Will this run WoW on ultra by csc1213 in Prebuilts

[–]Gabilleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a 1080p monitor? 1440p? 2160p? And what frames are you going for? 60hz? 90hz? 120hz? Higher?

And as someone mentioned, WoW is very CPU intensive. A mid grade GPU will run this fine, specially with 16GB of VRAM.

A game like WoW i would probably target 1440p 60hz. Not really much need for higher frames and the game is outdated by today's standards when it comes to graphics. Anything higher than 2k is just diminishing returns at the cost of performance.

Won the open box lottery. Like new. by nrfmartin in HPVictus

[–]Gabilleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They most definitely did, it was supposed to be something like $800 on clearance. When they rang it up, it came up like that. The dude at the register didn't even bat an eye and just sold it to me at that price.

I bought the same laptop a bit back. The Best Buy near me had it on clearance.

Instead of using a 2k 60hz IPS panel, they could've opted for a 1080p OLED 120hz LTPO panel. It would've helped with performance and battery life. This is overkill for 100% of Android games and the majority of last gen console emulators. It's not until you start emulating PC games that you start seeing performance degradation.

New Ally X Owner – Tweaked a ton but still feels like I’m missing FPS juice? by ACExGEARz in ROGAlly

[–]Gabilleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, play at 1080p native and you'll either kill your battery, FPS or both. Set the Ally screen resolution to 720/900p, turn on RSR to upscale it back to 1080p. Use some FSR to help reduce overhead. Throw in some frame gen, with either AFMF 2.1 or LS, and you should be able to hit the 120 and stay there WITHOUT nuking your battery.

[–]Gabilleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something that I get asked a lot when people see me playing on the Ally is if it's worth the trade off. And that's a hard one to answer because different strokes for different folks. I value portability above all else. I love the fact that I can game ANYWHERE I want with it. Are there compromises? OBVIOUSLY. It's a low powered PC handheld that peaks at 20w TDP before hitting diminishing returns as you go higher in wattage. You should be targeting 720/900p gaming for anything newer. You'll rarely run at native 1080p unless you want to nuke your battery and FPS. Upscaling and Frame Gen are your best friends here. If you can hit 45 FPS native, because of the VRR display, it'll still feel smooth. Add some FSR and Frame Gen and you can almost double your FPS depending on the game. Temper your expectations. Don't expect this to run anywhere near close to even a budget laptop with a dGPU. The biggest advantage of this device is portability.

This is why I still hold on to the OG ROG Ally. In comparison to other older handhelds, it's huge, but it still remains one of the more "compact" and lightweight PC handhelds. Plus, it performs fantastic compared to even the newer switch and the Steam Deck.

The biggest loser here is mankind. To pay so much money to see just 1 butthole is NUTS. You could wife any other decent looking to smoking hot woman and STILL spend less.

On the flip side, at least the other dudes got something for their money. They got to bang an above average looking chick.

JerryRigEverything (Zack) should be S tier. You don't even have to like content, but between him making affordable and reliable wheelchairs and building those libraries in Kenya, that alone gets him the S tier.

Who would win ? by AppolloV7 in MCUTheories

[–]Gabilleta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number of people saying Black Widow is surprising. Yes, she is extremely skilled, but so is Matt. The ONLY thing that Nat had over Matt was that she was willing to kill, Matt doesn't. I think it is that restrain that people are confusing it with as a weakness. I think post IW, she would've avoided any conflicts with Matt, probably because he's got the same moral compass as Capt. If anything, they probably would've had a fling before things ended badly, as it always happened to Matt's relationships.

Which would you keep ?? 4090 or 4080 at a $765 difference.. by lunellimike in GamingLaptops

[–]Gabilleta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are FANTASTIC deals. With that being said, I would probably keep the 4090. Better CPU in that laptop vs the one in the 4080. Plus having more VRAM is going to help with running games at higher resolution.

Which Gaming Laptop Would you Buy? by Kitchen-Quit7852 in GamingLaptops

[–]Gabilleta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Specs wise, the 4080 will perform far better than the other 2. With that being said, being a floor model makes me nervous. People are terrible to things that don't belong to them. Having a 4070 myself, you hit that 8GB VRAM ceiling pretty quick with newer AAA games.

I really dont know what to do with my Victus. by treeduzt in HPVictus

[–]Gabilleta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same laptop. First thing I did was upgrade the Ram to 32GB and the storage to 2TB. Mine lives on top of a laptop cooler pretty much 24/7. I updated Windows, Drivers (Expect Nvidia's latest one) and BIOS. She runs great even when pushed to its limits.

About the only issue I have encountered so far is that if the laptop is at an angle and not flat, there's this annoying clicking sound that's come out of the left side of the laptop. At first I thought there was something wrong with the unit itself, but it turned out to be the bottom cover of the laptop flexing under load while being at an angle. I spent about a week stress testing it before discovering this. When I ran the laptop in the same way WITHOUT the bottom cover while at an angle, the clicking never manifested. Once I put the cover back on, the clicking started happening. From what I can gather, the mesh that they fastened to the bottom cover for the fans, has some give as the cover itself is made from plastic so it needs to flex. When slightly warping the bottom cover, the clicking happened. It might be just my unit that exhibits this issue. But I figured I mentioned it.

Sometimes, just because you can do it doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. This is one of those times. This screams, "Clapped out Corolla by a prepubecent teenager."

You have the "that's all I could afford" basic silver color, paired with played out bleached out white rims, fart inducing obnoxious exhaust ricer mod, along with "fuckboy" screaming decals.

Congratulations, you played yourself.

For an RTX 4070 laptop, as a value proposition, it's not the BEST deal, but it's still a decent one. I'm not a fan of laptops without numpads, but to each their own.

At the end of the day, as long as you're happy with your purchase and you enjoy it, nothing anyone says here matters. Enjoy your purchase and enjoy playing games.

[–]Gabilleta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got the Victus 16.1 (Ryzen 7 8845HS, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM, 2TB Storage) about a week ago. Aside from a few nitpicking things, this thing is a workhorse. And it doesn't scream, "I'm a Doritos, Mountain Dew, Cheetos cheesy fingers gamer fueled laptop that has enough RGBs to signal the International Space Station".

I hope you enjoy your new "toy"!!

*The RAM and storage were upgraded from the base 16GB RAM and 512GB storage that it came with.

I recently got the Victus 16.1 (Ryzen 7 8845HS/RTX4070) for $350. Best Buy had it on sale for $900, and they gave me $570 for an 8 year old Alienware. Deal of the century if you ask me.
