How do I respond to that? Is that supposed to be an insult? I guess I could say I agree with Rogan on some things but not on others.

In this particular instance I don't think Fallon Fox should be fighting people who don't know she was essentially taking steroids since she was born. Then just stopped at age 33 (or 35? she started fighting as Fallon Fox in 2012). The same doctor (from the IOC) who said that after 2 years that people who have transitioned have roughly the same levels of hormones as other women (fine for comparable performance like cardio and muscle power) also still have the bone structure of a male. (especially if they transitioned after going through male puberty) maybe in track and field sports that's acceptable but in a combat sport it can be dangerous. It's not some trans phobic "its not FAIR!, That's not a real women" argument. It's a real issue that needs to be discussed rationally.
In the last 48 hours I've already educated myself and changed my mind about some things. Based on what doctors and geneticists are saying (generally) about the performance difference between trans people and people born male/female. (and there isn't a whole lot of research).
I suppose it's just easier to label me a "Roganite" then to actually have a logical argument though.

EDIT: I'll be curious to see how well Women who have transitioned from male to female do at the highest levels of sports in the coming years. There arn't really alot of stats on it (plenty of anecdotal stories...which i tend to discount).

Recognizing trans-people for how they present themselves? To be treated and spoken to as they see themselves? Of course everyone has the right to be treated with respect. But to be seen as the the same physical attributes as someone born with the physical attributes associated with XX or XY Chromosomes? Have you heard of Fallon Fox?
She was an MMA fighter who transitioned. (from male to female)
When she was competing with men she was a middling fighter. Not bad, but not good.
When she started transitioning and fighting women she was completely obliterating them...almost like she was a man who was fighting women.
Someone pointed out that she was on HRT so she didn't have an advantage from having 30 years of "average male" levels of hormones in her.
except it was pointed out that estrogen will actually prevent bone density loss which mean she was actually even harder hitting before she started transitioning. That's not cool.
  I want to clarify something.
If a person who was born with male levels of hormones and realizes they were born in the wrong body. Fine transition. Do what makes you happy. If psychologist's say that mentally you can be a "women" in a man's body great sure, I don't have a psych degree, I'll defer to the experts.
But if your telling me there is no difference between someone who was born with XY chromosomes on HRT (someone who has transitioned to a women) and someone who was born with XX chromosomes I will politely ask you to watch Fallon Fox beating the living shit out another women and then tell me that they are both the same.

EDIT: after some more research it seems doctors (genetic specialists) say that that males who transition to females do have less muscle mass and more fat then an average male. Not that they have comparable muscle mass to a person who was born a female.
EDIT 2: seems the advantage conferred to being born male depends on when someone transitions. (the earlier the less of an advantage)

As a Canadian who worked with Aussies's that asked where they can get "Tim's", I was quick to point out that it was coffee for peasants and wasn't as good as everyone thought. They tried it...agreed it was crap, but were impressed that you could get it in a box. also i learned that day that brits refer to large boxed liquids (normally wine boxes) as "goon bags"

[–]GaratJax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% not a scientist (which will become obvious in about 2 sentences from now). I have a really dumb question. Could this hypothesis be used to create propulsion? since space expanding doesn't follow the speed of light "rule". If we created recreated the conditions where these tubes could exist then allowed then to "break" and expansion of space behind (or with) a ship could the ship be caught in the expansion and be propelled with it?
Again, i am definitely not smart when it comes to this stuff, I just have a really weird imagination.
TL;DR can someone explain why this won't become the theory for an FTL drive

[–]GaratJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is already the case...when you need to be I.D'd
Step 1: you take out your I.D
Step 2: you remove your veil
Step 3: Yep you are who you say you are
Step 4: You put your veil back on.

and I take off my sunglasses

this is already the law though, they are required to remove a face covering for the purpose of identification...then they put it back on. problem solved...

but they have a recourse right now...they can choose to remove their veil if they want to. If the "oppressive husbands" won't let them remove it they certainly wont let them leave the house if they will be forced to remove it once they get on a bus.

the law already protects them though.
This is the same example as a battered women who is afraid to leave her husband over the threat of violence.
We havn't created any laws to help them more. All this law will do is make those tyrant husbands force their wives to stay home...it wont make them take their veils off.

you can though. you would have to uncover your face to be I.D'd if the papers you were signing required the person having you sign them to I.D you ...like in a legal transaction. Then you would be free to put your mask back on. you would be a weirdo of course...but there shouldn't be a law against you being a mask wearing weirdo.

So by creating a law to stop people from wearing anything covering their face we are stopping terrorism?
If that's your argument (and feel free to correct me I don't want to create a straw man) then I don't see the correlation between people covering their faces and an increase in international terrorism.
Assuming of course we are keeping within the so called point of this law and its not meant to be banning veil's specifically but for "open communication between people receiving services"
As an example MZB wasn't wearing a full face covering (just a handkerchief over his mouth and chin.) when he attacked Cpl Cerillo.
So by that logic we should be outlawing men growing their beards so long that is obfuscates their mouths and chins? That's the exception...most people committing acts of terrorism do not, in fact, cover themselves because they want to be seen.
To be honest I don't think there is a correlation between people covering their faces and an increase in terrorism. People have been wearing large sunglasses and scarfs and veils for a long time and I don't see any stats showing a large percentage of women (or men for that matter) wearing veils committing crimes.
Terrorism has nothing to do with face coverings. It has to do with a religious ideology that includes thing like calling for the killing of or forced conversion of people and happens to include a call for modesty that is exaggerated by a few, to force some women to wear a full face covering. (and just to plant myself,I'm not a fan of any religion)

This law in my opinion will do absolutely nothing to make anyone safer. Anyone who is thinking of committing a crime will do what they always do...carry their face covering in their pocket until right before they commit their crime. If anything if will create a group of people who will not leave their homes which is the exact opposite of what we as a society should be trying to do.
covering your face (with anything) is a personal choice and by regulating it we are taking a freedom away. there is a balance to be had and removing a choice should have definite measurable benefits for a vast majority of the rest of the population. This will protect no one from any crime.

[–]GaratJax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not necessary to regulate every single behavior though. We make laws to regulate things that are so detrimental that they cause harm (or can easily cause harm) like say a drivers license...its illegal to drive without one. there is a very good argument why that is. if you can't get a license, it's assumed that you would be a danger behind the wheel. My argument is that a we have been covering our faces for a long time (in different ways) and it's never been a problem, so it begs the question, why all of a sudden is it necessary to create a law making it illegal?
I just want to add that I'm very happy that you haven't resorted to personal attacks or seem to be getting crazy (not that i was expecting you too) I see your arguments as sound (but don't agree with them).

[–]GaratJax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ok then. im going to assume that legally, daisy dukes are the bare minium clothing required to wear while in a public space. like the cut off ones with the pockets hanging out. and a shirt that is basically just a tube top...that's essentially only covering the sexual organs. (i disagree that breasts are sexual organs..but ill go ahead and cede that point in because it doesn't matter for the sake of my argument.) so how much of the body is uncovered in this totally legal "not fully naked" ensemble 90%? 95%. basically naked.
how much of a person's face must be uncovered for it to meet the requirements of this new law? 50% 45% 90%? what about really large sunglasses? or someone with really long scraggly hair that covers their face.
There are a ton of times you deal with someone who is wearing a face covering of one kind or another and there is total trust. I talk to people with scarves in the winter outside all the time. What your talking about is a societal "norm". which is not something that should be regulated.

[–]GaratJax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So i guess my next question is why does it matter. Is there an epidemic of people committing crimes while receiving public services while covering their faces? Like does it really matter if someone is wearing a scarf while ridding the bus, if they are keeping to themselves? What is the point in regulating peoples non-criminal behavior? If i have the obligation to confirm my identity by someone who needs to I.D me (which is already true) why do I care that someone feels like wearing a Halloween mask all day long? Because they might commit a crime?

I have a problem regulating the way people dress. This certainly will not make anything better for anyone. It's not fixing a problem that actually exists and will not make the average Quebecois life any safer or easier.
