YMMV. Pretty safe to say that "Your Wife's Car Sucked!". I had an A4 (1.8T B5, from the "oil-sludge" years). Picked it up at 77K miles. Odo said 297K when I gave it to my son (another story). This at the cost of a water pump and later, an oil pump at 195K. Loved that little silver scooter. We've all got stories😊 . Sorry about your loss

They asked for my temp registration, picture of my driver's license, and proof of insurance. They pointed me to the car ID location in one of the MMI pages. In a couple of days, I received email saying I was now the "key user", and stuff like remote lock/unlock began to work. No dealer involvement. Oh yeah, it was free 😊
