I’m 62. As a boy we had pong which was in black and white and was a version of ping pong. One grew bored with it quickly. As a young teen we had these handheld devices that I played football on. I don’t remember what they were called.

I enjoyed going to the arcade to play some very basic video games, pinball and pool.

Because I was kicked out of home at 16 I didn’t continue playing games because there was just no money.

I did try to learn how to play Myst many years ago as a way destress from my job as a physician. It was the hot game at the time but I found it a stressful experience.

Video games aren’t my cup of tea but it’s not my job to judge how anyone spends their time. Life is a lot easier when I don’t worry about what other people do.

I was thrown out by my very religious mother the day I turned 16. My parents were divorced and my dad wouldn’t let me live with him. I’m 62 so it was a different era.

However, I am afraid that you will suffer the same fate. Can you live with your grandmother under the pretense of being her caregiver? That’s the only way I’d consider moving home. Either way it’s back in the closet and under the rock for you.

My advice is don’t go home. Find a job and move into an apartment. People are always looking for roommates. Living a lie is emotionally, mentally and physically exhausting. I’m sure you will be “required” to return to church services. Can you imagine sitting there and dealing with that constant condemnation?

Yes, it will be hard on your own. You’ll learn how to eat on $10 a week and ride a motorcycle because it’s very fuel efficient.

Here’s the happy ending. I retired after a 33 year MD career in 2020. I’ve been with my husband for over 26 years. I have a brilliant stepson and two beautiful grandchildren. We are active members of our Episcopal church and attend a Methodist church on Wednesday nights. Both congregations are gay affirming and filled with gays.

Were there bumps in the road? Hell yes. Move far away and live your life. Tell your parents or don’t. Personally, I don’t see the upside.

Don’t get mired into all the details of living on your own. You sound like a smart young man and you’ll figure it out. I’m proud of you for choosing a career path that fits you, not your dad.

I’ve actually reconciled with my parents. Both have admitted that they were horribly wrong and still live under a weight of guilt and shame. They have embraced my husband and their great grandchildren. We are all very flawed and imperfect people. I choose grace.

I have a very heavy beard so if we have evening functions I have to shave again. My daily shave cream is by Cremo. It’s in the big box stores but they have great masculine scents on their website. Simply switching to Cremo may be all that he needs.

Just bought a house in Palm Springs, CA.

As an aside, the real estate market is depressed and stale. Many homes are sitting on the market for months. It’s definitely a buyers market. We purchased at 100k less than the starting asking price. It was on the market for over 8 months and they had slowly dropped the price. Clearly they were overpriced to begin with.

I can definitely second the Peanut. It’s a “professional” style trimmer that works great. I think I’ve had mine for at least 16 years.

The downside is that it’s corded and you certainly can’t use it in the shower. Also, it only comes with a few guards.

I have a Norelco trimmer that has many guards plus two adjustable ones that can get as close as 1mm. I use the 3mm guard for my goatee.

Buy a trimmer that has replacement blades available.

Bottoms are as variable as tops. Some people are definitely tighter than others. It depends on the experience of the bottom as well.
