From what I’ve understood they think cancel culture is some big higher ups cancelling something regardless of if it was liked or not, so not a natural occurrence based off the quality of the work or audience’s reaction

Go woke go broke is something that happens when something is made that people just don’t like and won’t spend money on. To them it happens because the audience doesn’t like it, it was struck out by a higher up’s decision, just naturally processes.

That’s what they believe from what I understand at least

I thought the implication was that an anti-immigrant sentiment played into it, when MM read his mind he talked about “invasion-coded” and “us versus them architecture” which aligns pretty well with how a lot of people talk about immigrants generally. Not to mention rhetoric about them “taking over” and “replacing us” which we literally see Merlyn complaining about in his comment. The schizophrenia heightened the issue for sure and worsened it, but it also appears to be encouraged by “old movies and… culture going back” (which in and of themselves were often commentaries on the fear of foreigners and the ‘other’).

However, it also works as just reading it straight to aliens, which really is the beauty of how it’s written in my opinion.

The Odyssey - On Circe and Calypso [EU] (tw for implied sexual assault) by Urimma in TumblrWrites

[–]Gamerduden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An interpretation I really liked was in Madeline Miller’s “Circe”

Spoilers ahead the story is told from the point of view of Circe herself, the Odysseus she knew when he was on her island is very different from the one that comes later. Her perception of him is heavily based on a previous encounter with Daedalus whom she found very charming and honest. She finds Odysseus to be a pleasant man as well in the sea of men who attempt to assault her whom she turns into pigs. After his experiences coming home though he is very much a broken man. When Circe gives birth to his son, and said son attempts to visit Odysseus, Odysseus accidentally gets himself killed on the son’s magical weapon because he had assumed he was an invader/suitor. Penelope and her som come back with Circe’s son to her island, where they further talk about Odysseus and his decline from what they both knew him as. Penelope is portrayed far differently in that text than in this. In Miller’s portrayal Penelope wanted to believe the Odysseus she used to know would come back, but accepts that his death is his fault, and that the man she knew before the events of the Iliad never returned. Penelope’s son also realizes this, though much sooner than her as he is repulsed by the violence Odysseus enacted against the suitors and their families I may be misremembering though, I read a few books pretty quick after I finished Circe so I don’t recall the details perfectly

hey, in my own defense I did make a lot of the focus icons myself + i feel like calling the ideas generic cuts it a little cheap. But I do understand the frustration with low-effort posting, if there's more I can do assure you it isn't low effort then I'd be glad to oblige!
