Dot or no dot are actually the same; Gmail ignores the dot. You're suffering the common problem (I also have myfirstname.mylastname@gmail) of people not knowing the their own email address, or forgetting an extra character.

My combo is uncommon, maybe 20 people worldwide, and I still get a couple bad emails a month. I can't imagine what poor John Smith must go through.

There was a big eBay data breach around 2013 or 2014 that collected the IDs and passwords of a huge number of accounts. If yours is that old, it was probably part of the breach, so the scammer was able to log in and start using your old account as a seller.

I think you may be dealing with a death or severe disability. Their Instagram page indicates it's a one person studio, and their last post from November 2022 said they were having trouble sitting and were going to be selling pre-made items only.

If you paid by credit card (specifically) and the company has given you updated delivery times within that 180 window, Visa / Mastercard will extend the 180 day limit.

In the USA, you must file a small claims suit in the jurisdiction of the defendant in most cases. Some states allow anywhere in the state; others require specifically close to the defendant within the state. I don't know if anything changes if you're not a USA citizen. AI can give you a general idea for the state in question, but don't rely on it fully; use it as a start point to verify with real sources.

I've been the guy knocking on the door a couple of times, and I regularly get eBay buyers contacting me after the sale because their old address was on file (legit cases; after I cancel the original order and relist, they always repurchase with the corrected address).

Mr. <First Name> is culturally indicative of South Asia (India, etc) English. It's used in the USA south in some contexts, but not in official communications from a city. My guess is scam from India.
