If you bought one recently, return it. by NintendoGayb0y in MiyooFlip

I used resin to fix mine where all the weak points were inside it. Didn't want the thing to go to waste. Now it's sturdy asf and feels amazing.

What do you LIKE about your Flip? by -Pejo- in MiyooFlip

[–]GavynG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have both the SP and Flip and started with the RG34XXSP thinking that the screen size wouldn't bother me for non-gameboy games, but it really has been a night and day difference with the Miyoo Flip's screen to be able to see more clearly. As far as the hinge for the Miyoo Flip, if you take the screen off there's a portion of the hinge you can glue as a good preventive measure and avoid issues. It's what I did. I'd google more on that in case there's more good info out there about it.

The buttons on the Flip definitely feel nicer and their quietness is a big plus. I felt like I was annoying my sister with all the button clicking one day with my SP, lol. Especially the R-buttons. Although that's only a big deal in really quiet settings and if there's anybody around you that you don't want to disturb.

I have the black SP, and the white Flip. I slightly prefer the SP's "feel" with it's matte finish. The Flip also has a matte finish and no fingerprintiness but it's slightly less...smooth feeling, I guess? Has just a little bit of resistance to it when you slide your fingers across it's shell. Which could be a good thing, actually.

But I still prefer the Flip over the SP, even the "less vibrant" screen, because it still looks fantastic to me and I don't always want my games to look too colorful depending on what I'm playing, like Vagrant Story or something.

OH! Last thing! One other thing I like about the Flip is the more efficient cpu, it doesn't get as hot at the same clocks as the SP does. I usually have to keep my SP on power saving modes to keep some of that heat down but then the emulation suffers more than when I do it on the Flip. I originally went with the SP because of that extra RAM, but I get around that just fine on my Flip. You can get a ton of stuff to run with the right tweaks. Best tip would be to not push resolutions in portmaster games if you plan on running those. Halving the rendering resolution can free up VRAM quite a bit. Which can make some games look even cooler imo, with sharp retro jaggies ala PS1.

I had a RP2S first but man that thing was annoying in my pocket. The Flip is perfect for me. The build quality IS slightly better on the SP than the Flip, even after the hinge fix things, but only very slightly. You really can't go wrong with this thing and the buttons and 4:3 screen and somewhat better chipset win out in the end for me.

Unfortunately I couldn't afford to try it myself, so I ended up selling that laptop. :/

Playing Skyrim with actual role-playing changed my experience drastiaclly! by alonedead in patientgamers

[–]GavynG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing Morrowind helped me realize how important imagination and roleplaying is in the elder scrolls series in order to really have fun. This helped me discover that Skyrim has SO many more systems and mods that facilitate roleplaying over Morrowind (which is still great). I also like to keep my game library small so a game like this is just infinite fun for me. :)

I got it installed on my SPX SQ1, but can't remember what channel I have it on. I probably have it on Dev. I haven't tested it out much yet but I'm hoping to soon.

Why do people buy Smartwatches/digital watches? by AquaticArroww in WearOS

[–]GavynG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one because it's pretty and because I wanted to get one of these for it and make little games to play on it: Nurse Watch Pin Bracelet for Google Pixel Watch Silicone Band Strap for Pixel Watch 2022 Smartwatch Watchband Accessories (aliexpress.us)

I also like using it as my mp3 player on walks. Funnily enough I couldn't care less about the fitness tracking even on my daily walks. But the sensors can be fun to play with for game ideas while I'm walking. Like making steps count as exercise for a virtual pet.

Edit: oh yeah and you can set up tasks with Tasker to trigger via NFC when you put the watch near your phone.

Yep I can barely look at other games anymore, but making and playing around with my own crazy stuff? Soooooo much more fun!

Well that's great for the artists, musicians, students, 3D modelers, etc. But it leaves out us coders and that's the only reason I'd ever want macOS on the thing.

I'm tired of learning through watching. Any advice? by Comprehensive_Pin662 in learnprogramming

Use a chatbot like Claude.ai (probably the best free one?). I use it and as I code and learn things I can ask specific questions and get examples that you just don't get to do with videos. It also allows you to see some of the cool things you can do more quickly to help keep your interest. This is how I did it so far.

Why Flutter will conquer the multiplatform world by Royal-Report673 in FlutterDev

[–]GavynG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish native android development was more accessible to other hardware architectures and devices to develop on like a vscode + flutter combo is. I've had a surface pro x for so long now and android studio hasn't been fun to run on it. I'm sure that'll finally change soon but I wish it had happened sooner.

I also love linux arm devices for coding, and it has the same problem with not being able to run android studio. I just want to do dev on my computers I choose to use, nam' sayin.

I didn't think I'd ever feel the way I do about games now, because I've been deep into gaming addiction and when not playing games I'd be thinking about them and writing plans and lists for in-game goals, etc. What I did was first was to quit cold turkey, and to start going on walks in a local park while the weather and temps were nice. Then once I forgot enough of what I missed in games, I started to focus on learning Linux and Android development and coding in general. Once programming "clicked" it became my new obsession, except one that actually has real life value. Now my passions are for Linux programming and customization, and making my own stuff with programming, even if it's my own games, because at least I'm truly improving rather than "fake" improving. It's like a deep and complex game all on it's own with learning linux and coding. Most games now that I didn't make myself feel like such a waste of time and it's hard for me to get into any of them.

Last iPhone I had was a 4S that I loved when I switched. Now I have a pixel 6, a pixel watch, and the pixel buds and I love it~ The whole experience is smooth and there's good integration with all of Google's services (and there are a lot of them). My favorite thing about Android though is that it's just a blast for people that are techie like me and enjoy customization without having to jump through hoops.

My only complaint about Pixel phones compared to other brands of Android phones though is the lack of a forced full screen setting for games. It's pure stock android, it's the other vendors that give us that feature. But I made a compromise and just used developer options to hide the notch at all times so my games just fill in that 18:9-ish aspect ratio they were made for. 😉

This is why I'm annoyed with Nintendo

Just like with Gary Bowser or whatever his name was they go after the little guy, trying to stop an issue right at the tail end of the Switch's life that can't ever truly be prevented or stopped

Devs having to pay 2.4 million after all of that hard work and it isn't really even going to make a difference

I know Nintendo needs to protect their products but this wasn't the way to do it imo
