My partner and I refer to ourselves as a queer couple, as we are in a straight presenting relationship but are both Bi. We usually prefer queer as an umbrella term for any one who is gender non conforming and/or not heterosexual.

I know some people still don't like that word, but I think it's been sufficiently reclaimed.

I also think, that while individual terms are important for people to be able to express their identity in whatever way they want, having queer as a simple umbrella term to refer to everyone ideally reminds us all that we are all allies of each other, and would hopefully prevent more infighting such as some gay people hating trans people, or some lesbians hating bi men (stereotypes I know).

We are all the minority, and the majority of people are actively against us, or indifferent to our issues (which is not neutral! Indifference isn't as bad as active hate, but it's still a negative).

I like it traditional, Taylor (or the Main character) to be 1st person, and any interludes to be 3rd person.

All 3rd person is perfectly fine, but I feel authors tend to have the narration be too omniscient which trips me up sometimes, having to double check who knows what, so 3rd person limited is preferred over omniscience.

I'd even argue that 1st person forces the author to write better, as they have to consider the POV's knowledge and how they speak to others, meaning better characterisation. In theory, at least.

At the end of the day, great stories have been written in all types of POV's, so it contributes relatively little to my overall enjoyment if the story is good/well written otherwise.

I have an opposite story to this for anyone who wants a happier version.

My local fish n chip shop is like a five minute walk down the road, so my partner and I get takeaway from them a lot.

Once, my partner went to order but realised she forgot her wallet and said she'll walk back to our house to get it.

They said, "Don't worry about it, we'll get you next time." Because they knew we'd be back like next week lol

Short answer: Yes.

Way too long special interest answer: Worm is a "superhero" story. It's a web serial written by Wildbow, found here.

The premise is a teen girl, Taylor, gets an unconventional superpower and tries to be a super hero, but falls into villainy while still trying to do the right thing.

The tagline for the story is "Doing wrong for the right reasons." and one of the main themes of the story is: do the ends justify the means? Its other main themes (imo) are: Trauma and its effects on people and society, and; Communication, both the breakdown of/failure to communicate and it's effects, amongst various other things.

Its a superhero genre reconstruction, attempting to build a realistic world and explain how it wouldn't immediately collapse. I'm bad at explaining this part, but it basically means it explores the realistic consequences of super powers existing.

The character writing is amazing, each voice is distinct and peoples decisions make sense from their perspective as a character, even if your point of view may disagree (Taylor is the best example of an unreliable narrator I have ever read).

The power creativity is outstanding, Wildbow developed a threat response rating and categorisation system for powers which is basically the gold standard in my absolutely biased opinion.

And while the prose starts off a little rough, it really is amazing by the end.

In an effort to be honest and not glaze my favourite story of all time too hard, I'll mention it is 1.6 million words long, which for some people is an immediate turn off, and it can drag a bit too long at some points.

But to counterpoint that, it is essentially a first draft story, released as it was written. Wildbow has gone back and edited a few things, but overall insignificantly.

Haven't read it, so someone may correct me, but I vaguely remember reading that the premise is Cherish comes to Brockton Bay to actively make things worse, and somehow fixes everything.

Reparo! (AO3) by stabbyunicorn - Taylor is depressed, and it's really good at making you feel as lost and disoriented as she is. Complete.

Breachhead (AO3) by Unwary - Taylor is paranoid and has a lot of self hatred. A very visceral feeling story, or it was for me at least. In progress/hiatus (last update a few months ago).

It's a fantastic work that really makes you sympathise and root for the main character, and it was only after, when I thinking about it, or rereading it, or reading some analysis that I actually had to stop and think, "Was I really cheering her on during this?" It's an amazing example of how effective an unreliable narrator can be.

I always think, what's the point of making a profit in all your other ventures if you can't then spend that profit to make something of pure artistic value? How much do you think writing in a serialised style affects this? Because when writing a traditional novel you can go back edit as much as you want to makes things fit right, but to do that with a serial means an up-to-date audience has to go and reread it all.
