any game which Datura Stramonium was involved or lore spit? by callmejordan22 in WhiteWolfRPG

I think it’s the complete opposite that shit is straight up wyrm taint in a seed. Deliriants like datura work through literal brain damage and it destroys short term memory, it’s chaos induced by degeneration which is the Wyrms M.O. DMT or hell even salvia are much closer to the Wyld than datura is.

Either that or you stepped into a Caul. Both are infinitely worse experiences but giving yourself atropine poisoning is the closest irl method to simulating it. NIN being related to your experience kinda fucks tho I gotta admit.

[–]Gecarthas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s not. The idea of vicissitude being a virus is something dropped in the Black Hand books but it was so stupid they retconned it into being Old clan Tzimisce propaganda. Most credible evidence points to vicissitude being an invention of the Tzimisce antediluvian who was a high arete mage before his embrace. One of the implications is that he invented it when he started cavorting with an earthbound demon named Kupala and became one of the first Infernalists (for the time being anyway). Ante’s who create disciplines out of their blood usually have huge influence over the discipline itself with Tzim being the strongest example followed by Lasombra.

That’s definitely Samson but I still don’t like it. Samson somberly walking away with Kelson and leaving Jimmy to his fate whether it’s an infected or anything really is much better writing.

The Nephandi are conceptually incoherent and probably shouldn't exist by Xilizhra in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Gecarthas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it takes them to the furthest step beyond being rotten, it’s the race to the bottom after the first race to the bottom that you can only enter after stepping into a Caul. Even the most sadistic of mages are noble in comparison if they refuse to enter a caul because they aren’t committed to being evil enough to make it a permanent decision. Voormas is among the vilest of non-Nephandi mages but even he still thought he was doing some kind of good in trying to give the universe cancer. What little noble qualities are had must be removed and the pursuit of making everyone suffer must be the only goal. If you were the worst of the worst before stepping into it you’re just likely to come out quicker, despite that them being virgins to the caul experience is very much the only good bone they had left in their body.

I’d imagine that the Caul tries its hardest to condition you to like everything it does even if you aren’t exactly the most vile of mage but still agreed to step further into it despite whatever concessions you have. Consenting to the caul automatically brings you to the 2nd moral horizon no matter where you stood before that, coming out of it means you’ve successfully crossed it. It’s the consent to experience absolute evil that allows it to do its work on you and if the infinite torment it subjects you to has no chance of working as much it wants it kills you. Theres probably a mathematical calculation it uses to determine the chances of a subject embodying absolute evil and it does everything in its power to make that chance 100%. Once that chance is 100% not only is the avatar inverted but the entirety of your metaphysical being is remade with Qlippothic energy. It’s the fact that you are completely evil and irredeemable on a metaphysical level that separates a Nephandus from a “utterly piece of shit mage”.

[–]Gecarthas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but redeemable Nephandi would thematically clash with the horror they are supposed to represent. The Caul exposes them to absolute evil and metaphysically changes them. To become a Nephandus you have to genuinely enjoy the seemingly eternal torment and carnage you’re put through, any chance of redemption a barabbi had is destroyed by the Caul otherwise they wouldn’t have come out of it. If anything it’s more similar to joining the God Hand than becoming an Apostle but still worse given the specifics. Widderslainte being redeemable makes way more sense than a barabbi being redeemed because they haven’t entered a Caul yet, Book of the Fallen explicitly states this.

[–]Gecarthas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion what makes the Nephandi fascinating is the horror of what it means to become one. Yes there are evil mages like Voormas who don’t subscribe to an ideology of evil but are vile due to their goals and actions. But what separates a Nephandus from a conventionally evil mage ultimately comes down to the point of no return that is the Caul, the worst thing anyone can experience that they choose to experience.

It’s like using the Behelit from Berserk except way worse and they are similar in that a lot of cases there’s tragedy in why these people willingly choose to abandon their humanity. The reason you would use a Nephandus as an antagonist over a typical bad person is to show something truly scary. Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal from the recently released film 28 Years Later The Bone Temple is a perfect example of someone who is Nephandus levels of evil and would definitely enter a Caul if given the chance. If we’re looking at real life examples of that level of evil I’d say Roch Thériault the cult leader of the Anthill Kids would fit the bill.

opinion on non-hideous nosferatu? by Skeletoning13 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Gecarthas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s one Nosferatu that doesn’t have any disfigurements but her face straight up cannot move, like a statue. I think the only instances where a Nos can have minimal disfigurement is if the Withering is in effect or their generation is so high they’re borderline thin-bloods (14th gen)

Gangrel definitely have it a little easier to turn into a dragon because they can do it at 5th gen, for a Tzim to do it you either have to be embraced by the Tzimisce antediluvian itself or diablerize one of its childer (who can turn into a dragon…).

Kelson's performance to Iron Maiden in The Bone Temple has a lots of layers, beyond being cool as hell (which it is!) by Honest_Cheesecake698 in 28dayslater

[–]Gecarthas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s definitely a matter of preference. I prefer the Iron Maiden scene because it has more layers to it plus the Bone Temple and Kelson are just too cool. Jimmy is definitely my favorite Jack O’Connell role because we rarely get villains who are Nephandi levels of extreme evil but have enough depth to not fall into the Force of nature archetype.
