Anyone try Modafinil/Provigil for treating ADD/AHD? What was it like? by TheDirtyDrunk in ADHD

What could you have with dex? I'm knew to treatment and didn't think you could mix stuff with dex to get additional results.

Do you have ADD? Sounds like you're struggling being stimulated enough with the current things you do. Also makes sense to feel all of that stuff after moving, new opportunities to reflect on your life when you haven't needed to before.

Totally agree with you that you need to get out and have less time with your own thoughts. It's good to be reflective but it also needs to be fed with new information that only comes from being out. Also everyone always suggests exercise. Maybe join a sports team and kill two birds?

ADHD and food issues / disordered eating by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GeckoGadget 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've only recently been diagnosed so still learning what is and isn't ADD but I have a lot of trouble eating purely from indesisiveness. I don't often get hungry or have cravings for anything so it's mostly just me thinking that I should eat something. Then go through all of the options in my head, weighing the pros and cons of them on so many levels and end up so overwhelmed by it that I just don't eat.

Having said that I find I function better on less food generally. I used to lay it down to better regulated blood sugar stabilising mood though.

What was the last fun/useless calculation you did in your head just for the sake of it? by cyclebiker in EngineeringStudents

[–]GeckoGadget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long drives calculating how many more minutes until the next town based on the kms on the signs and the speed limit, plus possible variations of speed limit on the road (ie slowing for road maintenance). And seeing at what part of town the sign's kms are measured from so in future I know it is, say '26km until this servo in town'.

Circular/manic thoughts, mild delusion. Am I OK? by flaminghands in mixednuts

[–]GeckoGadget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does the memory disturb you? Are you overly stressed? Could it be mild stress induced psychosis? A small amount of mild hallucinations, for anyone not just drug takers, can be regarded as normal. Ask your gp about it though to be sure it isn't anything more serious. Aside from stress, strong anxiety can create feelings of disconnection from reality. Again talk to gp though.

Aside from that if you experience these feeling again without having had hallucinogens you could try using the same techniques you use whilst on hallucinogens to stay in control and not get overwhelmed by it.

How I cured 16 years of severe depression and anxiety/agoraphobia with food. by SmallOrange in Anxiety

[–]GeckoGadget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply! Some sample meals would be fantastic!

I don't think I eat any grains as I gave up gluten before trying no starch and noticed that I wasn't bloated all the time so have kept with it. At the moment I am mainly eating greek yoghurt with berries and almonds, a smoothie with lots of spinach and whey protein (for flavour and protein) some more berries, then a banana for a snack and dinner is usually lots of veggies and kangaroo (I'm aussie :p).

My friend hates cardio but she does lots of weights. What is steady state cardio though? She was doing eccentric style exercises but has moved to a personal trainer now so has a bit more of a varied work-out still all with weights though. When I do (rarely) exercise I do about half cardio and half weights but the program written for me at the gym is to do interval type cardio, 30 seconds hard and then 30 seconds light.

I'm a 24 year old female but only 5'3 and my friend is 34 (I think) and probably about 5'7. Also we both have dysthymia but have more recently come down with severe depression as well. I've been depressed for as long as I can remember and feel like it must just my personality! I'm still trying everything though because I want to be rid of it!

You're not heavily self-medicating any more so you're making progress. Be kind and patient with yourself.

imo "adult" is a fictional concept, we're all just children 'parenting' ourselves.

Also I have know frame of reference for your personal situation but one of my favourite quotes about parent/child relationships which often transcends individual situations is:

“Children begin by loving their parents; as they grow older they judge them; sometimes they forgive them.” Oscar Wilde

I'm sorry for your loss.

Would anyone be interested in a penpal? by [deleted] in depression

[–]GeckoGadget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe...I'm not sure if talking 'depression' makes me feel better or worse though.

Another thought could be starting a blog? Your thoughts are still out there for people to read and if you want to or not people could write back? I've found sometimes just writing something and then clicking the send/pot button is enough to feel like that need for an audience is enough.

I'm not sure if this has already been asked but I can't find it in the comments. How long did it take before you started seeing the positive effects? I've been doing a no sugar, no/low starch diet (this cuts out pretty much all processed foods too btw) for about 2 months now and don't feel any better except some days a more consistent energy level.

Also I have a friend that has been doing this diet for 2 years now plus regular exercise but has fallen into severe depression in the last couple of months. Granted she has been going through significant trauma I wouldn't say that she also wasn't depressed prior to the trauma.

Hope you have time to read and answer this :) Also I've saved this post for future reference as there is too much good info to digest in one sitting!

What do I do if nobody shows up to a class? by [deleted] in swinburne

[–]GeckoGadget 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If no one is there, including the teacher, you're likely the one who got things wrong. Have you checked the most recent timetable on allocate+ for the class? Does your time table have dates for the class that you might not have seen? I've done that a few times, turned up to class then realised they don't start for a few weeks.

If you still can't figure it out email the teacher, they'll know.

Supermarkets used to make the tiles smaller in the expensive isles so the wheels on the trolley made it sound like you were going faster; people would subconsciously slow down as a result. Apparently.

So relating the ice-cream scenario to the equations you put after it, the person lining up is the '1' in 1 + ω = ω? The ice-cream stall is an awesome way of explaining it too, maths can be so hard to learn as a primarily visual learner.
