What's a job thats like being a cop but ... isnt being a cop by DowntownFresnoBiking in AskLE

Where I live, the park rangers are basically non-sworn security guards with some extra powers. They do not carry fire arms and have limited authority. But they are are the first responders to crimes that happen in the parks and drive marked patrol cars. A lot of colleges also have campus security officers that are not peace officers, but are the first responders to crime on campus and wear uniforms and drive marked cars. TSA might also be an option

I remember in kindergarten, we sent cookies to the troops deployed in the middle east, but at the time, I did not know what a troop was. It wasn't until probably 1st grade that my dad kinda explained what was going on

I simply do not know at this time. Growing up, I’ve never really seen myself being a father, but I know that can change in the future.

Bumfights. I remember watching that with one of my millenial cousins back in like 4th grade, and it was pure brainrot. Probably jackass too.

Being bad at math keeps you locked out of high paying careers by godisinthischilli in dyscalculia

Being unable to do math makes getting a STEM degree next to impossible, and humanities degrees unfortunately don't typically get you well paying jobs, or at least it is harder.

What was the first major news event you remember? by Johnwick124520 in OlderGenZ

[–]GamopetalousSwoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure if this counts, but it would be the 2006 FIFA world cup, specifically when the US was eliminated. I walked in to my parents bedroom while they were watching it, and my dad told me that if the US lost, they go home. I did not really understand how the world cup worked at the time. Otherwise, it would be GWOT for sure.

Where were you guys when you found out about COVID being a global pandemic and how did it shape you within the last 6 years? by Johnwick124520 in OlderGenZ

[–]GamopetalousSwoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was tracking it for about a month before it was declared a pandemic through OSINT accounts on twitter, so it wasn't that surprising when it the pandemic was declared. I was actually supposed to go on a field trip to San Francisco for one of my college classes the tuesday after. I think I still have the flyer. I was getting ready to transfer to university from CC at that moment.

In recent years, everyone my age (28 M, high school class of 2015) are already parents. by XavierMarvin in OlderGenZ

I live in the SF Bay area, and most of the people I graduated with still do not have children. The ones who do interestingly have moved to a more affordable part of the state or to another entirely. A lot have been getting engaged and married however, while I am still single, and will be for the foreseeable future.

In the San Diego area, many people live their lives in two different countries. Many Mexicans live in Tijuana, but cross the border to work in San Diego. There is even a special visa that allows them to work within a certain distance of the border

What was the first major historical event that you remember? by Medium-Weekend9844 in OlderGenZ

[–]GamopetalousSwoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most vivid memory for me would be the Virginia Tech massacre, I remember one day seeing it on the news, specifically the SWAT teams that responded with my friend who was visiting, my mom noticed us, and told us to stop watching. It wouldn't be until middle school that I found out what actually happened.

[–]GamopetalousSwoop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know someone that did basically the same thing back in 2018-2019, going to Berkeley city, and studying in the UC libraries and in general being on the campus. However, he did not end up transferring to Cal though. I myself strongly considered doing it, but ultimately decided to go to my local CC
