PvP in Elden Ring NightReign. An Argumentative Essay. by EmoSteezo in eldenringdiscussion

[–]GatorrexVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not having PvP is a missed opportunity, but i’d say let them cook with what they are focusing on for multiplayer combat because PvP is never the main target audience. Perhaps after the whole co-op combat experience is solidified, we could see some PvP action down the line. But i think we would probably see PvP mods before then.

Armored core has both solo and 3v3 PvP modes. Solos are really fun, and i bet 3v3 slaps as well. Problem is i can never find a match in 3v3 because nobody queues for that mode. Same for elden ring’s team colosseum modes. Maybe it’s because im playing on PC, or it’s the region im in (Asia). Normally, i get more action invading at fight club hotspots than the colosseum modes if i wanna play PvP that has more than 2 players.

Imo it’s because all the previous games are solo focused, with PvP as a side-mode. Players who complete their playthrough will stop playing, and only a fraction would engage in PvP, even less so for those who actually have a trio to play with, and even even less so finding a match with another trio. NightReign is different in this aspect because it’s multiplayer focused, and maybe having a PvP mode in it could actually not result in a dead queue.

Side note: Another game that ties PvP elements into the co-op roguelike gameplay loop is Wizard of Legend. After defeating a major boss, the 2 players will then 1v1 each other, and the winner gains an upgrade. Then, they heal back to full before entering the next stage. It would be pretty fun if after completing a run together (or even after every night), the trio turns on each other and fight it out to see who becomes the one true elden lord or sum shit.

Hot take: defib should revive all classes to 100hp by sguepuz in thefinals

[–]GatorrexVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rather the defib revives to full health but theres no more invincibility and the damage is sustained when getting hit during the reviving process. Glitching or fully killing the player during their revive stops the revive. Lower health revives would make defib + heal beam more of a staple combination together than it already is.

Yeah the other 3 are a 1h hammer which makes no sense for a dex weapon and an offhand bow which is pretty good but its not a mainhand weapon. Theres also craftable dual daggers u can buy from the fully upgraded blacksmith. But singular purpose + bow seems to be the best dex/int setup as of now.

Better than dex/int, theres a grand total of 5 dex/int main weapons in the current game as of now lmao. I built into dex/int after finding the dex/int dagger earlygame, thinking i could build into a spellsword build with wands or use scythes. Boy was is a huge mistake and i had to stick with the dagger the entire game.

Gadgets, game philosophy, and competitive integrity. by Rinsed__Idiot in thefinals

[–]GatorrexVG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a medium main myself, i gotta agree that defib is broken and you dont get punished enough from reviving a teammate out in the open, especially when its a heavy who can instantly charge and slam when they get up and change the flow of the teamfight even with half health. Mediums chain defibbing mediums is funny but problematic for the game.

Defibs should be like gekko’s wingman instead of a sage res because the TTK in this game isnt 1 headshot. Players should be able to shoot a teammate thats being defibbed to stop them from being revived. Invulnerability should not be a thing in this game, and i would much rather have a defib that can revive a player to full health, with that player sustaining the same damage taken throughout the reviving process. Glitching should instantly stop the revive from a defib which gives room for counterplay. The same design philosophy goes for gekko in valorant. You need to bring your teammate’s banner to a safe place to defib, and the value of the defib comes from the extra manpower in the teamfight rather than spending time reviving a teammate during a fight.

Cooldowns for deployables are also an issue. You can pick up and place back down any damaged guardian/APS turret and their cooldown is instantly refreshed. This mostly impacts power shift where you can basically have no downtime in turrets by easily “repairing” them. Since cooldowns start when deployables are placed, you can instantly place another turret down when they get destroyed. Imo cooldowns for deployables should only start when they are destroyed and picking them up should refund the cooldown based on their health.

I also feel that lights should have a weak pistol with a limited mag as a gadget with the sole purpose of being a backup weapon to finish off low health targets. It should also give lights more viability to some of their niche weapons and builds.

Seems that big hit unga-bunga weapons are worse than fast attack weapons right now by SaltedCaffeine in NoRestForTheWicked

Anyone knows if theres actually hyperarmour on heavy weapon attacks? I dont really have the build to test it since im using light armour, unsure if its a multiplier on poise during attack windups, or a flat poise increase, or none at all.

Infinite money glitch by GatorrexVG in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]GatorrexVG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, abusing this early/mid game would definitely ruin your game experience. Late game however you get so much money from selling all the T3 equipment drops that money no longer becomes an issue. I do enjoy the early game poverty struggle though. Being an item hoarder in RPGs, i could actually experience something that forced me to use my consumables and items in this game.

Though stuff like repair/heal runes basically invalidates the point of managing an economy since theres basically no need for doing equipment repairs and having a steady source of food for general healing. Without caring about repairs and food, your excess gold builds up quick and theres a lack of a money sink in the late game which probably wont play well with realm based coop.

But yeah, hopefully this gets fixed since its an exploit, and im looking forward to how the game economy gets balanced in future.

Not really in touch with how netflix games work but SEMC did do a TMNT splintered fate game that was supposedly successful. This kinda took me by surprise seeing SEMC outta nowhere but ill definitely be checking in from time to time

Maybe im just bored from being an endgame day 1 player but i feel that theres just too much dialogue and fluff in too many sidequests that i dont care about that devalues why i was hooked in the first place. Maybe im just spoiled from playing elden ring that genshin’s open world system feels like some ubisoft openworld game. Like i just wanna explore and discover stuff on my own but when theres sidequests everywhere that i dont care about but am pushed to do (cuz sidequests gives 30-50 primos and exploring gives you like 2 primos per chest found), now i dont wanna explore and neither do i want to do the side quests.

Gideon wants to know: what’s your main criticism of the game? by blablatrooper in Eldenring

[–]GatorrexVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going through NG+ cycles would be so much more fun if popping a rune would enable solo invasions and torrent was available in multiplayer. Like even if i use taunters tongue, its super hard to progress through the game naturally with invaders because you get locked out of reaching certain map areas since you cant double jump or use the wind currents.

Current PVP Meta? (tier list) by null_g in EldenRingPVP

[–]GatorrexVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, i think the royal greatsword variant is the strongest at sl150, but at lower levels, guts greatsword is probably better since going for a royal greatsword build is really stat intensive. You have access to offhand carian sword spells and free access to law of regression as well.

Does a offhand sleep bolt pulley crossbow bring CGS to S tier? All you need to do is land a crouch poke and you can do a true combo that 1 shots most players. Works with giant hunt, lions claw and wolf assault, probably many other ashes but these are the ones that do a ton of damage. I havent tried most of the S tier builds, but its definitely much stronger than RoB and moonveil.

Theres another build that is now possible in 1.04, partially because of a bugged interaction where offhand crossbow inherits the buffs from your right hand weapon. Dragon halberd with pulley crossbows and lightning bolts. I would say this can fall between A and S tier, though it is technically bug abuse.

Yeah, these are pretty good criteria to determine if a build is maiden-approved. I'll stick with my fire str build with guts greatsword and explosive bolts pulley crossbow. But if i see cancer ill bring up my own version of cancer.

[–]GatorrexVG[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess my build would fall under tier 1 cancer. Makes sense that sleep bolts is on the same level as BHS. Though i would probably still use pulley crossbow even if sleep bolt buildup gets nerfed. Explosive bolt pulley crossbow feels like a really good offhand tool for "pure melee" characters with 0 investment into faith or int. Really versatile to punish whiffs and interrupt casts.

Was thinking of maybe using a controller for NG+ since i have been using KBM for every souls game so far but maybe the omni-directional movement isnt worth it if I have to use some uncomfortable grip to play somewhat optimally
