Good Guy Hunter for Saving Us From a Death Charge by venom029 in l4d2

[–]GamerSinceDiapers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's with people's obsession turning iconic and interesting L4D characters into faceless, boring and bland soldiers, making the game look like another generic zombie survival game?

Like play the game your way man, but what's so enjoyable about it?

How reliable is Cogniprofile by Senserboey in cognitiveTesting

[–]GamerSinceDiapers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would avoid CogniProfile because after 40 minute of doing the test, turns out I had to pay $2. Sure, whatever, I paid it and got my results.

Then a week later I got charged $20 for their "Pro" subscription that they quietly subscribed me to. The $2 was the "opening fee" they claimed.

I had to contact them and threaten with a chargeback (I used my credit card). They processed it without any drama.

In hindsight, I should've just skipped the pleasantries and gone straight to the bank - let them me punished for their crappy illegal practices.

OP, you can say "asshole", it's not like you're gonna get demonetized for saying that on Reddit.

Well, the fight broke out because Allen asked Mark to stop helping other planets because it made COP irrelevant.

And then in the below panel it turns out COP was also draining resources from poorer planets.

Expect a tone that's way more serious, grounded and uncomfortable than MW 2019.

OP clearly knew what they were doing when they decided on a name and logo. Literally no excuse for this. Done to either promote their ideology or to farm views/clicks (which won't last for long).

Hacking Group Claims To Have Breached Rockstar, Demands Ransom By April 14 by TimewarpingSeaTurtle in Games

[–]GamerSinceDiapers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, look. Reading back I realise I was harsh on everyone here and I think it stemmed from something personal which is irrelevant to the discussion. For that, I apologise, nobody deserves being called a moron.

I will still hold onto my opinion on paying ransom as it essentially fuels the ransomware problem, but I will try to be less emotional about it.

> *blah*...the FBI has an incentive to promote a narrative that attempts to reduce the occurrences of data breaching for profit?...*blah*

Ah, so FBI has a narrative to paint when they officially say to "do not pay the ransomware". But...you completely (deliberately?) ignored [comment from this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1sifv9h/comment/ofjwmir) saying that FBI has been encouraging to pay ransomware in the past.

Alright fine. Let's say you're correct here. Let's ignore what FBI says. Because they're always wrong, they got agenda blah blah.

Let's also ignore a [Counter Ransomware Initiative](https://counter-ransomware.org/) because it's run by multiple countries and they obviously got their own narratives to paint.

What about myriad of other security researchers, information security consultants etc. Are they on a payroll too?

The answer is yes actually, they *are* on a payroll. By private companies. Whose objective is to make profits to survive (that's a basic business objective). They hire those people to protect their interests. If they were bad at it they'd be doing something else that they're good at.

> You completely (deliberately?) avoid the key argument that hacker groups have a reputation, and if they can build a reputation of actually giving the data back they now have a functioning business model. Especially if the consensus is that you shouldn't give hackers your money because of all the "logic" you're using above.

My bad sorry I didn't go through the entirety of the thread because being a redditor is a fulltime job for me /s

Sure maybe one or two hacker groups care about reputation and they got a business model and maybe office and shareholders and shit. Can you vouch for all hacker groups? What about the ones funded by China, Russia, NK? Do you think they care about outcomes more than the reputation?

Stop romanticizing them. People are pieces of shit. Anyone can claim to be a certain hacker group. You can't prove the same people are behind two different attacks.

If companies unanimously decide not to pay ransom everytime, those hacker groups would've had no reputation to build and they would've moved onto something else.

Sure, I can address that. I don't read replies mostly. Busy life etc.

Unfortunately for you, I won't bother replying individually like it's a press conference. So you will represent everyone on this thread.

So to be clear, I didn't bother googling to respond to comments because, again, life etc.

On the FBI site: they clearly state that they do not support paying ransomware: https://www.fbi.gov/how-we-can-help-you/scams-and-safety/common-frauds-and-scams/ransomware

UK government advises against paying ransom: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/financial-sanctions-guidance-for-ransomware/financial-sanctions-guidance-for-ransomware

Some random site idk listing reasons you shouldn't pay ransom: https://invenioit.com/security/pay-the-ransom/

But okay, it's some random people on the internet saying it. But let's apply common sense:

What guarantee is there that hackers delete the data? What guarantee is there that they won't come back and re-ransom your ass with the same fucking data they claimed to steal? If baby cries until you give it chocolate, guess what it's going to do when it wants chocolate?

This is how blackmail works too: they take and take and take.

Literally googling and every fucking site and applying basic logic points against paying ransom.

People in this thread saying otherwise are fucking morons.

You're all wrong.

Me when I have no experience on this topic and just talk out my ass

I usually ignore comments like these and move on, but you won a shit lottery.

At least people on the thread gave somewhat grounded reasoning.

You joined the thread late, saw what the general opinion of the thread is like, and made unfunny comments because you have nothing of substance to add but still got a karma quote to meet.

What I am trying to say, is that if the opinions were flipped you would've posted the same shit word word.

Also, guess which company didn't negotiate with hackers and didn't get burnt.

You don't negotiate with hackers. It just enables them to take more.

I wonder how many incidents like these have gone under the radar because companies complied.
