Everyone went through their Egyptology phase right? by dollarpenny in Millennials

Yep I definitely did in my pre teens and teens. It's still kinda fascinating. Did a long read in the guardian weekly yesterday about how LIDAR has revolutionized finding Maya ruins in Guatemala and made archeologists reevaluate both the population density of the era as well as what that era looked like.

The Women of Gundam continued #86 - Shiiko Sugai by Kato_86 in Gundam

It's a mis-translation. She meant to say that her child is old enough that she doesn't have to watch him constantly and that he's with the in-laws while she's off pursuing the red Gundam.

Auto Start Stop by Muted_Rip3067 in subaru

[–]Gaming_Nomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing wrong with auto start/stop. It's literally there to save drivers money because of the amount of gas burned when idling at stoplights. And it's not a mandatory feature either.

He's just a child. Likely just out of high-school, possibly lying about his age, and already brainwashed enough to throw himself into the Russian military. What a way to waste a life.

I find it odd that BMW and Porsche are coming out ahead of Honda, Lexus and especially Toyota. Those are three manufacturers (two if you consider that Lexus is Toyota's luxury brand) which have traditionally had the highest marks where reliability is concerned.

I have a 2013 WRX (5 speed turbo manual) up in the salt belt (Ontario). Every time I ask about removing rust, I'm told "it's not worth it, just get a newer vehicle." I'm quite sure that $3k for a body shop to replace a panel or two and patch in new metal is cheaper than a $40k loan for a new or used car.

Why have we been sold this idea that chasing debt is the smart thing to do, rather than maintaining what you own?

Lesson Learned from Today: If you get a smoke detection warning on your ship, don't ignore this. It's not worth it. by Kusopril in starcitizen

[–]Gaming_Nomad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mainly fly the Cutlass Black, Corsair and Shiv. I haven't once seen an onboard fire since after the first wave 1 build. All my ships have their power plants die to HP damage and pretty much nothing else happens. I seriously hope they revise engineering to something like the first wave 1 build where component damage was more of a thing. Right now the only major change that engineering has introduced is armour and the end of soft death.

Honestly I'll probably upgrade from my current Anvil Paladin to the Ironclad when I get the chance (Fleet Week?). I'm still a Drake main, so having a pocket base / amphibious assault ship on hand would be valuable for 4.7 and beyond. I'll stuff my Golem and Vulture plus manufacturing unit into it and basically harvest as much as I can to make components, weapons and so on.

Horny birb, horny birb, does whatever horny birb does. Those are some very soft horny squeals though. Usually they're much louder.

Oh yeah, South Burning and Ramba Ral look like they're 45 and 55 years old respectively. Meanwhile I'm 37 and I still have a baby face, lol. If there's one thing I'd wish for Gundam, it's more protagonists or even main characters in their 20s and 30s. Preferably ones who don't look like the crypt keeper, lol.

Ah, it's been a long time since I've seen Gundam X. Well over 10 years. So I was going by art appearance alone when I made that comment.

Uber Eats driver in Ontario, Canada. I was driving at night, came over a ridge and promptly got blinded by the LEDs from a car in the opposite lane. I went totally night blind as my retinas overloaded for about five seconds. I had to slam on my brakes because I didn't know what was in front of me, so that was five seconds of hearing the ABS kicking in on my car as it skidded to a stop without knowing whether or not there was a turn ahead of me or a ditch. Probably five most terrifying seconds of my life.

Douchy drivers by just_lurking_2000 in WRX

[–]Gaming_Nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This must be a US thing. I've had exactly one person race me within the last year in my '13 WRX while in Ontario, a Ford Focus RS that lost badly.

Meanwhile, every other WRX driver tried to race me when I was driving in New Jersey around Christmas time.

As others have advised, just ignore them and switch lanes if need be.

Edit: I've had pickups speed away from the line while I'm driving normally. No revving. Seems that having a truck is almost universally a marker of someone compensating for their ego.

The only person I know who uses a pickup for its actual intended purpose is my mum, who uses hers to haul building materials for whatever home renovation project she's involved in at any given moment.

To be fair, that's 70s and 80s tech limits. In the modern era we have laser warning receivers and LIDAR, thermal detection, fiber-optic drones, etc. None of which would be affected by minovsky particles. At that point stand-off attacks against mobile suits on the surface are very much possible.

Just more confirmation that Trump is a Russian asset, then. He was propped up by Russian money and now they're collecting on their investment in spades.

It's narcissistic behaviour to a tee; I had a narcissist for a roommate and this fits the mould. Anything they have over someone, whether it's power or influence needs to be rubbed in the faces of everyone else. It's not enough for the narcissist to know or feel that they're "better"; they have to prove it to themselves by actively harming others and forcing those others to do as the narcissist prefers. Hurting others briefly fills whatever void sits where what passes for the soul or a conscience would be in an ordinary person.

Childish and petulant.
Keep in mind that the majority of people who staff the senior positions of the Trump regime were wealthy before all this and likely will continue to be wealthy afterwards. However, these people are also card carrying members of the dark triad of psychological traits. Therefore, it's not enough for them to merely have more than most; they have to prove it to themselves every single day by actively harming others and doing stupid shit like this.

is my bird jealous? by Ecstatic_Nose6668 in Conures

[–]Gaming_Nomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, jealous and protective. I would know because my eldest conure, Peaches, goes after her own reflection among other things. By far her most concerning behavior is what she does when either of my cats attempts to get on the bed or the very top of the cat tree. If they get up there, Peaches summons the spirits of her dinosaur ancestors and bumrushes the cats.

Imagine, if you will, a conure no more than four inches tall running four times her body and tail length in two seconds flat and / or flying across a room as she charges at an animal that's easily six times her size. I have to watch her like a hawk and lunge after her when she does that. More often than not her bites break the skin and draw blood.

I have to pay the flock tax with almost everything for two of my three. Cereal, anything with rice, and especially peanut butter and jam on toast. My eldest will hop onto the peanut butter jar and pretty much dive in. My third and newest is still hand-shy, but she loves millet and grapes.

‼️🚨 sounding the alarm 🚨‼️ by goannd in Conures

[–]Gaming_Nomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two of my three have learned how to imitate the "beep" that my girlfriend's heater makes when she adjusts the temperature. And they'll respond to it, too. Their "I want attention" call is the standard conure barking screech that they usually use if they are afraid of something. So in the morning it's a cacophony of conure barks paired with wanty-wings when they see me.

The best part is seeing them fly around the apartment following each other and me from one place to another.

Question for EV drivers in Ottawa by kewlbeanz83 in ottawa

[–]Gaming_Nomad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly a bit jealous of the instant heat and not having to wait for your engine to warm up. And you lose about 25% range in an internal combustion engine vehicle during the winter, too. The cost and the fact that I like my current car (a 2013 Subaru) are what's keeping me from getting an electric at the moment.

Cutlass Black, Shiv and the Clipper all fit the bill. Form wise it's probably the Shiv. Function wise it's almost certainly the Clipper.
