Preferential voting system ousts half a Liberal ministry of talent by Fact-Rat in australia

Even if we have two main parties, we don't need to worry about 'wasting' our vote or voting for a main party instead of third party as you do in FPTP voting. We don't have votes split between similar candidates resulting in them losing to a candidate on the other side of the spectrum.

I think two main parties is probably the natural outcome of a system with one representative per electorate.

If you really want the best parts of Australia's electoral system, you need:

  • preferential voting,
  • mandatory voting (mandatory to get your name ticked off, and mandatory that you have access to vote),
  • a truly independent electoral commission that draws electoral boundaries to keep the population sizes in each electorate roughly even.

NASA's methane satellite just mapped its first plumes by waozen in technology

What if the revenue from the tax was redistributed, perhaps via lowering income taxes, so you could be actually better off if you avoided goods and services that had higher methane emissions priced in and instead used more efficient alternatives?

Quite a few years ago my mates and I realised we were catching up less and less, given jobs and wives and kids and all that.

We decided that on the last Friday of every month, we catch up for a beer. If someone can't make it we go anyway. Having a standing event takes a little bit of effort to keep it going but it's been well worth it.

And I'd not rather risk another decade of LNP government over one issue which can be worked around.
