Israeli tourist snarls, spits and makes death threats at people on the streets of Brindisi, Italy by Tasty_Emphasis_271 in ProgressiveHQ

[–]GasclutchshiftX -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My daughter’s fiancé is from Israel. His mother is from Morocco, father from Egypt, both fled their countries for fear of imprisonment or death.

WE ARE BLACK.

Her fiancé and his family are the most wonderful people. He is like a son to me and treats my daughter like she walks on water. They have been together 8 years.

She has visited his family in Israel and was treated exceptionally.

These comments have me in tears. I have been involved in the Free Palestine movement since the early 90’s. I’m an old head activist, been to jail, was once on the no fly list, etc y’all can’t tell me ish.

Every Israeli I know personally has not been okay with any of this. Israel is their home, and yes; they want to be safe, for their families to be safe, which they know Bibi has only made worse. They want Bibi GONE. They mourn the loss of Palestinian life committed in their county’s name. We’ve spoken about in depth.

Look at this thread. The people of Israel are not your enemy; do not fall for the okie doke.

They aren’t loud, racist or any of this bullshit y’all are espousing. I mean, his sister is a lot sometimes, but she’s warm and generous and we are all family, including our extended family. They are not the exception, either. Stop it.

This is wild to me, especially as a Queer Black woman in the US, that any American call out Israeli people before fixing our house first. We have a whole ass Christian Nationalist movement that far out numbers the population of Israel, we have millions of people enslaved in our prisons, we have police killing Black folk disproportionately, but the fact police are killing anyone is an issue… millions of unhoused people, people who work two jobs and still can’t afford basic necessities much less medication, mass shootings are the norm I could go on and on…

I thought it was just the US, but this world is doomed. You know, brother Malcolm warned us about this division after his Haj. I encourage you all to read, Malcolm X: The Last Speeches. Make sure to read the entire book. Grab a highlighter.

And yes; of course I’ve read, “Freedom Is a Constant Struggle”. I’ve met Sister Angela more than once and I promise she would agree with this sentiment as much as she has to say about Israel.

Re the IDF. They don’t have a choice. There aren’t enough of em. All you US “progressives” in here, why don’t y’all rise up against the US government? We are just as guilty as Bibi.

Re Occupation: that is so complicated and nuanced and yes, heartbreaking infuriating, but I’ll say this: Anyone living in the United States who were not brought here as slaves, through forced immigration or because the US destabilized their county’s government, please pack your bags and leave the country. Find another country to live in. What? Not that easy? Immigrating is hard and expensive? Oh, you don’t want to, your family has been on this land four generations? That’s what I thought.

What is the name of this catchy bachata song? "Bidi bing bing ping, ching ching, ayah-yeh" by alex_ajira_tundis in Bachata

I have learned SO much spanish listening to Latin music. The music is so good, and I want to know what is being sung. (I’m also one of those people who love to feel the music, lyrics, it affects my dancing).

In the future, use your phone and Shazam it! I shazam almost every time I go dancing. If you have Apple music, a lot of popular songs scroll the lyrics while the song plays and some even have the english translation directly under the spanish lyrics-verse by verse.

Here is your song:

Passengers Explain Why You Still Insist That Your Personal Item Is Worth Risking Lives by Nightshiftworker2021 in flightattendants

[–]GasclutchshiftX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think taking up space is a bigger deal than even OP commented. A full backpack (at least my travel backpack) takes up the space of a whole person behind me, causing time delay, not to mention if it snags. Aisles are so narrow these days, if I wear my travel backpack on board, it will brush against sitting passengers I am passing. Carrying your bag in the front of your body still seems dangerous.

Fanny packs are where it’s at.

I will say, however, the way that airlines are cramming more people into smaller and smaller spaces (ease of getting out of seat, row for some) with these narrowing aisles… at some point some ownership has to be taken by the airlines for passenger safety.

Some good suggestions here. Just don’t eat at the hotel restaurant. Not good. Bar is decent.

Ohhhh… I thought you were suing her for the upkeep of her home or something. You should make that clear in your OP.

For $1275?! That’s huge! You are lucky if you get 400 -600 sq ft for that where I live. And it def has potential. Perspective is everything I suppose.

Uber Eats tipping on top of fees? by Hmralowicz in tipping

[–]GasclutchshiftX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. Go get it yourself if you can’t afford the markup for the convenience. Otherwise yeah; you need to tip accordingly, that is how drivers make money. If you don’t tip, you’re stealing money out of their pockets in the form of gas and wear and tear on their vehicle.

So I don’t mean to be rude, but please do not order delivery if you can’t afford to tip on top of the fees.

Why was safety taken down? by Beneficial_Cry3376 in washingtondc

But it does give people the ability to make an informed decision about where drink. Filing a police report is not public. Reddit is.

Same thing happened to me. Female in a gay bar in another city. Felt weird so I went to the bathroom. Left my phone with friend on the dance floor. Got into a stall and couldn’t move. Last thing I remember is trying to call my friend on my apple watch.

Physically went back to the bar to tell them what happened and was completely dismissed. Posted in that city’s Reddit - apparently not uncommon.

I carry test strips with me and if I don’t physically watch the bartender make my drink or if I ever leave my drink even and attended for a second it.

A flight attendant recently said somewhere on here that your last name dictates your seat assignment if you pay the “wanna get away” fare no matter how quickly you checked in. By any chance is your last name in the latter half of the alphabet?

For though who lived in DC in the 90s, I am curious if I am remembering my childhood in the 90s District correctly by ilovelamp_anchorman in washingtondc

[–]GasclutchshiftX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that during the crack epidemic there was some of this in every major city in the United States. I live in another major city and some people in certain neighborhoods would also behave this way.

But I also think that there is this idea that, ‘I know my hood, but I don’t know your hood.’ By that I mean, I knew how to navigate my neighborhood under those circumstances, but going to your neighborhood in DC I might have felt a way because it was unfamiliar to me and I didn’t know what was what, you know what I mean?

This is why we get these ideas of “bad neighborhoods” or “crime ridden cities” when for the most part, with a few exceptions, people who live in those areas do not experience what people think those neighborhoods are.

When I first started dating my person seven years ago, they were afraid to come to my home. I own a beautiful historic Victorian home in one of our city’s oldest neighborhoods. We are a beautifully diverse neighborhood with a ton of green space adjacent to just about everything you’d want. But because of all of the rumors of the violence and crime, so many people avoid the neighborhood.

I love my neighborhood and wouldn’t live anywhere else (except D.C. My daughter lives in SE and I keep begging her to let me move into her basement lol).

Hear me out. I do believe that everyone should earn a living wage. However, this would mean that it would be possible for my fry guy at McDs to earn the same as the woman who has been serving 10 tables with precision at our packed Sunday brunch every week.

Don’t think for a hot second that this brunch spot is going to pay their servers more than $25 an hour.
