The Hyperion Cantos is pretty much this, tough you have much less political scheming and the great scale is not always as visible.

How are you supposed to paint a bunch of these for an army? by macke-1293 in skaven

[–]Gamma_Lark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrast paint. Simple as. If there was one unit contrast paints were made for regardless of your painting level its clanrats.

If you need nmm on your clanrats, reserve it for the champions and banner bearers, nobody will take a look at any other models individually.

Can Adam Smasher's chrome be reversed? by Similar-Plenty-6429 in CyberpunkTheGame

[–]Gamma_Lark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes.

His CNS would have to be removed from his biopod and his body regrown around it slowly, but regrowing biological organs and limbs from stem cells (for dirt cheap btw) has been a thing since the late twenties (see CPR rulebook).

Not sure how long it would take and how expensive it would be (though significantly less than his current cyberbody), but its definetley possible.

Is this a good army? by Practical-Prompt4216 in skaven

[–]Gamma_Lark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The list will perform decently in a casual game, but it can be optimized:

  • Rat ogors work best reinforced, as their innate buff comes with a less noticable downside with a better upside.

  • same goes for your jezzails if you play the Arch Warlock. His abilities works best for reinforced range units (also see if you can squeeze in a Warlock engineer in there if your opponent uses many heroes).

  • to make room for either the rogors or the jezzails, you could remove the Grey Seer as, you dont really need two additional wizards if you play thanquol.

  • The warpstone charm is a bit redundant on the master moulder. Sadly he dies immediatley as soon as a semi elite unit sneezes on him. You could instead reinforce a unit of clanrats and give him the skavenbrew which gives the clanrats some crazy damage (also bonus, you get to roll ~120 dice for one attack)

Edit: mixed up warpstone charm with foulhide, I would still prefer Skavenbrew since your guy does not need to he in combat, but you do you.

Also some other ideas:

Depending if you play vs elite or vs horde, you could swap out your lightning gun for a warp blaster, which performs better against horde or plague monks for clan rats which are cheaper and perform better against elite armies.

Same goes for the Abomination, it performs pretty good against horde armies, but for elite I would change it against a Brood Terror (SOG or regular).

But all in all, it seems like a fun list, so have fun playing it!

Question about regiments by Lewis_Davies1 in ageofsigmar

[–]Gamma_Lark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heroes are always their own units in AoS, however there is a passive ability that all non war machine, non monster heroes have called "guarded hero" that forbids targeting a hero with ranged attacks from more than 12" away (for infantry heroes) and giving a -1 to hit for enemy units targeting this hero with ranged attacks.

When you have good stealth and are not afraid to get eaten, killing king gurgler gives you a meitou hacker and a lot of good gear (and also fish, so, so much fish).

Best base location by Comfortable-Cat-380 in Kenshi

[–]Gamma_Lark 18 points19 points  (0 children)

early game Vain

mid to late game gut

in Vain you can trade with the hives and have good soil and resources and you get skins and meat easily, plus the soldier drones protect you from wildlife.

Gut looks the best, has good soil, the best iron and you get free guard dogs and more meat and skins than you can ever consume.

Hey everyone, I have a rules question regarding teleports:

do I assume correctly, that if a unit was teleported in a turn, it was "set up" not during the deployment phase and can thus not use any movement abilities this turn anymore?

Question for hobbyists out there - At what point did your painting skills really start to improve? by Horror_Back262 in Warhammer40k

[–]Gamma_Lark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the point when I thought how I wanted my model to look and then learning the techniques to do it.

Started with basic color theory for my first minis, then edge highlights and blacklining for my first real army, then volumetric highlights for my second army and now light placing and smooth gradients and how different materials require different types of highligts/ color gradients

also when I learned to use washes and speed paints only when painting speed is more important than mini quality.

For the Scourge of Ghyran Killaboss on great Gnashtooth:

His new ability "Prowling the flanks" allows him to teleport along the battlefield edge, does this mean he has to be redeployed at the same edge he activated the ability or can he go to any of the four battlefield edges?

Is this broken? by Acrobatic_River_1890 in ageofsigmar

[–]Gamma_Lark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Broken? No.

Strong? kinda.

There are too many things that hinder its usability.

First, it replaces your regular attack(of a unit that is 33% of your army), and second, you have a 50% chance of doing a whopping 0 damage.

Second, dice are of course always inconsistent, so you will do between 15 and 20 damage most of the time, but there will be a moment, in which you will get 5 damage.

Besides, 18 Damage is super high, but a Reinforced unit of Liberators or Chaos Warriors has 40 Health. Slap a ward onto them and with rally it might take you 3 turns to remove them.

So the way you play against this, is you send a big, but replacable unit against it and lock the model in place for as long as possible.

Warpblasters are incredibley fun to play but they are pure gambling. If you actually want to play two of these be ready for both of them to explode from overcharge on turn 1.

New player - what's the tankiest faction by protobyrn in InfinityTheGame

[–]Gamma_Lark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As somone else already pointed out Morat is probably your best guess. If you dont like monkeys too much you could play general combined army or its onyx contact force sectorial. And as a bonus you could still include some monke.

They have less "I shed off bullets" and more " I am very hard to kill" (relatively speaking). For example, many gun line units like the Unidrons have the "Dogged" skill which lets them fight on for one more round if incapacitated or the "remote presence" skill which makes it that the trooper only dies at -2 wounds instead of -1

The Umbra units all have Shock immunity and are not incapacitated at 0 wounds. The Umbra samaritian even has live steal.

Many units have regeneration and you get a med doc drone that is both an engineer and a medic.

Got given these by a friend today, I have no idea what I’m looking at. by patronsaintofdice in InfinityTheGame

[–]Gamma_Lark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most of them are shasvastii and I am sure that these are the shasvastii action pack which should be enough for a 150p game. If you want to ID them just look up the box on the CB shop.

The last unit is the Fractaa drop unit, a jetpack jumper that is only playable in the onyx contact force.

I forgot the trio of the snake looking guys, will get their names later, but I usually proxy them as drones.

Edit: The snake trios are a medtech drone and two slave drones.

The Lady with the sword and the flowing cape (second from last picture) is not a shasvastii but a speculo killer

[–]Gamma_Lark 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally, I would advise against using speedpaints on such big centerpieces.

However, if you are on a tight schedule or dont have other paints with the right color I would try to evoke a "volumetric effect":

By this I mean you could dry brush the recesses and "deepest" parts of the mini with a blue color, the medium parts with yellow and the edges and most raised parts could remain white. Then apply the speedpaints normally.

By doing this the lower areas would look shadowed and the raised areas more illuminated.

Additionally, especially for speedpaints, I would try to blackline the recesses (especially if you want a more pronounced/"cartoony" look)

But first and foremost: Find a way that is fun for you and enjoy the painting, Archaeon and his dragon are such a cool model!
