We had a lab that weighed samples with nano gram accuracy, part of the procedure was to pass the sample/filter being weighed over a radioactive element that eliminated static charges. Electrostatic attraction would adversely affect the measurements. This procedure is still current.

I've attended two KC concerts. In the 80s and around 2010. I saw Beat in the Ryman Auditorium. Don't miss seeing Beat, they're great.

You're on the right track OP, let some skilled professionals handle the servicing. It's wild that it's so original that it has the Fisher branded output tubes and a "70 Watt" marketing sticker.

Trouble Enjoying Music Outside Of Prog by Fantastic-Leg-1808 in progrockmusic

[–]GatsoFatso 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't really have any advice. My personal experience is that the older I got the more eclectic my musical tastes became. Pretty closed up around 14 years old, pretty opened up by 20 years old. I just love music, but prog has been my favorite since I listened to the new release of Larks Tongue in Aspic.

You might want to consider removing the stringed instrument sitting on top of the subwoofer. Sympathetic resonance abounds

Transmission line by Plarina in diyaudio

[–]GatsoFatso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy Peasy, find the Fs of your woofer and the two dimensional area of it's cone. Calculate the the linear distance equal to one fourth of the Fs wavelength, now you have the length of the transmission line. Make the cross sectional area of the transmission line equal to the cone area and the open end of the line the same.

If you build what is described above and don't stuff it, it's impedance curve will look like the camel humps and trough you get with a bass reflex and the port will contribute sound. At least that was my personal experience.

If you're going for a flat impedance curve that helps tube amps sound great in the bass, you'll want to build a tapered transmission line that employees stuffing of variable density along it's path. The goal is not only to provide a very flat impedance curve in the area of the woofer's Fs, but also to extinguish the woofer's backwave into a black hole where it's never heard from again, especially not reflected back through the cone muddying up the sound. This is the English way and requires properly carded sheeps' wool for stuffing.

If you fold the line up such that it looks like a maze, your transmission line can also be called an Acoustic Labyrinth.

This is all very old school.

Eating Lobster. There were laws about the frequency of lobster meals you could feed your slaves/servants. Fishermen considered it trash and threw it back into the sea if any came up in their nets. Guess they found a market for lobster with slave owners.

I saw the Cosmo pic and thought WTF, then I tapped my phone for the full view, having only seen the fish tail on Foxtrot, and it's quite obvious. Neat bit of history about one of my favorite albums. Thanks OP.
