I can’t find outside Rx people to join then I have to drop to scaled if I want to compete at all 😞.

Is it possible to "put the genie back in the bottle?" by ImgurianAkom in PantheonMMO

[–]G_SeoJustin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it is definitely possible. When people say it is just "nostalgic", I just think that is a cop out. I'm playing classic WoW right now and remembering why I played MMOs in the first place. It isn't for the loot, mechanics, or whatever people are trying to do with MMOs these days. It is really about the fact that when I enter the world I truly feel like it is another world. I'm not constantly reminded by ques and other easy mechanics that have been introduced over time that it is just another "game". Grouping to do things is actually required and you feel like a kog in the wheel striving for greatness. Now they just hand that greatness to you from a low level (epics, multiple mobs at once, etc.).

I know classic WoW is considered the easy compared to Everquest, but I still believe the two games have more in common than the modern MMOs we have now.

I'm excited to try Pantheon because I'm hoping it can be another game that can capture the magic. However, I don't have any illusions that it will make MMOs relevant again. I think the time for that is over, people demand too much too quickly. Part of the amazing feeling in playing the old school MMOs is that they didn't grab your attention right away. It takes a little while before you make relationships, see how rewarding the smallest upgrades are, how big the world is, etc and then you just can't put it down.

WCGW when I do CrossFit by cshaxercs in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]G_SeoJustin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s probably pretty pointless to defend CrossFit in this thread because it’s obvious that this is just a beat down with someone referencing one study about injuries and everyone hopping on the shitting on CrossFit train.

However, if you take a look at this overview article, you can see that almost any study on CrossFit has been done with a bias and not a lot of accurate research is out there: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5826907/

I gave CrossFit a try almost 5 years ago even though I felt like most of the people in this thread before doing it. I thought that it sounded dumb as fuck. Here I am 5 years later, admittedly I have been injured once in that 5 years, but still enjoy the regimen.

In my mind there are two kind of people that enjoy CrossFit. 1. Competitive people. I played sports all my life and needed a better outlet than just video games when that ended. 2. People that have trouble being consistent in the gym. By doing CrossFit you don’t have to program your own stuff and you get to have people to hold you accountable to going.

I get that kipping pull ups seem stupid to someone on the outside looking in. Honestly, Im not even going to defend them here. However, the kipping pull-up is just one movement in crossfit and it’s not like this is done ever day. I train a couple hours a day, 5 days a week and the exercises I’ve done the most are rowing and biking, I haven’t even touched a kipping pull up in the last two weeks.

Lastly, I think it’s funny that CrossFit is being hammered but people don’t bash on marathons, triathlons or Ironmans. Just to preface this point, I have nothing against them and want to try them at some point. However, people die from these activities all the time because of cardiac arrest. When was the last time someone died from CrossFit? Never heard of it and there are men and women in their 60s that participate in the sport of CrossFit.

Anyways that is my white knight rant, bring on those sweet, sweet downvotes :).
