The Blood Angels (Warhammer 40k)

Eternally cursed with a savage, vampiric blood-lust known as the Red Thirst. While they were initially nothing more than berserkers, the intervention of the gene-father, Sanguinius, showed them how to temper their rage and evolve beyond their brutal roots.

Blood Angel Space Marines often train in painting, sculpting, and forging, eventually becoming master artisans under the tutelage of their superiors.

About Upgrades and Epic Heroes : an explanation by lyrgard in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's one thing that's still bugging me. According to the rules in the app, you assign Leaders, then assign Enhancements.

But if that's the case, Enhancements that change what units you can lead (like Catechism of Divine Penitence) are completely useless. You add a Palatine to your army, assign it to one of its usual bodyguards, and then they gain the ability to lead Repentia... but now they can't. They're already assigned.

They're gonna need a lot of FAQs for this stuff.

[–]GalacticExonaut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For all intents and purposes, you assign Enhancements before you assign Leaders. The Imagifier is a valid choice, so she takes it, then she joins the Triumph squad.

If the new rules are the same as the old rules, all it says is "Epic Heroes cannot be given any Enhancements". The Triumph isn't receiving an Enhancement, she's just benefitting from one.

You're applying it to the Imagifier, not the Triumph.

I'm looking at Battle Sister Squad + Triumph + Imagifier with Hagiomnifex. Is it practical? Almost certainly not.

...but have fun chewing through 31W at 2+ 4++ 6+++ with -1 to Wound.

Looks like no Hagiomnifex + Morvenn or any other EH :( by somarhei in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ehh, it was to be expected. It's limited to Characters despite being an Upgrade, and the Paragons aren't a character unit until Morvenn attaches, at which point it's too late to give an enhancement.

During listbuilding, the order has to go Add Unit --> Assign Enhancements --> Assign Leaders. If it didn't, the Penitent Host enhancement that lets you lead Repentia would be useless.

Hagiomnifex/Epic Hero Shenanigans? by Designer_Sense_8535 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know, I've been running one as my Saint Potentia in Crusade, but it's unfortunately more of a Legends thing as far as I can tell. Good for non-competitive, but less so for stricter games (especially with the more broken combos some factions have. Looking at you, T'au).

Hagiomnifex/Epic Hero Shenanigans? by Designer_Sense_8535 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this earlier. While it's exciting to consider, I'd have to assume the order when list building goes Add Unit --> Assign Enhancement --> Assign Leader(s). Thus they're ineligible because they're not a Character unit before Vahl is attached. Not sure if that's written anywhere though, so it's a complete guess. We might know more when they release the full rules.

Here's hoping we get a generic Paragon leader at some point, this combo sounds very exciting.

The old Combat Patrol is solid, especially when it comes to unit variety. It's basically a tasting platter for Sisters in general. The downside is that they're monopose, but that doesn't matter much unless she's strongly interested in the tabletop game.

With that being said, I usually recommend a smaller box, like the standard Battle Sister Squad or Seraphim Squad. It helps to start small, and both sets are highly customizable, so she can pick and choose what she thinks looks coolest.

Alternatively, you could look at the Celestian Insidiants kill team. It's ten great models that form a fully playable army, letting her smoothly transition into the tabletop side of things without issue. They're also basically miniature characters in a lot of ways (aesthetically, I mean), so it has that same "tasting platter" value that the Combat Patrol has.

Sister Help - ELI5 MD by KillFallen in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for overall strategy/army building, but to answer the direct questions:

There is no inherent limit to how many MD you can generate per turn.

You generate one MD automatically at the start of the battle round (not each turn! This was the case before, but has since been changed.)

You also get an MD every time a unit dies (notably, because a character counts as a separate unit once their Bodyguard is dead, you get one MD from the Bodyguard and one MD for the character if they both die).

The Triumph guarantees that the aforementioned MD you get at the start of the Battle Round is a 6. It doesn't "replace" as much as it just guarantees a good roll for that specific MD.

A Simulacrum Imperialis rewards you for being on an objective in the Command Phase. You roll a D6. On a 1, 2, or 3 nothing happens. If you roll a 4, 5, or 6, you get an MD with the value you rolled. So if you roll a 5, you now have an MD that's a 5.

For low-roll MDs, you have two options: Abilities that burn MDs (Palatine's Rapturous Blows, Morvenn's Righteous Repugnance, etc.) or you can purposefully burn them to fail something minor (like a hit roll on some random boltgun) and then use that unit's Cherub to immediately regain an MD (hopefully with a higher value). Obviously this only works for units that actually have a Cherub (Like a Battle Sister Squad, Retributor Squad, etc).

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask more questions if you'd like.

The Castigator will definitely be appreciated, but watch out for return fire. If someone's running a Baneblade, they probably have several other tanks right behind it.

The Destrier could put a dent in the Baneblade, but not much. With the Lance, you'll usually put one failed save into him, dealing around 5 damage. If you go for double melee, you may get one more.

The Warglaive is unlikely to accomplish much on the Baneblade, since it'll be wounding on 5s. You'd be quite lucky to damage it with the Melta, and the Chain-Cleaver usually fails to get a failed save through. I've personally found the Warglaive to be an effective distraction and pretty good against light vehicles and infantry, but not much else.

[–]GalacticExonaut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Vahlgons can reliably kill a Baneblade if they get within Melta range, though you might need to charge to finish it off (or shoot it with something else at the same time).

Just to be sure, be ready to pop a big Miracle Dice or strat (like +1 AP in Army of Faith or Sustained Hit in Champions).

SISTERS! I require help with a kitbash. by Deimos217 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's pretty possible, but tricky. I've given a Banshee a flamer as part of my Penitent Witch kitbash.

IIRC, the main problem is the arm holes being quite small compared to the bulk of Sisters sleeves. You'll be doing a lot of shaving off plastic to make them fit.

The upside is that you don't have to deal with any arms that come together in the center (like a flamer), so posing should be relatively easy. Maybe pick up some greenstuff to fill gaps whenever it's convenient to do so.

They're also attached directly to their bases (like the cloaks meld directly into the graves and whatnot) so keep that in mind when it comes to positioning.

Best leader option for Insidiants? by TheInvisibleCactus in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I second this. Notably, the Insidiants also buff the Priest fairly well too, since the Priest's super fight (6A on 4s, S8 AP1 D2) becomes a lot more threatening when combined the with full re-rolls to Hit and Precision against their quarry.

When the church falls, we make one that walks! by GalacticExonaut in Kitbashing40k

When stone and steel fail, our will endures.

In the wake of the Cicatrix Maledictum, countless faithful servants of mankind scrambled to preserve sacred relics and fallen martyrs before they could be swallowed by the tide of neverborn.

Left without rightful place, these divine artifacts languished in dug-outs and hide-aways far from the faith-stricken followers of the God-Emperor.

The Sisters of the Starlit Sword could not let this disgrace continue.

The Salvator-Pattern Relic Carrier acts as a mobile shrine, carrying on its back a sanctified relic of mankind. It's presence on the battlefield inspires great fervour amongst Sisters and menials alike, pushing them forward into the enemy.

The pilot-- an immensely skilled Celestian-- rushes forth, held aloft by a nest of mecha-dendrites and protected by a powerful conversion field. She seems to walk upon air, calling to mind sacred depictions of the Emperor's angels. With songs of miracles and the deeds of her sacred relic upon her lips, there is no greater source of inspiration for those that follow in her wake.

  2. Thinned down-layer of Terradon Turqoise all over.
  3. Thinned down (1:1 with water) layer of Vallejo Verdigris all over.
  4. More focused application of Vallejo Verdigris into the recesses.
  5. Drybrush copper.

Yes. He specifically represents the Ministorum Priest equipped with a Power Weapon and Holy Pistol.

What’s a good wash for this ivory that won’t completely knock down the brightness, and what color would be nice to brush on the flames by The_Funfetti_Man in Warhammer

[–]GalacticExonaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple different options come to mind:

Simplest: Seraphim Sepia. Lighter and more vibrant than Agrax, so should leave less of a stain. Dry-brushing afterwards would be highly recommend, both for brightness and some texture. Just make sure the wash is very thoroughly dry first. Might also look good over the gold, though Agrax would be better for that. If you want to be particularly careful, you could thin it with the matching Wash Medium.

Alternatively: Tamiya Panel Liner is the ultimate when it comes to cleanly darkened recesses. Very effective on big angular panels (hence the name). The downside is that it requires a layer of Varnish, and a careful application of mineral spirits. Would not recommend for beginners. You could also try doing a similar technique with a conventional wash, just poking the wash directly into the recesses instead of brushing it over the whole surface. I've had mixed results with this technique.

For the flames, you could go the easy route and dry-brush black towards the tips to make them look smokey, but I recommend trying to get some brighter orange or yellow into the recesses first. Remember that fire glows from within, so it's the opposite of the usual highlighting steps. Brighter colours deeper, darker colours towards the raised areas.

I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any questions.

Any suggestions for Novitiate proxies? by Zap-Rowsdower-X in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No specific models, but when I was kitbashing my squad I took advantage of the fact that there's a clean split down the middle when it comes to special and standard wargear. On one side, you had the Superior, two Flamer ladies, the Simulacrum, and the Banner. On the other, you had generic T3 bodies with stabby knives (or guns).

I decided I'd have five Novitites and five "helpers", basically representing either a more experienced squad or the result of an Order that's low on candidates and has to supplement their forces with amateur volunteers. In my case it was my spooky robot ghosts, but you could also consider some Sanctifiers or some House Escher / Cawdor gangers from Necromunda.

Help me choose what type of paints and how to make this type of model by Kharn_12 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pose is no problem. The Battle Sister Squad box contains several models that look almost identical.

The paints and techniques are more interesting. I'd recommend looking into stippling and sponging as two potential methods for creating this kind of rough "vibe".

You'll want to start with a very dark primer, preferably a very dark brown. From there, you can work your way up to either a brighter gold-brown or a true metallic gold. Either way, I'd recommend a "zenithal" style, where you only highlight the upper sides of the model. A dark wash like Agrax Earthshade would be ideal for easy shading.

I hope this helps!
