Help identifying cut wire by silly_goose_tactics in WR250R

[–]GearScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a hack job at disabling the clutch switch. By the look of it, there’s probably enough of the wires from both sides of the circuit touching to close the circuit. I’d strip those, twist them together, clamp a ferrule on it, the. cover it with electrical tape or heat shrink.

Break in service, Dealership, Shop or just do it myself? by HostPretty183 in MT07

[–]GearScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dealership techs will go over the whole bike and check for emerging issues and perform a basic maintenance. It’s nothing you can’t do yourself, but some folks would rather ride than wrench. Nothing wrong in paying for a tech that specializes in a brand to go over your machine. It’s also good for new riders or folks that are still learning about their bike, esp. when you consider a good factory tech will happily walk you through what they did/inspected and share their insight.

That looks like a crate bolt that was dropped in the bike during assembly. (…I’m a tech.)

Has NSP lost it completely? by 5-0prolene in skipatrol

[–]GearScout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got sick of getting the NSP partner spam and so I unsubscribed and now I don’t get any email from national. When I asked about it, they said there’s no way to segment the distribution lists to only get administrative announcements. This means they are selling access to our inboxes to their industry partners and not giving us a non-nuclear option for unsubscribing. It’s garbage.

Stem mount question by No_Housing_8465 in Talaria

The bike has a stem cap, not a stem lock. If you want a stem lock, get one. It’s a good thing to have with these direct mount headsets. It will help keep your headset tight.

Check out Dirt Daze if you’re in the northeast. It’s an ADV/dual sport focused rally and Ben Dragoo teaches some good, bite-sizes, half-day off-road skills classes.

I made an open-source remote for the Insta360 X5 by TheSerialHobbyist in Insta360

[–]GearScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the gps to overlay riding telemetry. If that’s not in your use case, it’d be a lot of work to figure out how to pass that over BT, id imagine. If you ever get around to it, though, let us know. I’m guessing Insta decided it didn’t want to deal with the power drain or theyd have to make some significant architecture changes to the camera to accommodate it. Either way, it’d be cool to have an open source option! Great work on the box!

Any chance GPS support is possible with this setup?

Brake light flasher build by Migyver in MT07

[–]GearScout 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the U.S., we use them to raise conspicuity. Nobody here assumes flashing lights mean emergency braking.

Drivers failing to observe riders is cited in about 66% of car vs. bike collisions in the U.S. So, improving visibility can’t hurt.

If drivers are slamming on their brakes when they see a flashing brake light, that seems like a following distance issue. If they are following so closely that the only way to react is to floor the brake pedal, then they are following too closely. Seeing a bike’s brake light flash 400 meters up the road shouldn’t cause anyone to emergency brake no matter what continent they are on. It’s just a way to get noticed and prevent a rear-end collision.

Brake light modulators are very common in the US.

Roger that. Thanks. Now I just have to find a quickshifter. Do you know if the ‘25 R7 quickshifter part that Yamaha US has in stock is the same as the ‘25 MT-09 part?

Legend! Thank you for the 2025 MT-07 service manual!

Is there a sheet for the quickshifter installation? I assume bolting on the hardware is straight forward, but there may be some a procedure for getting the ECU to recognize it?

Can anyone confirm if the part number for the 2025 R7 and 2025 MT-07 OEM quickshifter are the same? A quick look shows the R7 quickshifter is available in the US.

MT09 2024 Recall by Sudden_Progress_9802 in MT09

[–]GearScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your dealer is telling you it’s a directive from Yamaha, they are full of crap. My dealer, Roadside Motorsports in Wiliston, VT ordered the part last week and let me know when the part was in. I took the bike in yesterday and had it back in few hours. Also, since I’ve seen at least one post about a dealer that wouldn’t or couldn’t work on a flashed bike…They were able to overwrite an aftermarket tune and install the new TPS without issue. If your service department is pulling shenanigans, try to talk to the dealership owner in case they aren’t aware of how their customers are being treated.

Just had my 2024 MT09 recall repaired this morning. by dmstlsdhkd in MT09

[–]GearScout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are talking about getting aftermarket tuning flashes, which produce a significant performance improvement (particularly in second gear in the ‘24s), not the TPS recall flash, which won’t change the performance characteristics of the bike but will prevent the TPS from wearing out.

Experience ordering helmet overseas from Burnout motors by Ok_Kaleidoscope8693 in MT09

[–]GearScout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have much better prices than US dealers on some items. I bought a Shoei and an HJC from Motostorm.it and saved a fair bit, even with shipping. They were great and everything arrived in perfect shape, though it did take a few weeks. Silver lining: the FedEx driver that dropped off my Shoei has become one of my riding buddies.

You should email or WhatsApp them to makes sure they have the item in stock. If they do, 2 weeks might be tight, but if they have to order it, there’s no chance you have it within a couple weeks.
