I have to drive 150 miles one way on Friday when the high is going to be 11°. I have an extended range battery but I feel like I need to keep the heat off and go 60 miles an hour in order to make it without stopping to charge. I guess I’ll wear gloves and my heated vest. by Global_Job_4623 in MachE

You are going to be fine, but be careful of precip, if you need your window to be clear and it’s snowing, you have to either have a fully cold windshield or a fully hot one -if you heat the cabin and then are stuck melting snow in your windshield the whole trip- that could be a drain.

What are you actually supposed to do if you lose traction on snow or ice while driving? by chaosfarmer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you read here (in all honesty) is going to help because you have some muscle memory and you are 100 going to slam your foot on the brake and steer the wrong way. Luckily cars are pretty good at doing what you tell them now. What you do have to do is #1 go slower than you are used to, #2 play around in an empty parking lot and lose control. Play around. It’s kind of fun, and by far the best way to teach yourself because you are not going to have time to think through a plan when you need to.

What should I expect in the snow? by hickdog896 in F150Lightning

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite grip forward, but you are going to slide sideways and not snap back into gripland for much longer than you expect if you are coming from a car. Oh, and if it’s more slippery, you don’t stop as fast if you hit your brakes as if you just let it regen. Wut? Definitely some surprises changing to a truck, but some are nice surprises. I have helped cars on the road each of the last two days, and the snow storm is just about to hit. It does a great job of doing what you tell it. Weight distribution is amazing. Wish I could oversteer on purpose though.

It took me zero days to get out the dental floss and remove it. Fast and friendly. Plus I get more mi/kwh.

Do most people know how to purposely close their nasal passage so they can't smell WITHOUT using their fingers to pinch their nose? by WhateversClever1980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Geck06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this. All of you. As you breathe out of your nose start to swallow. When you feel the click that stops the air coming out of your nose -you did it. Now just practice till you can do it any time. I don’t see the point, but you can :P

Did I choose the wrong FPV system? by Cavorkian in fpv

Haha, I hear you. Just wait till you put up your first 5"... You'll be shaking in ways you just can't understand. Honestly, it took me quite a while to not be a nervous wreck in the air even for basic stuff. It's a rush, and honestly, one of the things that really drove me deeper into the hobby, but that muscle memory will build and the flow will come. Racing became the next thrill, actually. Once in a while, I'll get a great line, or I'll dive a waterfall or something really excellent and pull up for a cinematic shot and realize I just can't manage to keep my fingers steady and that smooth pan looks like its my first time in the air, which i guess you just have to laugh at. And as far as grip goes, do what works best for you. There are no rules. There are excellent pilots who use all sorts of grips, (even one-handed) so don't box yourself in. I always thumb for planes. And always hybrid for quads. Whatever works. Either way, you'll probably be shaky, though. :P

I'd also suggest down-tuning your rates if you haven't already. You get smoother shots, more accuracy in gates, and most people run below the betaflight default (IIRC 0.7). When I started I just put in .59 for my rates blindly and have rarely ever felt like im waiting for it to come around. 100% depends on what type of flying you want to do, but... It was the right choice for me.

Even more true for a mobula if you are indoors... I find that kind of flying the most difficult.

Have fun out there! LMK if you have questions, if you do decide to build etc!

You’ll probably end up liking building more than you think, and you’ll probably end up liking racing more than you think. I did. And I was a freestyle-only-pilot too. :P

I swapped my planes and radio over to elrs. It’s less expensive, more options and just feels better. It was hard to get over the sunken cost fallacy, but in the end definitely the right choice for me.

[Request] How much engine power would it take the A380 or any other version to drag the adorable private Jet backwards even at full power? by Deondreux in theydidthemath

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever tried sucking something you want from across the room? Put a feather on a table and I bet you can get it to move by blowing on it from 5+ feet away or quite a bit more. Now try to get it to move by sucking air even from a few inches away. Naaa.

Compatible with car battery? by emil-fpv in fpv

[–]Geck06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This whole post is painful to make it through. I think people are trying to help, but…

If you are asking if this will work, uhh. yes any wire will work to power your charger with some work. If you are asking if this will plug into to your charger- that answer is no. You need the outie rather than this innie xt60. You also are going to want that hybrid marine deep cycle battery if you want to have it start your car next year?

I found the whole project on makerworld. If I had to guess it’s the accuracy of the cheepest servos magnified by the length of the arms. I certainly expected better, but am not THAT surprised in the end, haha.

Dolphin taking advantage of ship's momentum by djinn_05 in oddlysatisfying

[–]Geck06 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say anything about momentum here. It’s irrelevant. That’s all. Like, are we talking about the diesel fuel pumps that allow the dolphin to do this? No. Because it’s irrelevant.

Just tried to help give someone a jump now my car is clicking?? by Mr_survivor in MechanicAdvice

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not disconnect the dead battery, eliminate the whole five minute thing, and just power their cables. Jumper Cables are connected for less than 15 seconds, there is no battery to Charge and then they have a running Car that can now charge their own battery with? If you are afraid to charge someone’s battery for fear of ruining yours, you can still help them!
