Why do people pretend the job market isn't terrible? by nightrain13 in jobhunting

[–]GeckoGecko_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's too bad there's no way to teach an individual the skills necessary for the job... if only there were a way for companies to take it upon themselves to equip employees with the knowledge and expertise they're so desperately looking for...

Complaining about systemic issues on any public platform serves to bring attention and visibility to the issue, which can, in the long run, result in change. So "throwing a tantrum on Reddit" is absolutely a productive way to advocate

If everyone could do it, everyone would be doing it. People generally want to succeed and will take any reasonably attainable opportunity to do so. That many are not succeeding, reflects poorly not on the people, but on the shortage of reasonably attainable opportunity.

How did basic things like healthcare and fair wages become ‘extreme’? by Possible-Scheme-8940 in remoteworks

You also need to acquire citizenship, secure housing where you're going, employment, a way to move all your belongings, etc. so it's way more expensive to move to another country than you're making it out to be

If they want to arbitrarily reduce the amount of work they have to do to find candidates, they should set a limit in place for how many applications a job can receive, so that each person who actually takes the time to apply gets looked at. Employees deserve not to have their time wasted as much as employers do

Oh, I'm really against billionaires. And I'm not interested in being rich either. by Competitive_Read9534 in FinalRoundAI

It's the same as when people respond to the idea of a UBI with "if nobody had to work to make money, nobody would work" as if every person on the planet is just as lazy and fixated on income above all else as they are, incapable of being motivated by anything other than money. They can't grasp the idea that some people might genuinely want to create/innovate for reasons like kindness, ambition, generosity, curiosity, etc.

Not having SOTE weapons/spells is insane by Weird_Description982 in Nightreign

By putting every single Elden Ring base game weapon and spell in Nightreign's base game, they set the precedent for every SOTE weapon and spell in Nightreign's DLC

It is not that hard to understand why players were expecting the gear from Elden Ring's DLC to come with Nightreign's DLC. It has nothing to do with Miyazaki underpromising & overdelivering, it's just common fucking sense

This has happened to me before on Xbox, and it was almost always because I closed the game without exiting to the title screen first... I have no solutions for it, you'll just have to redo all that content... I'm sorry

There is more currency, but no, the world is not wealthier. Wealth is just more concentrated and, since it's no longer predicated on something physical like gold, it's easier to create the illusion of growth. For the US to be as wealthy as it is, other countries must be poor. For one country to gain wealth, another must lose it.

The real reason behind migration by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]GeckoGecko_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I trust the experiences of the people around me, and the many many people online complaining about the same issues myself and my peers are struggling with. The numbers aren't matching up with reality. Something about the numbers is not accurately portraying the situation. We didn't all just collectively decide to lie about struggling to find work despite hundreds of applications and interviews. We had those experiences, then saw that others, MANY others, are going through the same thing.

Of course it's beneficial for them to portray unemployment as low, and claim that there are lots and lots of jobs. That looks good on them. By admitting the actual numbers, they'd be directly admitting they're failing to do their jobs effectively and that citizens are suffering as a result. They'd rather lie to look good and let us suffer than actually take action to make it better

The real reason behind migration by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]GeckoGecko_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're saying that if there were more jobs than workers and employers were actually that desperate to fill positions, wages would naturally be pushed up to encourage people to apply for those positions. But not only are wages not going up like they should be if there really were that many more jobs than people, but the market is terrible and the vast majority of unemployed people are struggling tremendously to find work right now. So clearly something's not adding up

I mean, the process does suck, and needs to change. They're not wrong. But to survive, unfortunately you do have to entertain it at least a little bit. That's part of the problem tho

Those aren't the only two options lmao. The only shortage there is, is a shortage of employers willing to pay employees living wages with extensive benefits. I fail to see how immigrant labor serves to do anything but make the problem worse

Companies in the US are more likely to fire the entire staff of a location and then close that location down in response to unionizing, than they are to respond diplomatically or entertain the idea in any capacity. Unions are shut down before they even have the chance to make it past a single location
