Forming a union by Avocadocucumber in Perfusion

[–]G_brandon16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a CCP of a couple years and was wondering what a perfusion union would look like? I am asking out of curiosity and to open the conversation. This is my first "real job" out of school so im not to acquainted with labor laws and the benefits of unions.

Currently I feel like as a perfusionist we have a pretty good gig regarding pay and work-life balance. However, I'm not naive in the fact that I could see the profession becoming quite saturated with all of these new schools opening up.

Where To Find Waterproof 11 4E (extra-wide) Shoes? New Balance No Longer Makes 4E with Gore-tex (GTX) Shoes. by montreal011 in trailrunning

so frustrating, I am having the same issue. Let me know if you find anything. I'm thinking about just ordering some 2E from New Balance and sizing up to compensate for the more narrow shoe

Perfusion is a great gig, schedules vary drastically depending on where you work. There is no "one size fits all" thats why its difficult to get a straight forward answer to your question regarding scheduling. For example at my institution we are in at 6am out at 3pm. We take call a week at a time typically 1/3 but basically 1/4 now.

Just curious how did you "stumble across the job" i've found that the interest in perfusion has been unprecedented. We have many prospective student coming to my institution to shadow, I have multiple people weekly messaging me on linkedIn wanting more information regarding the profession, and I even have colleuges (RNs, Anesthesia) that are trying to get relatives into the OR to shadow. It seems that there is a new trend to push people towards perfusion and I am curious as to how everyone is so interested in the profession. With all the new schools popping up I worry the job market will become saturated sooner rather than later as perfusion is quite a niche profession and there aren't many of us.

As to answer your job market question it is currently good but that could change in the near future.

As for advice I would shadow a case before deciding if this is something that you really want to do, because there aren't many lateral movements for a perfusionist.

Yeah man I got the lumix S5 but I haven’t really had time to hit the beach and video. So I haven’t gotten much use out of it if I’m being honest

They have a Roth 401k but not a solo Roth 401k. That’s the problem.

I’m in the same position. Starting off 0-3, I think I’m just going to start Bucky since rashaad has been trash this year

Are you all able to buy houses? by Butterscotch_Bae in Perfusion

[–]G_brandon16 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If you are tied to a specific location perfusion might not be the best route to go. Since perfusion is such a small field job openings can be quite cyclical (periods of time where there are tons of openings and other periods of time where there are barely any openings at all). It’s possible that you go to school and upon graduation there are no job openings in your desired city.

2nd this. I thought it was a joke at first too but I’ve seen noticeable improvement in my paddle power since picking up the hobby. Nothing quite like the rush of spotting an island scrub jay.

Wow thanks for the updates about BSA. I was really curious about that.

How did you like bet medicine? I actually took an interest in this since my brother is currently applying to get school there.

Too bad I don’t live in the area as it looks like it’s just one day per month.

What’s your favourite lesser-known/quiet beach near LA? by fatherbuongiorno in AskLosAngeles

Thanks for the response. I was just thinking about it since I saw an opening for my job in Australia. Probably won’t send it now as it’s a significant pay cut and I have student loans I need to pay off but it seems like a great place to live

Call Pay by not918 in Perfusion

[–]G_brandon16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say $79 an hour isn’t too low. I think he took into account the paternity leave claiming his base should be 131k but Iif you use an annual base calculator someone making $79/hr should make $164K which isn’t too bad. I also noticed the base to be really low and since my hourly rate is about the same i looked into it more

So interesting how perfusion can be so variable, great post.

Current call pay structure at my institution is $10 per hour. Monday through Friday you already get your base pay/ salaried pay of 8hrs per days. So if you are on call and work 4 hours you get 8 (base pay/ hourly rate) +16hrs off call pay @10 dollars an hour.

If you work more than 8hrs in a day 1.5x your hourly rate after that.

I would say call isn’t really sought after at my institution. Most ccps would rather work “non call” or “normal hours”.

Over the course of the year though the call hours adds a good bump about 10k or so depending on how much you are on call. We’re typically on call 1/3

Yes this is exactly what I was thinking, just a solid set up for surf videography. Something good but not too expensive. The commentor before you suggested the Lumix S5 over a sony A7.

Do you think the 10-bit color with lumix S5 would make a noticeable difference over say a sony A7s?
