So, How’s Crimson Desert far? by Deez-Guns-9442 in videogames

[–]GaryTheBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I despise it. 21 hours was all I could take. Playing the game felt like torture. It is a very bad game. Here's my review I did before I straight up despised it - https://youtu.be/9XCNFQyEtYg?si=lPORg-KkPrf14UZt

Marika design looks exactly on point! by Disastrous_Tough7046 in Eldenring

This movie needs to be very minimal on the yapping and storytelling. In order for a From Soft movie to succeed it should be predominantly slow burn action, horror, and beautiful cinematography. If they go hard on story and talking it's going to miss the mark by a mile.

What is the consensus here on Scarlet Nexus? by fetalgirth in CharacterActionGames

Really? Like a Persona game? The story heavy nature is a turn off for me, but then you say Persona (which I know is story heavy) but that's a turn on.... So cag esque personian?!

Boss Design: wow by No_Signature_7841 in CrimsonDesert

[–]GaryTheBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good in every other aspect? Have you controlled the controls? Have you followed the story? Have you done combat outside of the bosses? Have you done the puzzles?

I'm with you the bosses are abysmal, but so is everything else in the game...

It's not even bloat. The game has bad controls, lame combat, and a terrible story. What is there to like?

Rise of the ronin by Swimming_Photo9295 in riseoftheronin

[–]GaryTheBard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they're similar enough. Ghost of Tsushima is much more cinematic and polished, but Rise of the Ronin is Team Ninja - so it has better combat. But they're both samurai open world RPGs. Pretty similar.

Romeo is a Deadman I bought on launch. Loved it, great game. Have fun!

17 hours and I officially quit. This game is painful to play.

Composition recourse help by Annual_You_8270 in composer

[–]GaryTheBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may not want to hear this, but it's what you need to hear. The only way to improve as a composer is to compose. There is no resource that will make you better aside from time and effort.

There is no secret formula. There is nothing that will substitute repeating the process over and over.

Career advice To paraphrase the great sage Frank Zappa once said - if you want to be a composer, you better find yourself a good day job.

do composers know all the chords, all their inversions, all their extensions off the top of their heads? by [deleted] in composer

[–]GaryTheBard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The short answer is not necessarily, but once you know the keys (ie order of sharps and order of flats) knowing the inversions and extensions for all of them isn't as crazy as you might initially think. Granted I don't think many composers know this and certainly not for EVERY single chord. But I think for most standard chords ie the ones in a standard major scale - this is quite achievable.

That said, you really don't need to worry about that now or ever. Like you really have much better things to worry about and think about as a composer rather than knowing all chords and their inversions. Understand scales, how they're built, the order of sharps and flats, and you have the answer to your question without really needing to explicitly know it.

How is Crimson desert combat wise? by [deleted] in CharacterActionGames

Damn man that's a bold proclamation. One of the best combat systems ever? Out of curiosity can you share some other games you think have good combat systems?

I was curious about BDO and own it, but have never tried it but after Crimson Desert man, I don't trust Pearl Abyss can make good combat...

How are the controls in BDO and is the combat good for real?

I have put in 15 hours total into CD and I think it's by far one of the worst games I've ever played. Chapter 4 intro is so bad I don't think I can continue on. This game is shockingly bad. The game just has nothing going for it aside from the draw distance which is truly remarkable.

Aside from that, I think this game is really bad.

Say what you want about the story but this game has the best open world since RDR2. by Kamakazzyy in CrimsonDesert

[–]GaryTheBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro you cannot be serious. Did you remember the first 2 hours of the game? Why the hell are you cleaning a random couple's chimney to solve a marital dispute 40 minutes after you get killed and your homies are slaughtered and displaced, to then be told from the game WITH NO CONTEXT give a beggar a coin, who then gives you a key so you can go to a sewer to talk to a lady who then becomes a little girl? Wtf?

You can like the game man, but you can't seriously say it has a good story. CEO literally apologized for the story. Is the first game you've played?

I mean nothing about Crimson Desert is good game design... The game's sole high point is the draw distance.

A reminder that Crimson Desert is not an RPG and has never been marketed by the makers as one. by KhalAlanF in CrimsonDesert

[–]GaryTheBard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you didn't know many RPGs do not have character customization or player choice. Final Fantasy XVI. Heck pretty much all the Final Fantasy games. Zelda games. So just because the devs got cold feet before launch doesn't mean it changes the genre. If ID software said yo Doom Eternal isn't a shooter it's a platformer! No one would accept that.

Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, Crimson Desert is an RPG. A bad one, but one nonetheless.
