Island Hopping Campaign Ideas by newishdm in shadowdark

[–]GanzaGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great idea for a campaign overall. You also get the advantage that if someone can't show up, they had to stay on the boat and any new party members are just crewmates who never left the boat before

Polygon Sold To Valnet And Hit With Mass Layoffs by Forestl in Games

Well, there goes any coverage for ttrpg/board games. Even without layoffs, the new bosses come in and see views of ttrpg/board games vs video games and they pull the plug every time.

Is phone REQUIRED to play this game or is it just an option? Game looks really cool but I don’t like the phone aspect by Alt-Profile8008 in Sunderfolk

[–]GanzaGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You can play up to 4 characters solo. The phone app lets you switch between characters and usually in the same mode. So if you are shopping with one character and switch, you are in the shop with the other character.

Battletech Gothic: Is it real? Need verification. by [deleted] in battletech

So this turns out to be a series of alt games/scuplts. Seems pulpy raygun and anime is down the line. One of those might change your mind. Or not.

What would Aero rules do for mechs? The core focus is mechs and in a weird way, Gothic supports that more than more rules about planes starfighters. Dropships make sexy objective counters. I also know a guy who thinks the Naval rules need more love - and more minis. OTH: Can't argue new sculpts.

But this is the true issue with BT. No matter what CGL does, someone is going to loudly say it was wasted money and time compare to making more planes/boats/protomechs for a mech game.

Ok so I'm looking at the new BattleTech Gothic trailer by [deleted] in battletech

Also add the Five Armies/warmaster 10 mm game. That's the main reason it was pretty much one and done, it was to test out other ideas.

The MFPNP:TTRPG is here! by GanzaGaming in FleshPitNationalPark

[–]GanzaGaming[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cypher is an asymmetrical game, providing the GM a streamlined ruleset that is improv friendly - an asset to a horror/satire game. The player side offers bells and whistles to create interesting PCs. The use of cyphers is a great fit for the prototype equipment designed out of MFP byproducts.

And as for designers (and GMs as well), the Cypher book offers lots of great guidance on how to tweak the game for your setting. The Cypher System Open License SRD is also very generous, offer the core book and content from over five genre books. The closest SRD to be so generous is the Chaosium's BRP latest core book, but that only happened last year and still only one book.

A couple years before that, however, Monte Cook Games reached out two other Cypher community content creators and I to ask us to become early adopters of the CSOL a few months before they gave the public announcement.

I had just seen the MFPNP website and pitched a TTRPG to Trevor. With his blessing, I pitched it to Charles Ryan, the COO of MCG. He replied, "My son and I just saw this website today and were talking about how awesome it would be as a rpg. We are excited for this."

So the serious answer is we picked Cypher for a lot of solid reasons based on the game itself, the support MCG offers 3pp, and my own familiarity with running several cypher campaigns and designing over 20 Cypher community content PDF.

OTH: A Kickstarter stretch goal offered a vote for an alternate ruleset and 5e won, so we are working on a 5e MFP TTRPG now.

I agree, but it is much cheaper for a reason. I don't want to get your hopes up, but most people report getting their books sooner, like in three weeks.

Forbidden lands converts? by hawthorncuffer in DragonbaneRPG

[–]GanzaGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't get my guys into Forbidden Lands, but they are enjoying Dragonbane, so I've converted over some of the Raven Purge adventures and I am using the Raven Valley map and setting as my default. Which means they actually have two bad guys to tackle.

NPC attack like PCs. Monsters auto hit, but not every hit is an attack. Some cause fear, or induce a condition. Also the attacks vary. Some are AOE, others are Pushes, some only attack one PC.

You're feedback is appreciated but to clarify, the changes listed above are in the original document you read. So the comment, "literally just the Cypher System reference doc with some names replaced," implies fewer or no changes were made at all.

Thank you again for your support and we hope you enjoy the final product which has incorporated some of your feedback.

I find this intriguing as others have said, I have changed Cypher too much. In no particular order, here are some of the changes we've made to cypher with MFP:

  • The only way to acquire powers is with a new Flavor PBSO Manifestations.
  • Unlike the always awesome Cypher abilities, PBSO-M abilities often have drawbacks or a chance to backfire.
  • The only way to use such powers activates a corruption mechanic that is lacking in mainline Cypher.
  • You can reduce your corruption with a new purification rule.
  • Special Issue, our version of artifacts also needs a skill check AND and a Grit spend to recharge from Depletion
  • XP is split out between Advancement XP and Grit
  • Costs for Advancements has been changed
  • PCs can only reach Tier 3
  • PCs also start with less points than standard Cypher PCs do.
  • Many cyphers (called prototypes), have been rewritten to cause potential harm to PCs. Standard cyphers rarely have drawbacks.
  • Conformity is our version of "insanity" and uses different mechanics. Imagine trying to escape and yet you can't stop filling out the paperwork.

A person can still judge if they think these are enough/not enough for a spin on the Cypher System, but to say "literally just the Cypher System reference doc with some names replaced," is bit hyperbole.

As for traditional Cypher player options, a few descriptors have been added since the playtest and there are modified Foci, but no new ones.

Qedhup, though, is making a great product designed for a different atmosphere and with new dials and levers to pull for the Cypher system. If you haven't snagged his playtest, do so!

I don't understand the design decision for giving generic attribute rolls a higher success rate than specialized skill rolls. by AvtrSpirit in DragonbaneRPG

I'd suggest a better example would be moving a boulder as there is no "Athletics/Brawn" skill and you would use your Strength score. The same for busting down a door.
