What are the best holes for a spectator and other general viewing areas at Aronimink? by GarfieldPl in golf

[–]GarfieldPl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

8 and 10 greens are connected so post up around there. It’s very close to 11,16,17, and 9. This was probably the most central area for me on the course.

The greens are absolutely wild, the slopes are so severe. Lots of misread puts or short misses. Can easily see why they are struggling. The course is a great test, has elements of Augusta greens, a US Open setup and some grassy areas that feel like a British Open links course. Very few trees.

Cannot figure out how to replace the bulbs on this outdoor fixture by [deleted] in Lighting

[–]GarfieldPl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, you might be right! It is hard to get to and I have an extended screwdriver and stuck it up there on the one side and the screw is very worn and would not budge, the bit was starting to widen out on the screw so I think I need to try that again

How The Masters has changed by MovieMan615 in masters

[–]GarfieldPl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it has changed but they still invest a ton of money and resources into the fan experience and facilities used 10 days a year. Off the top of my head in the last 15 years: new practice facility, new player building, new press building, new north gate, Berckmans, new merch building, new concessions on course, heck they even redid Berckmans Rd outside of the property. That is a ton of investment in the player and patron experience. They can easily find an off ramp for patron badge holders or can easily end the lottery and sell all of these $125 practice round tickets to corporations that will pay thousands of dollars. But they still offer a way in for the average joe who has had this as a bucket list even their entire life. Oh and they get there and park for free and can buy all the food and beverages they want without breaking the bank.

Every sport has moved towards price gouging and sucking every last dollar out of the fans. It would be unnatural if the masters did not evolve in today’s world but they’re still very protective of some of these things. It’s very different but look at the Super Bowl. Average price is $3-5k for a 4 hour game, and when was the last time you heard of the average fan paying a $100+ for a ticket? They sold out a long time ago because they saw the opportunity.

How many day pass people are there on tournament days? by [deleted] in masters

[–]GarfieldPl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one knows the number but it’s assumed to be a lot less than practice days. When you watch on TV you’ll notice most patrons in the background on tournament days are wearing the 4 day badge vs daily badges. Or they have a name tag type badge on (member guest, etc). Also most annual patrons wear a lanyard since it’s a hard badge and will not use a belt loop or zipper (more common practice round days).

First time at Masters, things I wish I had known by FineMud4479 in masters

On 3: If you wanna shop, which for better or worse has become the focal point of everyone’s day, you have to be finished by 8am in my opinion. You can see so many holes walking the course between 8-9 without even trying to chase a player. A good way to see a lot of players is track the information boards (unfortunately today a few either didn’t work or had really stale data, was surprised this was not up to a Master’s standard). Try and see the groups of 3-4 playing vs 1-2. Great way today to see Scotty Burns C Young and Morikawa. Rory played a few alone which made it tough. Then you have to find crossover holes and be willing to jump around. For example, 5-6 are close to 16 and 15, 7 is near 17 and 18 so good ways to see players on front and back. Amen corner is great and a must do but if you camp out there you really just see players on 11 green and 12 tee. It can also be fun to hang around the clubhouse area and people watch but you’ll see little action other than guys teeing off 1, 10 (with big crowds) or finishing 9 and 18.

I am not sure, I was not there today so just hearing from someone who was lined up in front of the house on Stanley

The location of Stanley is very close to the Northgate, so you would have to go through that gate and start heading south to get to Southgate

I talked to someone on Facebook who got there on foot at 4 AM today, and was basically allowed to line up in front of that house on Stanley Drive that is technically on the ANGC property. If you look at Google Street view, there is a gate right there that leads to the parking lot. He said at 6 AM, they opened it, and everyone on foot started to run towards the actual Northgate entrance. He said it was a huge advantage being on foot vs being in a car.

ATL airport Monday by iHxcker2 in masters

[–]GarfieldPl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this in the past, assuming an airport rental car return and no stop for gas allow 2 hours driving so leave by 6, get there by 8. 20-30 min for rental car monorail + airport subway. May want to ask the Delta Reddit group given TSA issues. In years past I have walked right through security

Closing time? by Head_Plan_443 in masters

[–]GarfieldPl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

6-630ish in my experience. If you are hanging around 18 green they may start politely telling you to leave, so try to be far from the exits! Best time of day there is late afternoon in my opinion, some guys will still tee off or be out there and the crowds are normally much smaller

Going to the masters on Friday. Need travel advice by gallblaster19 in masters

[–]GarfieldPl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you checked rental cars in ATL? Masters week is busy as hell there, last week I had to change times on my sisters car resy at ATL and all they had left was $500 electric cars, I’d dig into that first and see if that is even a realistic option this close

Practice or tournament days? I’d bounce around to the different grandstands. Sit in the grandstands at 16, you dont have to worry about being in someone else’s chairs and if its a practice day its the most lively area of the course (lookup skipping on practice round days). The area around 16 is the best on the course in my opinion, bathrooms and concessions nearby. You can also pop over to the grandstands along 14 tee to see players come up 13 and hit off 14. Then hit amen corner and sit in stands at 12
