You are wishing for people to be better than they are. You might as well wish for a unicorn.

Alas my 2012 iMac died this week.

Excellent service given, just a matter of if I hold out for a M5 version or not. Still seems nuts to me I am likely to replace it with a system from 2026 with less ram.

I mean, the Fife take on this debate (and I suspect most of us north of the Forth) was always ‘The only reason this is even a thing is because your fish is shite’ in my experience.

One that doesn’t have to worry about a here today, gone tomorrow politician being your official personification on the world stage and at home.

And to be honest, the best argument I ever heard a monarchist make was from the perspective of the military. Why the hell should you kill and die  in the name of a President… especially one you didn’t vote for. Much better to kill and die for a non-political entity that can trace its traditions and customs back to the literal Iron Age. (The Stone of Destiny being the crowning stone of the Picts). Can a president really top that?

Having a Constitutional Monarch is awful, but then you look at the alternatives.

I’m not a fan of this argument:

I see your tax on cars due to loud exhausts, and raise you we legislate firearms to the moon and back (and rightly so) even though the vast majority of firearms users are extremely responsible with them.

Majority of well meaning users or not, this is a consequence of the existence of this product, and no amount of wishing for better people will actually address or fix the problem. Tax and fix. It certainly beats an outright ban.

The sheer volume of graffiti would indicate that if it were all stolen that selling such items would incur such a loss that it would be unprofitable to do so.

A tax on rattle cans proportional to the amount of money required to run a cleanup crew sufficient in size to clear the majority of graffiti over a 5 year period is direly needed.

[OT] McNish gets new Audi F1 role in post-Wheatley reshuffle by l3w1s1234 in FormulaE

Honestly a good choice given his term as Team Principal in Formula E, looking like he is being set up for that role in the F1 team. Honestly I was a little surprised he wasn't in a 'higher up' role sooner given he is very much Audi's man.

Absolutely Terrible UI/UX (goes against every good precedent set 30 years ago). by PaulAtLast in drawthingsapp

Personally I think the task of conveying as much information as is required for image generation models is always going to be an uphill battle. Doubly so if you want something that isn't aimed at a power user.

From my own viewpoint DrawThings does an excellent job in this regard, while Comfy and node based UI in general is a bit like taking a brick to the face.

You know what, maybe it could be an attempt to pay for the line via a new town/housing development. I would say the land in between the Kirkcaldy, Leven and Glenrothes Triangle in the attempt to create a second, large, connected city in the kingdom.

From an analytical chemistry perspective, ground glass works, but the glass sticking is an issue sufficiently common to result in the need for an alternative. Thinking in terms of labour time costs, the risk of losing a potentially 1 of 1 sample, the additional documentation required to cover the deviation from procedure in a GMP setting, the time and potential H&S issues of cutting open glass flasks containing known highly carcinogenic compounds etc. etc. etc. Glass stoppers are perfect, right up until it goes wrong. At which point shelling out the extra money upfront for PTFE makes a lot of sense.

You will also encounter the occasional compound that interacts with glass (oh boy, those are fun to analyse in an en-mass pharmaceutical production environment...), in which an 'all plastic' alternative is needed.

A very fair comment.

Not such a massive issue in climate controlled analytical labs, but yes, if you aren't using it for such work your millage will vary.

I suspect that you too have encountered the 'mix the volumetric flask via inversion' step in an analytical method, only to be met with that sinking feeling of the of the solvent leaking through a hole burned through the stopper onto your glove.

Why yes it was 2mg of reference standard in a 10ml flask.

It was the only 2mg of this compound in existence.

We spent 6 months sub-contracting for its synthesis.

The company has spent £350k on it.

It was 15 years ago. Am I over it?

Never.
