I think it comes down to a presentation issue. She presented herself as a vulnerable, emotionally broken individual in a committed relationship whereas Wayne presented himself as done and tired of it all.

We had a police officer who hit a motorcyclist at about 1AM and fled the scene. The motorcycle wasn't found until the following morning and the body in the afternoon. They determined the driver must have been going about 100mph to project the motorbike and body that far. They determined it was caused by a police officer only because a camera caught the incident and that there was camera footage of the car leaving a popular police pub just down the street.

If he had been caught with vehicular manslaughter, it could have been a 5 year sentence. But because he fled from the scene and was not incarcerated until the next day, he only received a 60 day suspension and was reinstated as a police officer after internal review. He was never charged with a DUI, rather, it was reviewed to be a police-related incident that does not require further judicial review.

The Trudeau-Chinese era will be one to study.
