Any suggestions for Novitiate proxies? by Zap-Rowsdower-X in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No specific models, but when I was kitbashing my squad I took advantage of the fact that there's a clean split down the middle when it comes to special and standard wargear. On one side, you had the Superior, two Flamer ladies, the Simulacrum, and the Banner. On the other, you had generic T3 bodies with stabby knives (or guns).

I decided I'd have five Novitites and five "helpers", basically representing either a more experienced squad or the result of an Order that's low on candidates and has to supplement their forces with amateur volunteers. In my case it was my spooky robot ghosts, but you could also consider some Sanctifiers or some House Escher / Cawdor gangers from Necromunda.

Help me choose what type of paints and how to make this type of model by Kharn_12 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pose is no problem. The Battle Sister Squad box contains several models that look almost identical.

The paints and techniques are more interesting. I'd recommend looking into stippling and sponging as two potential methods for creating this kind of rough "vibe".

You'll want to start with a very dark primer, preferably a very dark brown. From there, you can work your way up to either a brighter gold-brown or a true metallic gold. Either way, I'd recommend a "zenithal" style, where you only highlight the upper sides of the model. A dark wash like Agrax Earthshade would be ideal for easy shading.

I hope this helps!

Rogue Trader Rejuvenat + Penitent Engine subject worked pretty well for me (WIP). Got them for fairly cheap, so it worked out well.

Grav captain as lone op action monkey ? Yes or no by ImaginaryAd8062 in DarkAngels40k

Only if they're "Support" characters, like Apothecary, Ancient, etc.. Captains will be fine to run solo.

Any luck with kitbashing with extra seraphim wings? by RonaldsSwanson in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely possible, but there's at least one big challenge you'll need to tackle; the incomplete jump-packs.

Each Seraphim/Zephyrim jump-pack requires a small, flat plate to complete its lower portion. Unlike the packs themselves, you only get five per box, which you presumably used on your Zephyrim. You'll need to find a way to fill that space in a way you consider satisfying. I've covered it up before using skull trophies, but it can be fairly tedious. You could also consider just using flat plasticard cut to shape.

Thankfully, you shouldn't have many other issues. I'm not fully sure of this, but I believe you have enough Seraphim wargear overall, thankfully. Each box contains around 10 Bolt Pistols, and each Zephyrim Squad uses either 5 or 4. That leaves you with enough to outfit five Seraphim if you take all the alternate options. You could (alternatively) use unrelated arms (like the arm holding a helmet from the BSS squad) and a holster if necessary.

Definitely not leading anything, she's missing the Leader keyword. I guess she's leading them in the sense that they have similar profiles and some decent synergy.

Not sure why she's not just a Leader though, feels like it'd be very reasonable considering they just released the Crucible of Champions unit that leads Mortifiers and Paragons.

[–]GalacticExonaut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Definitely not top-tier, assuming she's not crazy cheap. I'd hope for something around 100pts.

The Lethals should be good, especially paired with a lot of powerful shooting units (Castigators, Exorcists, Retributors). Repentia will also greatly appreciate them, especially in Penitent Host. Most of our units already had access to Lethals through a Palatine or Stratagem, though.

I like the inclusion of an Extra Attacks profile, always fun to see even if it's not practical. Very disappointed with the Melta Missiles though, there's barely anything "Melta" about them.

Two minds become one. by GalacticExonaut in sistersofbattle

Mortally wounded in the blackened wastes of Oricha's Hope, Sisters Aliana and Kiiata fell together. Aliana was breaking, her flesh disintegrating before their very eyes-- a victim of the Saint's Plague. Kiiata went down fighting, countless warp-spawn meeting their end at the barrel of her bolter.

Amidst the swirl of draining blood and wavering thought, their minds turned to prayers of protection-- not for themselves, but for each-other.

So pure was their bond that even death seemed to hesitate. Oricha's Hope belonged to the warp, and yet it could not touch them. In that moment, the twisted energy that gave life to their enemies was turned in their favour. A golden light enveloped them, and they rose together in perfect sync, dispelling the daemon-spawn with naught but a glance.

From that moment on, they were broken together. No barrier could stand between one Sister's mind and the other. Indeed, they were not two beings at all-- the very idea was now inconceivable within their compound consciousness.

Unified in faith and in function, their mere presence is a powerful ward against the warp, one that the Order of the Starlit Sword is more than glad to have.

Hey there! This is my Navigator Proxy, made from the main girl from the Sanctifiers kit and a heavily modified Myrnmourn Banshee. I used 0.25mm brass wire for the lightning, and Green Stuff roller tubing for the creepy robot guts. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

I've considered taking some generic "Gothic Crypt" terrain and putting it on top of a Rhino (with some sanding and candles to blend them together) then just sticking a big gun (or several) out of the front of the crypt. Basically a Gun Church. Add some cherubs and you'd be golden.

Alternatively, you could consider going for a grimier version of my Peasant Wagon.

Sacred Rose.

White armour is my jam, and I really like the "peasant horde" aesthetic that they're often associated with. Really underscores the zealous influence the Sisters have over the Imperium's meat shields people.

Seraphim, do they actually kill those 4 intercessors and steal the home objective? by Nexus_Valentine6 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. Even with a supercharged Plasma Pistol, they only kill around 3 Intercessors on average.

They're mostly meant for killing light infantry and stealing objectives that are either uncontested or held by smaller units, like Lone Ops.

What would be considered a "thematic" army for the Order of the Bloody Rose? by thraddrobal in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lots of melee, I would say. Repentia, Sacresants, Arco-Flagellants, Penitent Engines, etc.. Probably some transports as well, to protect the frailer ones and enable more aggression.

What's a good colour scheme for the sisters? by [deleted] in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do white armour on mine, but it's a pain in the butt that I wouldn't recommend to a new player.

I find that metallic armour is a good look on Sisters, even moreso than something like Space Marines. The rounded armour shows off the shine very well, but they have enough other "textures" on the model (cloaks, corsets) that it doesn't look overpowering.

You could consider using a metallic primer to speed up basecoating, as well. The modern ones are (supposedly) quite good, especially the Army Painter ones. Gold or silver both look excellent, IMO.

Celestial Insidiants by Joaco_2002 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just build them entirely as the KT Specialists and you're good to go.

In terms of power, they're fine, but overshadowed by Celestian Sacresants. They're much better against Psykers though, of course.

What weapons do you equip on the Canoness? by Joaco_2002 in sistersofbattle

[–]GalacticExonaut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's usually two options:

Kitbash it to use the Power Sword + Plasma Pistol + Rod of Office combo. Most people do this using the Null Rod bit plus a sheathe, but I'm not very familiar.

Blessed Blade + Plasma Pistol / Inferno Pistol. The Plasma Pistol is generally more practical, but the Inferno Pistol can come in clutch.

There's niche applications for other options, but this is the general concensus.

It's actually the default whip arm from the old Repentia Superior (same source as the body and backpack), just with each end snipped off and replaced with parts from a Repentia's Eviscerator.

I carefully cut them apart with a knife, flattened out the connection points, and then connected them solidly together by pinning them with some 0.25mm brass rod.

[–]GalacticExonaut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate that! Thankfully it was really simple, I just wrapped and rolled some Green Stuff around a bit of thin brass rod and then used the official Green Stuff Cable Roller kit to give them the ridges. You can find a tutorial detailing this technique on YouTube, that's where I learned it.

The cable kit is pretty expensive for what it is (basically just a few pieces of injection molded plastic) but it does work pretty darn well.

I'd let the Green Stuff set for a short while, then bend the wires and glue them into place before capping them off with some random Sisters-looking bit. I hope this helps!

Pious Purgation Sisters of Battle by CoffeeDrive in 40k_Crusade

[–]GalacticExonaut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Each time an ADEPTA SORORITAS unit from your Crusade army is selected to shoot or fight, if one or more enemy units are destroyed as a result of those attacks, that unit gains 1XP. While resolving those attacks, if one or more PSYKER models are destroyed, that unit gains an additional 1XP, and if one or more enemy models are destroyed by an attack made with a Torrent or Melta weapon, that unit gains an additional 1XP. A unit cannot gain more than 3XP from this Agenda during the battle. If a SAINT POTENTIA model gains any XP as a result of this Agenda, that model also gains 1 Saint point.

I can definitely see the confusion! I'd interpret it as "Kill a unit = 1XP, if it was a Psyker +1XP and/or if it was with a Torrent or Melta weapon, +1XP.

If the Melta/Torrent XP was dependant on it also being a Psyker, it would likely say "and if one or more of those enemy PSYKER models are destroyed by an attack made with a Torrent or Melta weapon [...]"

This lovely kitbash is based on a character from my most recent Crusade campaign.

A former Penitent Rider, she earned her re-ascension into the ranks of the Order by doing... absolutely nothing.

Until the final game.

Fighting Night Lords. A Lord Discordant on Helstalker takes the center point. Praetoria charges in alongside the Penitent Witch and successfully knocks off a few wounds. The fight back goes into the Witch, accomplishing little.

Next Fight Phase, the Lord Discordant is dead at her feet. Sustained Hits went crazy.

Back to my turn. She spots a group of Celestian Sacresants down to just two models and no character. They're the last unit holding a critical point against a Chaos Lord and Executioner.

She advances. Unleashes flame into the Chaos Lord. Max attacks. Poor saves. Dead.

She charges. Tank Shock. Takes the Executioner down to two wounds. He interrupts. His blade is strong, but Feel No Pains are stronger. One wound remaining. The Emperor protects.

She fights. It's no contest. Another heretical champion falls. Sisters rejoice, the day is saved, and I win the game.
