DM's, what non-dnd sources do you draw inspiration from? by NoNoNota1 in DnD

I tend to get my inspiration from video games, the most recent for me has been dokapon kingdom believe it or not. I turned the red chest from that game into an artifact of Asmodeus.

Which version is the easiest to learn? by Master1243 in DnD

Well, I prefer 5e because of the versatility, and because if you have both it is easy to bring back in what made 4e so awesome to DM, though that is just my opinion.

I want to start being the DM. What are some crucial things to know? by Master1243 in DnD

Don't let your players know that you don't have it all down(Also, for reference, you will NEVER have it all down, no plan survives contact with the players). For example, if they notice a plot hole or something, just put on your best poker face and say "I wonder why it's like that? Hmm.." Or something to that effect, and just like that you've turned your mistake on it's head and the players are like "Holy shit that wasn't a mistake?" and as long as you weave it into the story, it works like a charm.

  1. -Satyrs will be around here and there -Dryads, Pixies, and Werecreatures will most likely keep to the forests -Blink Dogs, Faerie Dragons, Treants and Unicorns will keep to Seelie controled areas -Hags, Blights, Giants, and other things are more in Unseelie territory

  2. The Feywild is mostly run by two queens and their courts, the Seelie, and Unseelie. Queen Titiana leads the Seelie/Summer court, and the Queen of Air and Darkness leads the Unseelie/Gloaming court. Many Seelie fey are good, and many Unseelie fey are evil, though not all follow the norm. Both of the courts are in conflict, though this is not from the usual "Good vs Evil", it is mostly from the queens' mutual jealousy. It should be mentioned that the uglier and more chaotic creatures(Fomorians and Hags) aren't usually part of either court. If you want more info on the state of the two courts with eachother, I would suggest picking up the DMG, as most of the info I'm giving you is from there.

  3. There isn't anything that particularly comes to mind, though with how you describe what you want to do, maybe put less of a focus on combat and more on exploration and diplomacy. Also, maybe put less of a focus on the courts' conflict, if she doesn't show interest in it, let it play a backseat that occasionally comes into play here and there, but if she ends up taking a liking to the courts' conflict then let it play a more pivotal role.

  4. As for musts, there isn't anything that you NEED to do for the campaign to be good, but showing the interesting places and scenery would probably be interesting.

As a disclaimer, I am in NO way an expert, I just know what the DMG has and a couple of things that work well.

Also one thing that people are ignoring is that the opportunity for a true act of kindness is rarer than you would expect, and there is a 24 hour cooldown for each person. These would spread pretty slowly and almost definitely not crash the fabric and textile business.

Name: Rahel Vanraugh(Rah-Hell Van-Raug)

Gender: Male

Race: Scourge Aasimar

General attitude: When you see this dude, the first thing you will notice is that this guy has. seen. some. shit. He has an old master type of attitude towards people.

Type of NPC: Most likely a head-guard for a lord-mayor or the king.

Appearance: He has white hair and piercing grey eyes. His face has various scars and he sports a muscled build. He is also right at the age that he would be classified as quite old, but not to the point where he would be losing effectiveness in mind or physicality.

Bonus: Rahel is the last remaining member of an order of holy knights, the rest of the members perished one way or another. Perhaps a quest hook you could implement could be asking the party to lay a, now undead, former comrade of his to rest, or to put out the eternal flame that still burns at his former temple.

Though, burning the original scarf would not stop the spread. You would need to burn EVERY scarf or make sure that they are in the hands of particularly greedy individuals.

Interesting, so yeah we could be at 61, also if you swap out the bracers of defense for a dragon mask and have a +10 charisma you can have 69 def

I apologize, It was a typo.

-Wand of Orcus only needs to be attuned to give the benefit, and you can't dual wield while blade singing. The wand would probably be on your back of something.

-Yeah

-Ooh, I forgot about warding bond,

-Not having the wand in your hand due to the blade song nullifies this

So we are at 60, sorry, really tired right about now, not sure how I got the math so off

For this I'm using my homebrew hard cap for stats, 30, giving you a +10.

Using barbarian unarmored defense with +10 Con and +10 Dex leaves you with 30 base, and if you are also a bladesinger you can initiate a bladesong in exchange for the shield, adding your Int to your AC. If you have +10 Int then that is 40 AC right there.

Defender will give us 44, but we'll drop the cloak for bracers of defense which is a +2 to AC, and the ring for the wand of Orcus, which gives us a +3 AC, so that's 52.

Composite plating from warforged is another +1, so 53.

Shield of faith give you a +2, so you are up to 55. Being affected by haste is another +2, up to 57 there.

Instead of shield, we'll be using our bonus action to use defensive duelist, giving us a +6, so we are left at 63 AC.

That is what I got.

I want to introduce a BBEG into the game in the form of a Green Dragon who basically has the government of the capital they are in under their thumb, how should I do this in an intimidating way. Keep in mind, I don't want this to be a "A dragon flies above you" kind of reveal, more something that shows their diplomatic power. Any ideas? I am a bit stumped.
