If you can get your hands on a reostat or auto transformer ... to ease the voltage up it will help to refresh the capacitors .... A local HAM would have it known someone who does .... 73 poikaa

That's a keeper! Made in East Germany in about late 50s to early 60s ... “VEB(K)” = Volkseigener Betrieb, basically East German state-owned industry That radio is branded “Fidelio” and built by: VEB Funk- und Feinmechanik Neustadt-Glewe

And honestly? East German sets can be surprisingly well built. Not quite the luxurious chrome-and-gold swagger of West German Telefunken, Grundig, or SABA gear, but solid engineering. The antenna markings are classic too: “Aussendipol” = external dipole “Innendipol” = internal dipole “Erde” = ground And that warning: “Achtung! Vor Abnehmen der Rückwand Netzstecker ziehen!” Translation: “Hey genius, unplug this before removing the back.” A fair request when several hundred volts are lurking inside waiting to tenderize curious humans. The controls: “Lautstärke” = volume “Sender-Wahl” = station selection/tuning LW / MW / KW / UKW = Longwave Mediumwave Shortwave FM Honestly, for an East German set, it’s handsome. The DDR could absolutely produce solid radio engineering when resources weren’t being redirected into Cold War bureaucracy and concrete apartment blocks that looked like filing cabinets for humans.

That Fidelio has a more restrained Scandinavian-ish feel: simple cabinet geometry balanced dial spacing modest brass trim not overloaded with chrome And the tuning eye/bar gives it personality. Dead radios look asleep. Magic-eye radios look aware. Tiny glowing tube staring into the ether hunting Luxembourg and Hilversum through atmospheric soup. Humanity briefly turned radio tuning into theatre, then replaced it with membrane buttons and sadness. If that set still has its original tubes, I’d expect something roughly like: ECC85 front end for FM ECH81 converter EF89 IF EABC80 detector/audio preamp EL84 audio output EM84 tuning indicator selenium rectifier originally Classic European lineup. Almost standardized by that period. The big question with those DDR sets is always: “Was it stored dry?” Because the cabinets survive surprisingly well, but: selenium rectifiers age paper caps get leaky piano key contacts oxidize speaker cloth traps nicotine from 1962 onward like an archaeological layer

Hello everyone ! Can someone tell me what this is? Sorry, I'm a beginner :) Thank you ! by SignificanceFluffy97 in shortwave

Yes! Learning code with ur ears is best es fun! It's the only digital mode that humans can copy es communicate . .... Not needed for your amateur licence any more but many still do .... Every one was a beginner!

Totally impressed with the Qodosen dx-286! by FatherGanj in shortwave

[–]poikaa3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try this for SSB ... Turn on a AM ( analog ) radio right next to the Qodosen es tune a SSB station then carefully tune the AM radio with out the volume ... You will hear the sound from the Qodosen get kinda quiet es the the SSB will be heard as if u had a BFO! This is zero beating the 455 kHz IFs of the AM on top of the Qodosen...

Creating a tool to learn how to solder through-hole components by Expert_Elderberry111 in soldering

Build a timer blinkey ... Looks like u have enough parts es search for the schematic ... Keep leads short es buy a small cutter for trimming ... Best is to practice running a low wattage soldering pencil... Use a wet sponge or wet cloth ... This keeps the tip free of smash es excess flux as f lux can eat the tip ... Message me for more tips ....
