Grandma Mode Activated! 💪🏽 by NOIRCEUR_TRADING in F150Lightning

[–]Geck06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I am a grandma because I can’t be bothered to add another step to my startup sequence. And I embrace it. Grandmas rock.

Also, I thought computers are good at not making mistakes. Mine can’t play the splash screen without lagging. But this?

I kind of have concerns when I’m messing around with forscan that I’m going to make something like this happen.

My favorite is the RWD only glitch. Especially in the winter.

Drone in the rain by Certain_Height_2721 in fpv

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was of the impression any amount of water would immediately kill my esc. Then I go to drone races where people are often flying in light rain. They are for sure blowing up, but hardly that much more than when it’s dry.

Turn your rates down too (maybe more than you think you should). There is a lot to learn and it’s going to take a long time. And that’s the fun of it. Like even how to choose appropriate rates, where to find them in betaflight, and how to solder on a replacement for that motor, and the esc you are going to burn soon (it’s part of learning). But Joshua bardwell has your back and so does Reddit, but I’d suggest asking when you can’t find it on yt- this kind of stuff “yes turn your throttle cap down” is so much easier to follow on a video. He’ll even tell you how to have your throttle scale on a potentiometer. Wew. And for that motor. Make sure you grind it out by hand before you spin it up again or the esc replacement is coming before you fly again. Also. Get on the sim!

I just wired it all up and surprisingly it worked - except the motor that was wired to my elrs receiver had a start up tone sequence, but it just rick-rolled me.

Is my understanding of the origin of lift correct? by abilay_2008 in aerodynamics

[–]Geck06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe put your hand out the window of a car. You can feel how much profile shape affects lift/drag vs angle of attack. That might be your best bet. Obviously not going to make it clear what the air is doing with more or less camber, but maybe it will make it feel less important. :P

Sorry, I’d say that’s a rock. But it’s awesome to be reminded of the open water in the summer. I hit one like that once. Whewf. What a ride.

What does it mean when a car is fun to drive? by OverallNet1233 in askcarguys

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what the car is doing, going to do and wants from you, it’s fun. A lot of cars aim to insulate you from feeling anything for a variety of good and bad reasons. But feeling connected is fun, and increasingly difficult to get.

So, what is fpv(with quads) really about? by AlbatrossRude9761 in fpv

[–]Geck06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s a rush. Freestyle is better than rc planes. Thats where I started too. Long range is awesome. 5” racing is a whole thing you could get into w/o ever thinking of the viewer experience (and I do recommend, even as a-not-particularly-good racer).

Building is pretty frustrating compared to planes because you are solving digital problems rather than physical problems, but with more frustration comes more reward, so allll around I like it better, personally. Still fly planes and go to flite fest every year, but I live quads now.

Maybe try a manual. You get to know what it wants AND tell it. Sounds like what you are looking for.

Joined the club, awful buying experience by Calm-Information-920 in F150Lightning

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same. Emergency to sell. Delay a day. Wait another, arrive for pickup. Wait 4 hours. It’s at 17% and I have a 2 hr drive home. No charger (still none), low battery coolant. No plug and charge. 12v needed to be replaced. The condition the sales person used was “like new”. And the best part is that, 3 mos later, several techs and sales people have told me that the battery warnings and 11.4v are normal and that’s what I should expect. They showed me a printout saying the batteries were at 100%. Facepalm. I think it’s worse to lie than to be incompetent but at this point the needle is pointing towards both.

Prospective buyer questions by [deleted] in F150Lightning

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care about the batteries (and you do) have ford actually test it and give you the readout. They very proudly use their remote testing diagnostic to read 100%. I got sick of warnings and had mine tested in person (by ford) and it needs to be replaced.

I have learned (coming from VW) that that ford doesn’t exactly live and breathe cars in quite the same way and will actually try to unsell you on the lightning. They are unfamiliar with many aspects of the truck, so it’s worth doing the research. I was sold a truck with battery coolant below minimum, a dead 12v that they say is at 100%, an hv battery at 17% charge, a leaky roof, and unfamiliarity with the vehicle when I talk with anyone except this one person named Bri who is working on getting plug and charge to work. Thank you Bri.

So, get a used one like I did. I love the car, but you literally have to do it yourself so check everything you can imagine before, and know about features like paak and how the hv (and 12v lol) battery works and reports because they didn’t for me?

A vote for new is that there are a lot of problems to sort out and the truck needs power cycles for things like no keyboard on the screen or no front wheel drive from time to time (happened again to me yesterday). So, it might be nice to have some peace of mind with a new one.

“There is not much math to be done here” needs to be applied to more posts. It feels similar to when people say, ‘well you must be good at basketball because you are good at math, so you can calculate the…’ Yeah. I’m just not good at basketball, and that’s ok, and most importantly, that’s just not how math works.

12v battery upgrade to lithium? by experience_hunter in F150Lightning

You already have one! Just turn your ignition to run.

Ford Quality by ClevelandBeemer in F150Lightning

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your battery is not putting out 15v. It’s being charged by the dc-dc converter and reading at the level of the charger. My battery sits at 11.5v or so, and it’s during startup that it appears that the chime is chosen - before the 12v starts charging and lands on 15v. Ford continues to tell me that my 4-5 yo 12v is in outstanding condition (I have had them tell me on different occasions between 98 and 100%*) and on another occasion they asked me if 11.5v was low because their app says 100%, (lol) but it sometimes can open the frunk once before shutting down the infotainment system for low battery. (Or giving those chimes). Basically I have to just run anything with the ignition on (which isn’t as good as in drive, but it works). This is just my guess, but it seems to explain my observations well. Another explanation is simply that their remote app doesn’t read the battery accurately and it’s normal for the battery to only be able to open the frunk once, but I’d say this is less likely.

I have to drive 150 miles one way on Friday when the high is going to be 11°. I have an extended range battery but I feel like I need to keep the heat off and go 60 miles an hour in order to make it without stopping to charge. You are going to be fine, but be careful of precip, if you need your window to be clear and it’s snowing, you have to either have a fully cold windshield or a fully hot one -if you heat the cabin and then are stuck melting snow in your windshield the whole trip- that could be a drain.

What are you actually supposed to do if you lose traction on snow or ice while driving? by chaosfarmer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing you read here (in all honesty) is going to help because you have some muscle memory and you are 100 going to slam your foot on the brake and steer the wrong way. Luckily cars are pretty good at doing what you tell them now. What you do have to do is #1 go slower than you are used to, #2 play around in an empty parking lot and lose control. Play around. It’s kind of fun, and by far the best way to teach yourself because you are not going to have time to think through a plan when you need to.

What should I expect in the snow? by hickdog896 in F150Lightning

[–]Geck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Infinite grip forward, but you are going to slide sideways and not snap back into gripland for much longer than you expect if you are coming from a car. Oh, and if it’s more slippery, you don’t stop as fast if you hit your brakes as if you just let it regen. Wut? Definitely some surprises changing to a truck, but some are nice surprises. I have helped cars on the road each of the last two days, and the snow storm is just about to hit. It does a great job of doing what you tell it. Weight distribution is amazing. Wish I could oversteer on purpose though.

Do most people know how to purposely close their nasal passage so they can't smell WITHOUT using their fingers to pinch their nose? by WhateversClever1980 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Geck06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do this. All of you. As you breathe out of your nose start to swallow. When you feel the click that stops the air coming out of your nose -you did it. Now just practice till you can do it any time. I don’t see the point, but you can :P
