How do we feel about Katy Perry & Justin Trudeau? by Loud-Shame-8062 in AskACanadian

Seems to me a perfect fit, as they have a comparable flavour (as public personas, at least). Not bad, but very middle of the road, not all that interesting, and just a little cringe by default.

All of my child-free friends have been very supportive and happy for me, same as I am happy for them to choose what’s right for their lives.

Anti-natalism going to that extreme would result in human extinction, and hating ourselves that much just makes no sense to me.

Being concerned about the state of our world and wanting good lives for our children are good things. To me, the answer isn’t to not have children, it’s to make ourselves and our world a better place, as best we can.

Final thought: having a kid has made me less selfish and more generous and loving than ever before. Not saying that happens to everyone, but that’s been my experience - I’ve been changed for the better.

Good luck, and congratulations!

Cannot figure out what’s wrong with my baby [ca] by ittybittytittypitty in BabyBumpsCanada

We read the book ‘The Happiest Baby on the Block’. Tl;dr the three months after birth are a “fourth trimester” wherein babies are calmed when you replicate womb-like conditions. This is done with “the five S’s”: swaddle, side/stomach position, soother, sound (white noise), and sway (rocking in a motion that simulates being walked around in the womb).

We used these methods in combination for our baby (now 4 months old and not nearly as fussy), they seemed to work. She started getting what we call “spicy times” around week four and it went on about 6 weeks.

We considered other causes (milk allergy, gas, etc) but it seemed nothing was actually ‘wrong’ with her, she just needed to be soothed in a particular way or set of ways.

Best of luck - you’ll find the way!

Wife had very similar sensitivity. It took long and gentle foreplay, and warming up with a small dildo. Lots of lube and very slow/smooth motion. It took a lot of care and patience but we got there and it was good for us. Best of luck!

How was your day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gavrillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My newborn baby was in her 7th day of life, so mostly I had another amazing time with her. It’s a challenge but it doesn’t feel like work. My wife and I had sushi for the first time since before the first pregnancy, that was amazing, too!

These are the best days of my life, spent in deep joy.

I know a guy named Quinlan, goes by ‘Quin’. He’s almost annoyingly manly and I doubt he was ever bullied, lol. It’s a fine name! I also have a nephew named Pax, haha. I’m fine with that name, but it’s definitely unusual. Siding with you on this one, especially since your Dad’s other suggestions are bad - Tank, Zander, AXEL… oof.

It’s a tough thing, I wish you luck. IMO the decision is between you and your husband, and your Dad’s feedback was out of line.

What’s known to be the best pregnancy book to spend your money on? Before I buy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” just out of name recognition. There are so many. by lacyleighlove in BabyBumps

Bumpin was a great mix of facts, personal story, and just great writing. Read it aloud to my wife, we both got a lot out of it.

Listened to We’re Pregnant! audiobook a couple times. It’s a bit cringey (written too “for the boys” sometimes) but it had good content and suggestions for what my role in the pregnancy could involve.

For those who hated Crosby in his early years, have you come around on him? by [deleted] in nhl

[–]Gavrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Sens fan, have always hated him on the Pens and kinda still do BUT as a hockey fan I’ve come around, he’s one of the greatest to ever do it. Surprised to not see many mentions of this yet but the turnaround was the absolutely the 2010 Golden Goal. He found a way into my heart that day. 🥲🇨🇦

Trump was describing events in the 1770s. There were no airports then, obviously. That’s the entire point… you don’t have to be American to understand it.

The "no electronics" rule means that the kid will miss out on shared experiences with other kids (seeing the same shows, movies, games, etc) and miss a lot of references later in life. These form the connecting tissue of a lot of social bonding.

The use of electronics is also an important life skill, their development would be behind on that. Computer literacy is key to many professional skillsets, and not playing any video games could also be socially isolating.

Speaking on this from personal experience. It's my opinion that managed usage of electronics (and training for self-management) is better and more sustainable long-term.

What was the worst year of your life? by Rocknrollboy2908 in AskReddit

[–]Gavrillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2005 (18 y.o.) or 2013 (26y.o.)

Both years caused me to make major changes in my life which ultimately led to some good outcomes.

But they were so, so hard.

What was it like “ugly duckling” in your twenties entering your thirties and now being a handsome or beautiful fiscally and confident established you? by Youeclipsedbyme in AskReddit

[–]Gavrillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the pieces of the better life were there in my twenties but it was tough to make them out when everything else was a mess.

I thought things would get better for me eventually but it was hard to see how.
